  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 03:27 PM) Wow, D-Backs currently up on the Cubs 13-1 in the 7th. I've watched about 7 Arizona games so far. That offense is no joke. Not an easy out in that lineup. Might be the second best lineup in the NL after Philly.
  2. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 01:17 AM) His base running is bad though... If we think Pods gets picked off a lot, Andrus gets picked off a lot more. But with his inexperience, you kind of expect that. No way. He was picked off only 3 times last year. He has been picked off 3 times this year (a Pods-like pace). But no way is he at Pods' level yet.
  3. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 12:57 AM) Have you looked at our players' stats recently? What manager could win with the numbers they have put up so far? Quentin: BA under .190 Beckham: OBP under .300 AJ: BA under .170 OBP .231 Alexei: OBP .229 Peavy: ERA 7.85 Floyd: ERA 8.38 Buehrle: ERA 4.68 Garcia: ERA 5,82 Which players would you say that Ozzie is directly responsible for having on this team? I agree. Too much is being made of the Kotsay's, Pierre's and Vizquel's. Aside from Danks, our top dogs are not getting it done.
  4. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 12:48 AM) Ima just say this, since we are playing them now, but noticed for a bit here. I'm beginning to like Elvis Andrus. (not quite love level yet though) .400 OBP and already has 16 walks in 69 ABs (had 40 all of last season) Didn't think he would this good, this early on in his career. (though maybe in a year or two) Already one of the best defensive SS in the game. I will say this though, he will come back down to earth with his inflated BABIP, but the improved discipline is really encouraging. He's only hitting .261. So there's not much to come down from in that regard. If anything the K-rate is the thing to be concerned about (although I seriously doubt it stays at 26.2). The BB% is nice to see for such a young player. And he's got plus speed to boot. The defense is unquestionable. The Rangers appear to be set at SS for quite some time.
  5. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 11:52 PM) They just haven't been anywhere close to the team they were since they were 17-3 or so in the 1st 20 games. Mike Woodson could bolt to Philly also if Larry Brown becomes president of operations there also. Atlanta's half-court offense is terrible.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 11:33 PM) Can he keep up his reputation as a Cubs killer this weekend? I think so. And this is OT: Is it bad when you're in love with another male athlete? I mean I really, really enjoy watching Evan Longoria play baseball. Did anybody see the bomb he hit last night?
  7. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 11:42 PM) Also, I want to add that his rip towards Chuck Garfien looking like he belongs on To Catch A Predator is absolutely correct. Something about the way the man looks is freightening. I love that show. That decoy named Casey is foine.
  8. QUOTE (11and1 @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 11:32 PM) He's none of the things that make Ozzie so bad of late. I might have to give up White Sox baseball if we replaced Ozzie with Joey Cora.
  9. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 11:25 PM) sorry to harp on this, but i just had whiskey... There was an accusation that the people criticizing not picking up a power LH hitter this offseason was just a safeguard because if our players sucked we could say "i told you so" and if our players rocked we could just be like "oh well...this is great" but i'm imagining you, flash tizzle, are the embodiment of the "i told you so" not bringing any pleasure to a fan who just wants to get to the playoffs. The "our scouting and minors are horrendous" was your calling card for years even as people tried to sell you that it was fine since we could trade them. Yes, to Tizzle's credit, he called out our horrendous scouting/drafting/system/ect back in 2006. Nobody wanted to listen (including me). We were coming off a championship. KW, Ozzie, Jerry, ect could do no wrong. We're paying dearly now for these nearly decade-long deficiencies.
  10. QUOTE (danman31 @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 10:45 PM) Eduardo Escobar has a higher ISO than Jon Gilmore. What the hell? Did dan just reference a Saber stat? I think Ozzieball is having quite the influence on you.
  11. Chris Young is having himself a fine April.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 06:14 PM) Why they got rid of Franklin Gutierrez is even MORE puzzling. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...sp&c_id=mlb Why don't we hear something similar from KW, doesn't he have the same sense of urgency as Colletti? Finally, depressing Twins news of the day....Twins haven't lost a series YET this season. We've won a grand total of ONE. And, by the way, all that speculation about how they'd play at TARGET? Who cares, they're 8-3 on the road, with that number, their home record almost doesn't matter. Huh?
  13. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 10:04 PM) HAHAHA. Now that's funny. Seriously though, when was the last time we had a good bench? I literally can't think of a single time where I said, "damn, we have a competent bench." Maybe back in the early days of my fandom, like '03.. but I can't remember. We had a pretty good one in 2006.
  14. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 09:11 PM) Williams comes in, and does his job.. give up as many runs that aren't his as possible. I'd love to know what his inherited runners score is.
  15. Vlad might be slower than Konerko.
  16. CQ is a terrible RF.
  17. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 08:55 PM) I'm officially on the "I want Pods back" boat. I'd take d'angelo Jimenez back on the team right now.
  18. JP makes me want to puke. I'm not kidding. I hated the acquisition from the start.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 08:52 PM) Yes, I would have said Lee is better than Peavy, especially in that ballpark with that defense. Well that's not Lee being better. That's just him being in a better position to succeed. Pure talent wise I'd go Peavy over Lee without thinking twice.
  20. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 08:49 PM) I think their rotation is fine. Especially when Bedard comes back. Bedard is a total wildcard.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 08:49 PM) Hernandez Lee Bedard Rowland-Smith Fister Lee is better than anyone on our staff. You wouldn't have said that before the season. Peavy sucks right now. Just about everybody has been better than him.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 08:42 PM) We also don't have Cliff Lee, Ichiro, a defensive/offensive threat that is equal to Franklin Gutierrez (Rios has been close, but look at Gutierrez's numbers AND his salary), Chone Figgins (sucky so far) or a defender that's close to as talented as Kotchmann (Kotsay is good, but not that good and not capable of regular play). GMAB, caulfield. Our rotation 2-5 destroys their 2-5 on paper. We have the better bullpen by a pretty good margin as well. Franklin is hitting a little over his head. I think what you saw from him last year is probably his max. No, we don't have an Ichiro. And there's no contest between the two teams defensively. But player for player, the Sox have more talent.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 08:35 PM) Without injuries, you'd put us above Seattle? Yes. We obviously don't have a Felix Hernandez. Besides that, I'd take our talent over theirs. Certainly doesn't mean we have a better team.
  24. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 08:36 PM) Hawk just compared Andrus to Jeter. And Q just hit a three run shot. About time. Andrus right now is a better defensive SS than Jeter has EVER been.
  25. OZZIE BALL AT IT'S FINEST! God damn we needed that.
