Wise to DL with Separated Shoulder/Anderson to Start in CF
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 10:17 PM) Translation: If BA doesn't go 4-4 with 2 hr's, 6 rbi's, and 2 SB he will be right back on the bench and JO will be given the job Um, no. Brian will get his chance. It's up to him to FINALLY take advantage.

2009 Cubs thread
QUOTE (JustWin @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 08:06 PM) How were they able to get Harden last year for practically nothing (nothing that hurt them, anyway)? Like someone said once before, it seems other GM's just give their players away to the Cubs to help them succeed. Obviously that's not the case but that's what it looks like sometimes. If they get Peavy this year for nothing I'm really going to be ticked. I really, really hope Milwauke goes after him hard and Peavy waives his no-trade clause for them. Btw, did Hendry trade for Reed Johnson or did they sign him? Big difference in landing a chronically injured pitcher (although he's extremely talented) who's averaged a little under 17 starts per year in his career compared to a multiple all-star, multiple ERA champ, strikeout champ, who happened to win the CY Young award just two seasons ago. Just look at what the Mariners gave up for Erik Bedard. It 'should' take a package like that to land an even better pitcher in Peavy.

Swisher is currently PITCHING for the Yanks
They obviously won't finish in last, but I think the Yankees could be this year's version of the Tigers. I said before well before the season started that even with all their signings they were the third best team in that division.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 05:19 PM) I wonder what we could get from the Cubs for Jenks. I really can't think of anyone i'd want from them. We don't need Vitters, Colvin, might be okay, but their system is really devoid of any talent near the top. All this is a round-about way of saying they're going to have a hell of a time filling up holes this year without giving away Vitters or even D-Lee. They're basically where we were at before the 2007 draft. They've had a terrible run with their first-round draft picks recently.

White Sox Winner! First place!
Today was exhibit A on why wins in most cases are a poor way of gauging the quality of a pitcher. Unbelievable that Gavin gets the W. He.was.horrible! Loved the offense. I wonder what our LD% for this game was. Ropes all over the place.

Wise to DL with Separated Shoulder/Anderson to Start in CF
I've never really bought into the theory that Ozzie has this personal bias against Brian. But if he (Brian) doesn't get a bulk of the run in CF now? No excuse whatsoever not to have Brian out there a majority of the time for the next couple weeks.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 12, 2009 -> 06:50 PM) I'm still not sold on Jones. I haven't been too impressed when I've seen him play and he needs to fix that strike out and no plate discipline problem before I consider him a future top player. However, he's got a ton of potential. Hell, even Pie still has a lot of potential. Most importantly though, Markakis is 99.9999% of the sex in the O's outfield. I'd possibly give not just one, but both of my nuts to have Markakis on this team. He's like an even awesomer version of Sweeney! I don't know, it seems like I have a fetish for lefty throwing and hitting outfielders. I love Sweeney, Ethier, and Markakis. He's not a finished product by any stretch. But he might be (and this is ridiculous considering how young he is) the best defensive CF in all of baseball. His offense should without question catch up with his d.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 12, 2009 -> 12:05 AM) The Orioles are getting increasingly fun to watch. When Wieters, Matsuz,Tillman, and Arrita come up, they might have something good brewing. They (the Orioles) actually got me thinking about ordering the MLB package. They're that fun to watch. What I wouldn't do to have Adam Jones roamin' CF in a White Sox uniform for the next 10 years.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 11, 2009 -> 06:10 PM) If this was July and the Twins had Mauer What's this supposed to mean? It wasn't July when they scored 12 runs Friday. And as good as Mauer is, I feel safe in saying his presence in the lineup yesterday wouldn't have mattered much. Bartolo got the job done. End of story.

