  1. I already knew Rios was a stud. But good god!
  2. QUOTE (Brian @ May 11, 2010 -> 09:10 PM) Shocked at what Boston is doing to Cleveland at Cleveland. I thought Cavs would at least make conference finals, but doesn't look like it. I predicted Orlando over Cavs again in conference finals. It's easy to forget that Boston is sporting basically the same core that won it all two years ago, and nearly made the conference finals last year despite not having their best player in the playoffs. The Celtics are built for the post-season. I'm not surprised. And with this pathetic scheduling that has teams getting 3-4 days off in-between games, it makes older teams like Boston even more dangerous.
  3. I was going for the Cavs only because I think they have the best shot at beating the Lakers. But f*** it. Lebron getting fist-f***ed for a second straight year trumps my Laker hate.
  4. I have no idea how Freddy made it through 7 innings of 2 ER ball. His stuff was mediocre at best and the Twins were hitting line drives all over the place (the change up that made Mauer look stupid in the 5th was nasty, though). But I'll take it. Kalapse said it earlier. Alex Rios is indeed a joy to watch and arguably the best all-around player we've had since Magglio. The guy wasn't dubbed a prototypical 5-tool player for no reason. Kudos to KW for having the balls to go out and get this guy.
  5. QUOTE (sircaffey @ May 11, 2010 -> 06:43 PM) I don't think you'll find many, if any, recently-turned 20 year olds that are refined Major League defenders. Elvis Andrus. Plus defender from day 1.
  6. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 11, 2010 -> 04:05 PM) I'm talking realistically and/or just for the future. Alex Gordon Kila Ka'aihue Pedro Beato Troy Patton Jeremy Hellickson/Jake McGee Steven Pearce Gregor Blanco (though I'm not that big of a fan as I used to be) What the heck are they going to do with this guy? He's made a mockery of AA/AAA the last year+. Then there's the kid they got in the Kazmir deal. That organization is so damn loaded.
  7. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 11, 2010 -> 04:03 PM) I don't think you'll get too much value for him even if he keeps producing like this when you consider his history of turning it on and off, along with him still have a huge contract. Rios isn't going anywhere. We've finally found an above average CF after years of bad.
  8. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 11, 2010 -> 03:49 PM) As annoying as it is for you to see negative posts from people like me, it's equally annoying to see you be negative about those posts. We don't need a Positivity Policeman in the forum. Leave it to the mods to call out people for stepping over the line. That's what you and others don't seem to get. I'm not saying you have to be Hawk or the 2006 version of jphat. And the mods shouldn't do anything. You're not breaking any rules or anything. You have the right to be as negative as you'd like. But this is a public message board. If I went on a "this team sucks, the season's over" rant every 5 minutes I'd expect somebody to call me out at some point.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2010 -> 03:44 PM) Everytime I think I want the Sox to lose to better the organization, I remember that no one has been held responsible in a long time for the struggles on the field (ie: Greg Walker). Also, as others have accurately stated, the more this team loses now, the more we will lose in attendance and the result will be loser payroll in upcoming seasons. I root more for guys like Kotsay and Vizquel to perform poorly (if we're going to lose, of course) in order to provide more chances for Nix, etc. As much as I might state that I don't mind if we lose, I know that every game we win, my optimism for the next game and a possible win streak rises. The only time I deem it "better" to lose is when you're hopelessly out of it and you can improve draft position. I was on that train in 2007.
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 11, 2010 -> 03:44 PM) First I'm considered a "fan" in quotation marks now a jackass. If only I could add as much positive value to the board as you. I went too far with the jackass comment. So I'll go ahead and take that back. But don't act like I'm not speaking some truth.
  11. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ May 11, 2010 -> 03:36 PM) Actually, I just found out that the 2001 Oakland A's were 8-18 and made the playoffs. The Yankees were 21-29 in 2007 and made the playoffs. Point is the season is far from over.
  12. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 11, 2010 -> 03:20 PM) Huh? It's not whining to point out the very obvious fact that there is a more than 95 percent chance that the Sox aren't going to the playoffs. If you want to focus on the less than 5 percent, that's your right. I'd love for you to miraculously end up right and the team end up in the playoffs because it'd make things a lot more interesting, but that's just not realistic. I don't think anybody is miserable and whiney over this team either, or at least I know I personally am living a fine, happy life without them being relevant. It's more fun when they are, and I'll still watch the games even though they suck, but don't hate on people for being realistic. Give me a motherf***ing break. The season has been "over" for at least 3 weeks according to some. Don't act like this s*** just started with this thread. How the f*** is losing to the Twins the next two nights going to benefit the organization? "Now were 10 games out instead of 8 games. Now the fun begins!"
  13. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 11, 2010 -> 03:17 PM) Unlike in other posts where you rip people when you know they're not online. Classy. What is up with this "I rip people when they're not online" crap? Am I supposed to check the user list to make certain whatever person I'm "ripping" is on to give them the chance to respond? lol. If telling it like it is, is ripping somebody then so be it. You, along with a host of others (who I don't have to name because they, and everybody else, know who they are), have made this board unbearable at times. I have no problem whatsoever with constructive criticism. Hell, I don't even have a problem with saying so and so sucks. But there's a way to go about it. fathom used to get on my god damned nerves. But even he can be critical without looking like a jackass.
