  1. And Mike Stanton is going completely f***ing nuts. He's belted 5 bombs in the last two days (two yesterday, three today). His season line: .338/.482/.800/1.282. A god damn second round pick. The Marlins are simply outstanding at scouting/drafting/developing.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 03:22 PM) With Linebrink's experience as an elite set-up man...Thornton, Putz (if he gets the zip back on his fastball, which will take at least another 2-3 months in all likelihood), Santos, Pena and then Threets (if healthy), I wouldn't trade our mix of experience, youth and raw stuff for the Dodgers' pen. No way. Not because I'm a White Sox fan first, just because I think our pen is better. Stick their pen in the AL East and see what happens. Jonathan Broxton might be the best non-Rivera closer in baseball. George Sherrill would be closing for at least a dozen other teams. Hong-Chih Kuo when healthy is basically their Matt Thornton (with a little less velocity on his FB). Throw in Belisario and Troncoso and the Dodgers pen is better with fewer question marks.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 03:08 PM) And yeah, Pods/Iguchi has to be replicated by Pierre/Beckham. That's nowhere close to happening. And so that's a BIG reason for optimism, if those guys can get going, along with Paulie/Jonesy/Rios/Quentin/Ramirez....this team could be very very dangerous. It's the rose-colored glasses optimism. On paper, this offense with Jones and Rios as dangerous threats trumps 2005. But they're nowhere close to a 3.61 ERA....Floyd and Peavy have been hot messes and the bullpen pitches great in Carrasco situations and not so well in tie games or when it's +/- one or two runs. But with the exception of Williams, we have the most talent of any bullpen in the majors, IF IF IF Santos is for real and doesn't fall off the Aardsma/MacDougal cliff the first time or so he gets rapped around and gives up some crooked numbers in pressure situations. That would be the Dodgers.
  4. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 03:06 PM) Kevin_Goldstein Talking to scout about #WhiteSox outfielder Trayce Thompson. "Is this for real?" I ask. Scout: "Oh yeah, absolutely. He's tremendous." about 2 hours ago via TweetDeck
  5. As I said in the GT yesterday, the words "Ozzie ball" should be banished forever. We were an "Ozzie ball" team for exactly half a season in 2005 when Podsednik was getting on base at a .380 clip and stealing bases like nobody's business.
  6. Anybody still want to trade the farm for Gonzalez now? lol.
  7. Dayan obviously didn't like that I created this thread.
  8. And Dayan says f*** you, J4L.
  9. For complete lack of a better word, this idea is pathetic.
  10. QUOTE (Chi Town Sox @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 12:56 PM) Another little tidbit apart from Willie Harris batting 3rd the other night. Ross Gload led off for the Phils yesterday. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 12:57 PM) That Phillies line up proves that either other world series winning managers are crazy, or Ozzie isn't as stupid as people think. That was one game. And Jimmy Rollins is currently on the DL. No comparison to what Ozzie has done so far.
  11. Oh, and for those who haven't gotten a chance to see him, Elvis Andrus is a joy to watch play SS.
  12. I hate going to Texas. Seems like we never play well there.
  13. So at what point can one become legitimately concerned about Dayan Vicedo? I wanted to give him 100 PA (he's had 65 PA so far) before I could make my own assessment. But even with that, because I obviously don't get to watch Knight games, I can only go by stats. Which I hate doing. But the stats are indeed ugly: .222/.234/.302/.536 BB/K ratio 1/20 1 HR. Again, 65 PA is a small sample size. I know this. I don't have to be reminded. And I know he's extremely young for AAA. Which is why I questioned him being there in the first place, as his performance in AA last season didn't at all justify the promotion. It appears to me that the organization possibly either grossly overestimated Viciedo or are trying to justify the 10 million dollar investment. It's really difficult to find positive scouting reports about the kid anywhere other than Whitesox.com or people associated with the White Sox.