And that's a Corpse Ball loser!!
QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 01:07 AM) The difference is no leadoff hitter, no center fielder, and (most likely) much weaker starting pitching. Not to mention the best defense in baseball highlighted by three guys in Rowand, Crede and Uribe, who were arguably the best at their positions at the three most important defensive spots in the field that season.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 09:28 PM) 1/2 game out of the 6th seed and the Magic. For those who wanted VDN run out of town after, I don't know, 20 games or so. What's your opinion of him now? What coach, and please don't say Mike D'Antoni, could've done more with this team than VDN has? And don't give me the ",Well, I just don't think VDN can lead us to a championship" or "I think we just need a more experienced head coach," fluff. When you consider what a disaster last season was, how imbalanced the roster was/is, the injuries, ect - what's your opinion of the job he's done for THIS season?

Nick Adenhart Killed in Car Crash
QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 01:06 PM) Its so annoying to read these stupid RIP threads and see so many people claim "I will never drink and drive again" just because some baseball player dies when ordinary people die from this ALL the time and its never mentioned. Did I or anybody else insinuate that drinking and driving was cool until this incident? My situation was over 2 years ago. And I haven't gotten behind the wheel of a car drunk since. I didn't all of a sudden become reformed yesterday.

And that's a Corpse Ball loser!!
As a fan, I can accept getting stymied by Meche/Greinke. They're two of the top pitchers in the division. Kyle Davies? Unacceptable. Unfortunately, we're probably going to see a lot of this all year.

2009 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 10:58 AM) They need pitching. Chris Tillman, Brian Matusz and Jake Arrieta, their 3 top pitching prospects, were ranked #22, #25 and #67 in BA's top 100 prospects list. They've also got talented high-ceiling guys in Brandon Erbe and David Hernandez. Obviously, you never know how prospects will turn out. But the potential looks to be there. If even 3 of those 5 guys turn out well they'll be set up quite nicely for the next half decade. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 07:10 PM) Chris Carpenter took a no hitter in to the 7th inning in getting his first win since the 2006 world series. If he goes the distance this season...watch out. Indeed. CC is a big-time X-factor in that division.

Nick Adenhart Killed in Car Crash
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 11:33 AM) Its amazing how the majority of these stories have drinking and driving involved with them. This guy was a totally innocent victim who has his life cut short because of someone else's stupidity. If you go to a game anytime soon, and you drive, and the beer vendor won't sell you a beer until you are finished with the one you are currently drinking, instead of cussing him out, and complaining about the new rule, thank him he may be saving someone some heartache. Yup. And every time I read a story like this I get a sick vomit feeling in my stomach because I was guilty of driving under the influence a couple years ago. So, so fortunate my dumbass didn't hurt anybody. I'm NEVER letting that dumb s*** happen again.

QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 07:07 PM) I like me some Emiliooooooooo Bonifacio. He's off to a hell of a start. I LOVE me some Adam Jones and Nick Markakis. They're probably my two favorite non White Sox players in all of baseball. The AL East (and the entire AL for that matter) better get their licks in while they still can. With the arms they've got comin' up, Wieters on the way, and the aforementioned Jones/Markakis, the O's are primed to become scary good.

The Official "Please Acquire Elijah Dukes" Thread
QUOTE (R.J. @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 09:04 PM) Dukes is the classic example - you wither care about character and personality in your players or you don't. I think we can all agree that throwing that away, Dukes would immediately become our starting center fielder and make a huge impact on our lineup. He takes walks, he's a power/speed combo player with tremendous upside. Of course he's also a terrible human being. We saw last year that guys who don't mesh with the clubhouse don't last on this team. We saw that guys who don't know their role or clash with Ozzie will not be welcome. I think this pretty much rules out nay acquisition of Dukes. On the other hand, before coming to the White Sox, Bobby Jenks was pretty widely accepted to be a psychopath too. I don't think Carl Everett won any humanitarian awards. And then there's that guy behind the plate, who has a similarly spotty reputation. If you'd refuse to acquire a guy who would be a monstrous upgrade just because he's a prick, then you're making a misjudgment. But we'd be right to remain weary of giving up too much to acquire a player who might cause trouble and eventually warrant his release. It's a classical risk/reward scenario. Excellent post. I'll always go with talent in most cases. But I didn't realize how f***ed up Elijah was/is.
