Sox SP Turnaround?
QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 12:17 AM) True, but you dont lose a 15 game lead playing great ball Unforunately, i've seen Mark lately, and yes Freddy isn't the same pitcher...and yea what happened the ALCS was extremely rare, I guess my thought is that it can't get much worse than it already is, and if it does..... Oh, it can get much, much worse. If we miss the playoffs, I'll chalk it up as one of the biggest all-time chokes ever. On paper, this team is sick. Kenny went out and significantly upgraded a roster just coming off a championship. Outside of Jose landing on the DL for 15 days (2 starts), this team hasn't had a single major injury. They haven't even had a minor one. So we can't even begin to play the injury card. A team with this level of talent should be performing at a MUCH, MUCH higher level than they are. QUOTE(Harry&JimmyRocked @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 12:20 AM) we're going to be overtaken by toronto pretty soon. it's over. there is not one actual thing on this team you can point to saying we will play anywhere near our first half production. if we don't get that production, we will not make the playoffs. this team has gotten lazy and rested on their accomplishments, mostly the pitching. without jim thome, we are in cleveland indian territory right now. Wow, so I guess you're not gonna watch a single game the rest of the year? I mean since the season is officially over on July 26th?

Sox SP Turnaround?
QUOTE(Harry&JimmyRocked @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 12:16 AM) this is not a slump. it's a total and complete collapse. and never compare any year to last year. we had a double digit lead when we had our problems and STILL almost lost it. now we have no lead and there is NO SIGN that any turnaround is coming. gimmie white flag pt 3 and get some young HUNGRY all around players in here White Flag? Maybe if the WC didn't exist.

Right Now
How many of these type of threads are we going to have? Starting a "Let's get going" thread after every series loss is not gonna magically spark this team.

Sox SP Turnaround?
QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 12:08 AM) When we were slumping last year...did we think our pitchers would be capable of doing what they did in the ALCS is what i'm saying Dude, have you seen Mark Buehrle lately? He makes me want to cry. It tears me up to see one of my all-time favorite players struggling like he is. Freddy is not the same pitcher he was a year ago. We know the deal with Javy. I guess what I'm saying is that our pitching is nowhere near as good as it was last year -- even when we were sliding. Oh, yeah, what happened in the ALCS last year was EXTREMELY rare.

Big Frank
It's always been about health when it comes to Frank Thomas. When he's healthy, or even relatively healthy, he's a force.

Sox SP Turnaround?
QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 12:07 AM) Well when we were losing that lead last year did we think our starters were gonna have that streak of complete games in the ALCS? Huh?

Should McCarthy get some spot starts?
QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 12:03 AM) Last year in a "spot start" I believe he handled the sawx in Fenway pretty well, this can work...or i'd be satisified with Javy goin 5 and BMac starting the 6th Except last year Bmac hadn't been pitching out of the bullpen the entire season. They can't keep dicking this guy around. Either he's in the rotation, or he's not.

Minnesota Twins Post Mortem Playoff Thread
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 08:01 PM) This is a Twins team that could win it all in the playoffs. With Santana and Liriano? Oh baby. They must be destroyed. Everybody talks about Liriano and Santana (rightfully so), but has anybody noticed how good Brad Radke has been the last two months? Radke since May 29th: 5-1 (5 no-decisions), 2.60 era. He's lowered his era from 7.01 to 4.74. If the Twins get in, they're HUGE favorites IMO.

And That's A White Sox Loss
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 11:13 PM) Putting BMac in the rotation may be similar to the Liriano Effect. The sooner he's starting, the smarter we'll look. Look what Weaver has done for the Angels, too. The only problem is it's too late in the season to just throw him into the rotation. It would take a good month I hear for him to get stretched out enough to start.

White Sox close to acquiring Soriano
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 11:04 PM) One thing to remember is if Soriano signs elsewhere, the Sox would get some decent draft picks. Yes! Then maybe Flash will get his wish and we could draft "our" Liriano. You know since those kinda guys are so easy to find.