  14. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Apr 25, 2010 -> 05:44 PM) What can he get us? I'm thinking 30+ saves. And about 10 blown saves if his WHIP doesn't come down. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 25, 2010 -> 10:38 PM) What can he get us? Saves on most nights he's in the game with a lead. Not when he's allowing multiple base-runners every time out.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 25, 2010 -> 10:50 PM) I don't see how anybody who is a fan of baseball would rather see Juan Pierre in our lineup than Pods. Doesn't the eye test count for something? Doesn't it pain you to watch Juan bat as it pains me? Pods is a better hitter. He just is, sabermetrics be darned. He's been better for the first 3 weeks. Is Kelly Johnson better than Chase Utley? Is Jorge Cantu better than Evan Longoria? Is Jose Guillen better than Justin Upton? Is Matt Capps better than Mo Rivera? I know. These are terrible examples. lol.
  16. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 25, 2010 -> 09:39 PM) I'm pretty sure a lot of fans are worried about Jenks, just because he got a 40 year old out and had to be told not to throw junk doesn't mean he should get a free pass and we should all think Bobby is fine again. It's not b****ing, it's worrying about him and his possible failures in the future due to his tendency to allow a lot of base runners. I agree 100%. Bobby won't make it to June if he's sporting a 1.75 WHIP. People need to look at the bigger picture.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 25, 2010 -> 09:27 PM) And if we had been on the Seattle end of it people would be screaming about not accepting moral victories. Like I said, I'll take the wins. Not complaining a bit about that. I just thought there was some validity in what Greg said. We blew a 5-2 lead Friday. Blew another late lead (albeit only 1 run) yesterday and scored a measly 3 runs on a passed ball, a GO and the PK HR today. We're obviously not going to consistently win games with 8th and 9th inning HRs. They're going to have to play A LOT better. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 25, 2010 -> 09:28 PM) The thing is, our offense is still playing about as badly as possible. We could easily be 4-15 right now, etc. I'll take 3 games under .500 considering how much has gone wrong. I'm thrilled with the weekend sweep, and it's nice to have some excitement and energy with the team. Let's just say we were fortunate to avoid Felix and Lee (the latter is set to return April 30). And 8-11 is worlds better than 5-14. I'll never complain about wins. But it's easy to see they didn't play good baseball. Rangers/Yankees coming up next. If they play those two teams like they did this last series, will look up and be 8-17.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 25, 2010 -> 08:26 PM) Worst. Sweep. Ever. It's funny. But Greg has a point. I've never been less impressed with a 3-game sweep by the Sox in almost 20 years (yes, I know I can't recall every sweep of the last 20 years). But you get the point. I just don't feel like we're playing any better now than we were before Friday. BUT I'll take the wins anyway we can get them.
  19. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 25, 2010 -> 02:56 PM) Chris Davis and Kila Ka'aihue Chris Davis' suckage is blocking him. KK would be nice. I don't know why KC just doesn't trade him. Yonder Alonso is another guy. Although they'll probably just move him to LF.
  20. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 25, 2010 -> 08:40 PM) The 2008 Draft looks like it could be one of the best the Sox have had in a long time. The 2008 draft is already the best we've had in at least 10 years. Beckham by himself makes this true (although he's stinkin' up the joint right now). And TT is a 2009 draft pick by the way.
  21. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Apr 25, 2010 -> 08:05 PM) That's my hope to make LBJ realize he can't win it with that circus and needs our young core more. I so hope the Thunder (doubtful) or the winner of the Jazz/Nuggets can knock LA out. I'd love to see Lebron's punk ass go home early again. But I'd rather see Cleveland win it all over LA. And that's the only east team that can beat them, IMO.
  22. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Apr 25, 2010 -> 03:28 PM) not that this should shock anyone. . . but Shaq is f***ing done. He's looked awful since the first half of game 1. They obviously don't need him to beat us. They probably won't need him against Boston. But they'll definitely need him for Orlando. And if this is all they're gonna get from him, Orlando might just wax they ass again.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 25, 2010 -> 06:39 PM) I couldn't tell if the Bulls got satisified with a victory or the Cavs finally decided to play some defense. Just a case of a superior team laying the smackdown on an 8th seed.
  24. David Price just threw a complete game shutout. THAT.TEAM.IS.AWESOME.
  25. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 25, 2010 -> 02:53 PM) Have you looked at a certain White Sox catcher? It's between Lee, AJP and Brandon Wood.
