  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 5, 2010 -> 03:25 PM) If Liriano keeps this up they can hang with any of them. Doubtful. They still don't have the rotation depth of NY/Tampa.
  2. QUOTE (sircaffey @ May 5, 2010 -> 03:23 PM) Starlin Castro watch: AA - 101 AB, .356/.407/.545 Hate to admit it. But Castro looks like a player.
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 5, 2010 -> 02:14 PM) Even so, some people's schadenfeude when it comes to the Cubs is pretty absurd. If your greatest moments of relief and joy surround watching some team you don't like lose a baseball game, it may be time to re-evaluate things. Guilty as charged. September/October of 2003 to that point had been BRUTAL for me (in a sporting sense). The Sox choking down the stretch made it tough enough. But the Cubs on a playoff tear? It was unbearable. It was Cubbie fever 24/7. Everywhere you went. People who had never watched a baseball game in their lives sporting Cub gear. Even my mom, who can't spell baseball, jumped on the wagon. The Sox had never been so irrelevant. I'm with fathom. The most relieving moment of my sports life? No. But I can see where he's coming from. I'll be forever in debt to the 2003 Marlins (and Bartman).
  4. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ May 5, 2010 -> 01:17 PM) Jose Contreras is temporarily going to be the closer for the Phils: http://sports.yahoo.com/fantasy/blog/roto_...=fantasy,238335 He's also throwing the hardest he has in his career and has a 14:0 K:BB. Nowhere in the article does it say Jose has been named the temporary closer. Just speculation by Behrens.
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 5, 2010 -> 07:12 AM) And the game-tying home run came from the starting pitcher, which should give you all the momentum you need, until that same pitcher coughs it up, just like the other "ace" did. The one thing I'll always remember from that game is MCab's 1st inning 3-run bomb. Wood threw him like a 97-mph fastball ankle high, and Cabrera just golfed it out to the back of the bleachers. I was just like, wow, this kid is gonna be good. When Wood hit that HR I immediately said to myself "f*** it, the Cubs are going to the World Series." I was obviously watching the game on the tube. But I had never heard a ballpark as loud as Wrigley got after Wood's HR. I couldn't believe it. When Alou made it 5-3 I turned it off. I couldn't take it. About 20 minutes later I said f*** it. I was just gonna suck it up. Good move by me.
  6. Clayton, um, Kershaw? Is that you?
  7. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ May 4, 2010 -> 09:51 PM) I wonder how many Royals' fans are out there saying to themselves "Glad Teahen's yer problem now!". Oh no doubt. Especially since Chris Getz and Josh Fields are tearing some s*** up.
  8. Outside of Danks, the SP has been a big disappointment so far.
  9. Gavin had nothing from the start. It was just a matter of time.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2010 -> 08:34 PM) Yay Octavio Dotel! lol. I thought the Cubs had taken the lead or something.
  11. QUOTE (jphat007 @ May 4, 2010 -> 08:07 PM) That's such bulls***. I root for the Sox to win and the Twins and Detroit to lose every f***ing night. And if you don't believe that, I don't care one bit. lol. Just like last week when you tried to pigeon hole the Sox sweeping the Mariners. You said the Royals were on the verge of sweeping the Mariners even though it was only the second game of a 3-game series and the Royals were only up 1 in the 7th inning. The Mariners come back and win and you don't say a word. Your agenda is clear.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 4, 2010 -> 08:03 PM) I cannot believe anyone would give jphat007 any crap for being negative. This guy was the ultimate optimist for years. I think he feels burned and he's skeptical. Please. You can be objective and not be a homer. jphat has taken being negative to another level. He hopes teams that beat us lose to other teams just so he can b**** about how those same teams can't beat anybody but us.
  13. QUOTE (jphat007 @ May 4, 2010 -> 08:00 PM) Bam. I posted the same time as you! And don't give me that s***. I've been sitting here rooting for this team for a long time. And been positive (overly so, ask fathom) for a long time. But I'm not gonna sit here and act like everything is cool and good when it obviously is not. 5 minutes later. Had anymore runs scored it would've taken you about 7 seconds to post how much Gavin sucks.
  14. QUOTE (jphat007 @ May 4, 2010 -> 07:53 PM) Well, now we know why Floyd signed that contract. And not a peep outta you after the great play by PK and Gavin getting outta the inning. You're a sad, sad dude.
  15. PK just temporarily saved this game for us.
  16. Gavin's got nothing tonight. This could get ugly.
  17. Can't defend Teahen tonight. He looks like crap. And it's only the third inning.
  18. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ May 4, 2010 -> 01:05 AM) Is he, now? I think people throw around the word "average" too much, possibly taking it to mean "what I find acceptable". Without getting into more advanced statistics, average is about a .750 OPS. Teahen's career OPS is .750. He's pretty much the poster boy for average offense, though, as has been noted before, he's played in Loserville his entire career. I mean, clearly this is a lukewarm defense of the guy, but let's not mischaracterize him as a bum offensively. +1. You see this all the time. X player is "below" average at whatever. Yeah, he's below average offensively compared to Evan Longoria. But what about vs EVERY other 3B in the AL or MLB?
  19. Joe Borchard hit for the cycle last night. I know he's a bust of epic proportion. But I still kinda like him.
  20. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ May 4, 2010 -> 12:49 AM) Im not sure if we can call the Rockies good yet since Jimenez has half of their wins. Let's just say they'll be A LOT better than the '09 Royals.
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 4, 2010 -> 12:05 AM) I know slot of people hate him , but I saw him develop what could have been a weak core into one of the better ones in the league with Rose, Gibson, Noah and maybe Johnson or deng from what I thought was garbage (excluding Rose as he us awesome). I ate slot of crow on noah and Gibson. I honestly don't know what another coach would have done better. 2 playoff appearences with avg rosters. I guess with a star and an experienced coach it will be better next season, but I think he was pretty good while here. All I know is JP better get fired before the next coach does.
  22. Ubaldo Jimenez is this year's Zack Greinke. And unlike ZG, he's actually on a good team.
  23. JP has given up 1 ER in his last 12 1/3 IP. I think he's figured it out.
  24. QUOTE (chw42 @ May 3, 2010 -> 09:40 PM) Not going to last. He's currently sporting a .330 BABIP (about 50 points higher than projections and career numbers). Yeah, his BB/K ratio is still about the same.
  25. ahahahaha. hahahaha. YES! PODS! /jphat
