QUOTE(BFirebird @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 09:23 PM) When did Uribe learn to bunt? That is 2 sacs in a row for him. He was our best bunter last year.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 09:18 PM) I honestly would love to take some swings against Garcia. Hitters seems so comfortable against him at the plate. I can't believe he has 6 k's.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 09:14 PM) Can we fire Cora for having the baseball I.Q. of a penguin. Fixed QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 09:15 PM) It is time for Ozzie to throw Cora under the bus. No more silly excuses for your buddy Ozzie. It will NEVER happen. Just like will never know why Freddy Garcia has turned into Freddy Moyer.

Anybody know where I can find out how many runners we've had thrown out at home this year?

Cora needs to be called out. Of course, he's one of Ozzie's boys. So it won't happen.

Perspective - the year after a playoff appearance is always a dissapoi
QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 04:47 PM) Was it an upgrade? We all thought so, but on the field it's turned into 7 or 8 games worse so far. And that's my point. This season shows why it's unrealistic (in my opinion) to ever expect a World Series. Expectation is based on assumption. Each season is its own animal, and last year doesn't guarantee a thing. I'm not daring to tell anyone else what to feel or expect, I'm just saying that all I ever want from the Sox is to field a competitive team. From that point on, it's about performance, execution and the "intangibles" that separate contenders from the rest. I agree with you here. It's arrogant for anybody to really expect a World Series. I do, however, fully expect this team to atleast give themselves the opportunity. Failure to make the playoffs with this team's talent would be disgraceful.

midseason top25
Good god@that list. This is why we BETTER atleast get into the playoffs. To rape our farm system like we have and not even get into the playoffs would be a a tragedy.

Hilarious! Red Sox Boards.
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 09:56 PM) I have absolutely 0 confidence in the White Sox but no one in their right mind can tell me that the Red Sox are in just as good of a position as the White Sox. That makes no sense. They just got blasted 9-0 by the A's. The "washed up" Frank Thomas with a HR and 3 walks. Boston is done.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 04:50 PM) Not a fan of Ortiz? I hate the Sawx, but I have a hard time disliking Ortiz. ESPN makes me hate him. I know that's not his fault. I just can't help it.

No Surprise: Dye = AL Player of the Week
He's my player of the year.

Hilarious! Red Sox Boards.
QUOTE(redandwhite @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 04:07 PM) No, we are not. You're kidding, right? The Red Sox have exactly one starter and one reliever who don't totally suck right now. Their best hitter (yes, Manny is a better hitter than Sloppy) has a bum knee. Varitek is out for the season (Lopez is so garbage). Nobody is doing much of anything in that lineup besides Sloppy. And, you trail not one, but two teams by 5+ games in the WC. I'm not saying everything is peaches and cream for the White Sox. But they're in MUCH better shape than Boston.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 03:44 PM) Fans who are unreasonable may be comical to some, but in my opinion having such a passion for your team is what makes sports so good. I just fail to see the humor, especially at a time when the White Sox are just as worse off as the Red Sox are. It sucks for both of us. You guys are much worse off. Much, much worse.

This team needs to make some changes...
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 02:56 PM) Interesting about Pods, he had two beautiful bunt singles and a couple of steals this weekend... I wonder if he is finally ready to go now, or if this is just a tease? This offense goes from really good to a friggin' juggernaut if Pods comes out of his coma.

Perspective - the year after a playoff appearance is always a dissapoi
QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 08:07 AM) But the other side to that is that Braves fans got so spoiled that they stopped filling the park for first-round playoff games. And they s*** on Braves management for "only" winning one World Series in the 14 years that they made the postseason every year. Atlanta is one of the worst sports towns in the country. It would never be like that in Chicago if we were to have a perennial contender. And they do deserve some criticism for only winning one title. Totally disagree here. Our GM upgraded a roster that won it all last year. Why not expect greatness? QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 02:19 PM) So it's October then? The outlook isn't good...but the season's not over, they're a half a game back of Minnesota in the Wild Card, and are still only 5.5 back of Detroit. This team is playing really good baseball right now...they're just not friggin winning the games. Almost all of that is on the pitching. We have to pitch. If we don't pitch, we are screwed. I say just wait it out and see where this team is come October 1. If we're not in the playoffs, than it's a huge disappointment, even if the Sox win 97 games. Where's the green, Wite?

Happy Birthday...
QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 11:10 PM) Ugh. 36. Not a good age for a big contributor to a team with championship aspirations. Ummmm? OK?

AND THIS BALL GAME IS OVA!!!
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 01:03 AM) Twins held a mirror up to the white sox this weekend and showed them what they used to look like - hungry, aggressive at every opportunity, scraping, clawing, fighting to get on, get over, get in. It's not too late to say "oh yeah, THAT's how we should be playing." And it starts at the freakin top of the line up. If anyone is going to spark this team it's going to be pods, like it or not. The big guys might carry us for a few games but that leaves the rest of the team watching from the sidelines. Nothing is going to re-energize this team like a player who gets on and gives pitchers fits on the base paths, knocking them out of their rythym and giving guys behind him some added incentive to bring him around (witness Joe Nathan throwing a ball away to first). It can happen. Allah willing, Scotty gets it going. FINALLY. Very well put. We can talk about the starting pitching all day. We know how important that is. But we need Pods to step up if we're gonna get into the playoffs and do some damage. This is a completely different looking team when he's on. We saw it last year and we saw it in May of this year. We put together our best stretch of the season (I believe we went 22-5) in May when Pods was goin' nuts.

ST Poll: Which Sox starter, excluding Garland..
QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 10:42 PM) In my opinion they all need to pitch better. We really can't have 2 guys doing real good we need all of them to do good. Having all 5 get goin' would be ideal. NOBODY can match the White Sox' pitching depth if they're all pitching like they're capable. However, we could get by if just 3 of them can get hot. Garland is doing his part. Mark looks like he's getting back to being Mark. We need one more guy to step up.
