  1. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 10:33 PM) Personally, I think analysis which boils down to: "We've got a good record and really anything could happen" isn't worth much. Pointing out what is wrong with the rotation, some regulars in the lineup and our manager is of considerably more value. At least it actually involves analysis with some depth and meaning. That beats "I'm sure everything is going to be all right. Last year was fun, wasn't it." I just wonder what everybody is gonna say if/when we fall out of the WC lead. Good chance it's gonna happen tomorrow. I was as calm and patient with this team as you could possibly be for nearly 5 months. I can't be blind to our current situation anymore. We are what we are. I hope it's good enough to atleast get in the playoffs.
  2. QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 10:13 PM) I don't know why Brian Anderson gets let off the hook by so many fans. Has he proven he can hit yet in the big leagues? I mean I like his defense as much as anybody but you can't tell me he's done better than Rowand did. Again, I like his defense and his potential I guess, but Brian Anderson does not appear to me to have star potential as a hitter. I know ... Crede took a while too. We shall see but to say we'll have one of the best cf's for the next six years, I dunno about that. Even the biggest Brian supporters have to admit he has been a C- at the plate to D plus to go with his A-plus work in cf. Brian had a HORRIBLE April/May/most of June. His overall numbers aren't gonna look that good no matter what he does. However, he's been considerably better since July 1. I believe he's hitting at or around .300 since then. He's even helped us win a couple of games with his bat. I don't even have to get into what he brings to the table defensively. Brian is a rookie. He's not the first guy to struggle his few first months at the big league level. He's gonna be an outstanding all-around player.
  3. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 10:09 PM) KW gambled for a #5 starter with some pretty good talent. You win some, you lose some. Sometimes it rains. I'm gonna barf the next time somebody claims Kenny traded a top 20 prospect in hopes of getting back a typical #5 starter -- especially one that makes as much paper as Javy does.
  4. Congratulations to the Charlotte Knights. They've had a great year.
  5. QUOTE(brijames @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 08:57 PM) Tigers will win 3 of these 4 and the race for the Central Title will be over. Any questions? Will our starting pitching atleast be decent?
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 08:50 PM) Where was this problem in his last start against the Tigers? That's why I said "if" true. I don't really buy it.
  7. QUOTE(cgaudin @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 08:50 PM) Ther's no Phawkin way! Detroit's too far ahead and their pitching is what ours was last year. So forget it. Let's just stay ahead of the Twinkerbells and call it a season....only to get our asses kicked by Oakland in the ALDS. We'd more than likely play the Yankees. I'd love to see our staff against that offense in the playoffs.
  8. If what Melton is saying is true, how long has his back been giving him problems? If it's been a while, I'll be pissed beyond belief that we didn't get B-mac stretched out a longgggggg time ago.
  9. QUOTE(cgaudin @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 08:46 PM) This is trouble. I'm just hoping Garland keeps the ship afloat. Garland alone won't be enough. Even if he pitches like he did the first-half of last year. We need atleast 3 of these 5 guys to get goin' at the same time.
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 08:44 PM) Buerhle said it wasn't a big series, and T. Hunter said the Twins were so amped up for it that he was nervous they'd be too intense. Yup. Crede was all nonchalant as well.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 08:40 PM) Real simple: where's the passion and intensity on this team? I think some heads have gotten rather large because of what was accomplished last year. I wish I could find the quotes from Buehrle and Crede on Friday before that first game against the Twins. They were acting like it was April or May.
  12. Nothin' much to say. Another horrible outing from a starting pitcher. Terrible approach/at-bats against a very talented pitcher.
  13. As far as I'm concerned, the sweep against Detroit never happened.
  14. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 08:34 PM) I'll be happy if we can atleast make them work here. Some kinda momentum going into tomorrow's game would be nice. Nevermind. Terrible game.
  15. I'll be happy if we can atleast make them work here. Some kinda momentum going into tomorrow's game would be nice.
  16. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 08:31 PM) what are we on the season with detroit, 9-4 now? Yes
  17. QUOTE(CYGarland @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 08:31 PM) And I thought Friday and yesterday's game was bad, this was worse.... This team hasn't looked good as a whole since May. Again, we need to thank whatever god we believe in for the offense.
  18. Whew! I was gonna get really scared if Cotts can't even get Neifi out.
  19. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 08:22 PM) That's not what I heard in July. It was don't worry about the pitching, the offense will carry this team. I never said that. Shame on anybody who did.
  20. QUOTE(cgaudin @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 08:17 PM) Our pitching is no longer a "concern". It is a bonafide disaster and KW and Ozzie need to go into emergency mode. They can no longer afford to "wait" for the pitching to "come around" 'cause it ain't gonna happen. It is what it is, and Ozzie needs to shift his managing philosophy with that in mind. I think even though he's only got a 4th grade education, Ozzie has a pretty stout baseball IQ and he will understand that the hook needs to be applied swiftly at first sign of trouble. This season really makes me appreciate last year even more. A bunch of rag-tag scappers somehow found a way, while this team full of All-Stars is barely cuttin' the mustard. Baseball's a funny game. I love it! Problem is we have 4 guys right now who get into trouble just about everytime they go out there. There's really not a whole lot you can do when your entire staff (save Garland) can't hold a team to even 4 runs.
  21. How hot are the A's right now? They were down 8-0 after two innings tonight. It's now 11-8 A's.
  22. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 08:04 PM) Our offense averages 5.62 runs per game on the season. They're averaging 4.84 runs per game in August. I bet no one could see this slump coming. It's all on the pitching. We'd be .500 right now if not for the offense.
  23. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 08:08 PM) Here we go, folks, AB of the night right here. If Podsednik doesn't get on, he'll finish the night with an OBP lower than .330, and an OPS lower than .700. Oh the suspense. I hate that I can't defend Pods anymore. He was easily my favorite position player last year. If he's hurt, he needs to say something.