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 11, 2010 -> 03:14 PM) Get over your high and mighty self. Didn't even mention specific names. Not that I had to. You're right at the top of the list. AND YOU KNOW IT! That's why you responded.
  15. Just wanted to say good work@shack. These perpetual whiners really need to go out and find more constructive things to do with their time. I wouldn't even bother with a professional sports team in any way shape, or form, if they reduced me to a miserable, whiney, "SEASON'S OVER" every 2.5 seconds joke of a "fan."
  16. QUOTE (jphat007 @ May 11, 2010 -> 01:41 PM) What are you going to improve though? Are you going to give up on Quinten, Beckham, Pierre, Ramirez and Teahen? KW isn't going to do that and show he failed. Not this early. Same goes with Floyd. The only way we get better the rest of this year, or for the next two or 3 years, is if those players play at a significantly higher level than they have really in the past two years. There isn't much KW can do to improve the mess of a roster he created except for pray. I don't think he is going to be able to find replacements for all of the above. There's so many holes in this post I don't know where to start.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 11, 2010 -> 11:45 AM) That's the great part of being a fan. You control the message to the team. The message is already clear. Win the World Series and they'll show up. The Sox have finished in the top 10 in attendance exactly ONCE since 2001. Guess what year that was? Every other year besides that they were 15th or lower. So if crybaby/bandwagon Sox fans want to boycott the team now that won't be sending much of a "message."
  18. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 11, 2010 -> 10:26 AM) Ha, sorry I used the length of Williams' tenure as a GM to show how 5 other AL teams have been to the playoffs more often and consistently than his teams. Oh, and I can't use the Rays? That's just nitpicking because they are obviously a much better team than the White Sox now and going forward, but I'll accept that. That still leaves 5 teams just in our league. If you choose to go all the way back to 2001 to make a point, then go ahead. I think 5 years is a good cutoff to evaluate what a GM has done of late. 2005: 'nuff said. 2006: On paper, team was better than 2005. 57-31 at the all-star break. I'm certainly not blaming Kenny for the second half collapse. 2007: Kenny gets some blame here. Didn't really upgrade the team from the previous year. And that bullpen experiment failed miserably. 2008: KW deserves more credit here than for 2005. Brought in the almost ROY and MVP. Two bold trades that brought in Danks/Floyd the previous year paid major dividends. 2009: 50/50 here. The roster that ended the season was much better than the roster that began the season. The division was there for the taking. And the team didn't get it done. 2010: TBD. I'm just fine with KW as our GM.
  19. Oh, and the title of this thread needs to be changed. KW didn't in any way shape, or form, issue an ultimatum.
  20. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 11, 2010 -> 01:22 AM) Well, they don't have to know better to "issue an ultimatum." Not going to games would be a way to do that, and it seems that the fans have already issued an ultimatum. Yes, because before this year the fans were showing up in droves. Our attendance has always been top-notch! GMAB. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 11, 2010 -> 01:25 AM) The A's have been to the playoffs five times since 2000. The Twins, obviously, and it looks like the Rays will be a regular playoff fixture for a while. So, including the three teams you said and those three, you have six teams. The A's have been to the playoffs 1 out of the last 5 years, including three consecutive years of at least 10 games below .500. The Twins have as many division titles as we do (and one less World Series title) in the last 5 years. And you don't get to add the Rays to you list because it "looks like" they'll be a regular playoff fixture. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 11, 2010 -> 01:40 AM) Not to mention the Cardinals have been to the World Series twice (won one) and I think have 7 or 8 playoff appearances in the last 9 years or something like that. I was specifically citing the AL. But yeah, the Cards are definitely there with the Red Sox and Yankees in terms of sustained success.
  21. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 11, 2010 -> 12:15 AM) That's a great defense of him. His record isn't though. If you make the safe assumption this year is going to end after 162, that's 8 seasons of 10 under him not in the playoffs, and the 9th saw us win a whopping 1 playoff game after narrowly taking a bad division. (And yes, I know he found a great batch of smoke and mirrors in 2005, I enjoyed it as much as everybody else. It's kept him and Ozzie employed for quite a while now.) And what's your defense? "There's a lot of executives that could do better." Then, of course, you don't cite anybody. The GM is the least of my worries right now. Yeah, the two playoff appearances in 9 years is nothing to get loud about. But other than the Yankees and Red Sox, who have yearly payrolls that go above and beyond every other team, who have been the constants in the AL? Yeah, you've got the Angels. But that division has been bad, bad, bad for most of the last 7 years or so. I'm certainly not saying KW is perfect. But good luck coming up with a legitimate list of 5 GMs that could be had that could do a better job than KW.
  22. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 11, 2010 -> 12:12 AM) They don't, but a lot of baseball executives do, which is a problem. Yeah, not really.
  23. lol@Brian Funetes. Evan Longoria=AL MVP.
  24. QUOTE (soxfan72 @ May 10, 2010 -> 11:53 PM) When do Sox fans get to give Kenny Williams the ultimatum?? Yeah, everybody knows Sox fans know better how to run a team than KW.
  25. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 10, 2010 -> 11:55 PM) He stayed 2 years too long (well this will be his second year at Seattle). Wish he would have hung them up after his 08-09 season. Amazing the numbers he put up with us and the Reds combined at age 38 though. His '08 wasn't really all that good. .249/.353/.424/.778. His last good year was 2007.