White Sox close to acquiring Soriano
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 11:01 PM) ever heard of a position change? Yeah, I've heard of it. So what makes people so sure the Nats would want to stick a guy in left who's been a 3rd baseman his entire baseball career?
-
White Sox close to acquiring Soriano
Ryan Zimmerman, people. The Nats don't need Fields.

White Sox close to acquiring Soriano
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 10:55 PM) Who says it would be for 3 months? I can't remember KW ever getting a player for only a rental with no intentions of signing him. Why would he start now? It just isn't his style. I believe if we trade for him and give up top prospects then KW will have some kind of deal set in place with Soriano. Did you quote the wrong post?

Time To Say Bye Bye To Javy
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 10:45 PM) I think your going a bit overboard...in 04 we won like 1 game all year from the 5th spot, javy has a winning record. I realize he gets uber run support, but I don't think you can compare the two. Hell, I wouldn't be shocked if Javy is. I bet after that hit he went, spiff, here it goes again. That is why it may not be bad to take him out if he has 5 strong his next start so he could leave a game with his head held eye and rebuild some confidence (kind of like Ozzie did with Jon, where he started taking him out of games a bit earlier and now recently he's started to let Jon go deeper). I actually think that would hurt him more than help. I mean, a guy is dominating for 5 innings and then gets taken out? I'm sure he'll know it's because they don't have any faith in him past 5 innings. That could actually end up hurting what already has to be his waning confidence.

Sox get Mike MacDougal for Tyler Lumsden and Daniel Cortes
QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 10:07 PM) Actually, bullpen arms are very important in holding leads. And, btw, MacDougal has shown some significant difficulty in his career in holding leads. 50 Saves, 14 blown saves. That is a save conversion percentage of 78% which, sucks. Well, we do have that Jenks guy to close games for us. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 10:12 PM) I actually liked Lummy. Damn, we're getting rid of all the prospects I like. Gio, Lummy, and Tracey is optioned. When can we get rid of guys like McCarthy and Broadway? Green?

And That's A White Sox Loss
QUOTE(CYGarland @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 10:06 PM) On Espnnews alert window, it says CHW close to Soriano trade............I hope so I see it, too. Looks like it might actually happen. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 10:07 PM) That's probably been there for 7 hours. I hadn't seen it up there until now.

QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 09:57 PM) are you saying Contreras can't outpitch Santana? refuse to believe that. Pre-trip to the DL, I'd say yes. He's obviously capable.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 09:54 PM) Now if we dont score against Kyle Lohse someone should be sacrificed immediately. He is stinky poo. Well, we didn't do much against Koronka the other night.

7/24 Game Thread: Twins vs. Sox
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 09:45 PM) It very possible we could lose 0 to -1. It's never happened before, but I wouldn't put it past this bunch. You know it's bad when Heads has nothing good to say. If Jphat starts saying negative stuff, I'm hiding.

7/24 Game Thread: Twins vs. Sox
QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 09:42 PM) "Stop worrying about the pitching. This offense will never slow down." --- Just about everybody 2 and half weeks ago. I knew the offense would slow down at some point. I was just hoping that by that time the pitching (mainly the starters) would've gotten its act together by now. Other than Garland, that hasn't been anywhere near the case.

7/24 Game Thread: Twins vs. Sox
QUOTE(CYGarland @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 09:42 PM) Jose NEEDS to step up BIG time tomorrow, and pitch a CG SHO. And even then we have to find a way to score a run against Santana. That's why tonight's game was so huge. It's almost an automatic loss when we see Johan.

7/24 Game Thread: Twins vs. Sox
QUOTE(CYGarland @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 09:39 PM) And the Twins are pouring it on. I'd bring in Tracey here, and save Riske for tomorrow. This game iz OVA Tracey got sent down. I'm now starting to understand why the Red Sox traded Riske.
