  1. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 04:28 PM) Two moves, Kenny. a.) Brady Clark. Gives us a real platoon partner for Podsednik, and it guarantees Mackowiak won't see much CF in the second half. They have Gross and Hall who can play CF, and Hart (?) can fill in the corners. They could use pitching, so maybe Phillips/Haeger plus a lesser prospect could get it done? b.) Yorvit Torrealba. Gives us a legit backup catcher, someone who can mash lefties a bit better than The Widge (not my idea -- his). Make Widger, a 'vet' who was on last year's ballclub but isn't doing jack this year, the sacrificial lamb. They have Closser already, so Torrealba is going to get limited ABs. I assume that Colorado needs pitching -- would a knuckler fit well in Coors? I doubt Kenny's trading a top prospect for a reliever. I just don't think that's the way he 'rolls'... Well, no, I think I recall you adamantly (sp?) telling me how Ross had no chance at making the team. My point is, you seem to throw around these guarantees so freely ("this divisional race is over!"), yet never see you eat 'yer crow when you're wrong. Interesting. I don't know much about Torrealba. How's his defense? Just curious.
  2. What exactly would moving Anderson up in the lineup accomplish? The guy is raking right now. Don't mess with him.
  3. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 04:33 PM) We claim he's done nothing this year because he doesn't steal or do anything well. He was clearly a better base stealer last year, and was the spark to the offense. He also played decent defense last year. I'm not even gonna get into another Podsednik debate. Will just agree to disagree on his value to this team.
  4. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 04:31 PM) Hell one of my favorite posters on this site is Fathom. He sees things a little differently than me but at the same time the posts he make are very intelligent and give you the other side of the spectrum. I agree. Fathom can get a little ridiculius at times. But overall, he's a very good poster. But some of the guys in here, and I'm not gonna name names (Milkman) need to chill out.
  5. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 04:29 PM) I just ignore the game threads once the jackassery starts up, and lately I've been spending way less time in the Pale Hose Talk forum. What's chat like anyway? I never go in there. It can't possibly be as bad as the game threads, could it?
  6. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 04:27 PM) A lot of people have been on this site and helped to make it successful, Ribbie was one of them. And he makes a great point. I hardly look in the main soxtalk board anymore myself. Because I can't seem to find much worth talking about or reading without having to sort through hundreds of posts about how much someone hates Chris Widger or Jay Mariotti or Freddy Garcia. Don't forget about how worthless Scott Podsednik is, and how he's done nothing for this team in the year and a half he's been here.
  7. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 04:23 PM) Someone makes a whole goodbye thread crying about how he can't bear to see another negative post -- and it's everyone else that's "that damn emotional"? Lol. All the dude was saying is that he's gonna take a break from this board. I don't blame him. I would do the same thing if I wasn't so addicted to this place. I'm just gonna start ignoring certain posters.
  8. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 04:13 PM) Stick around Ribbie...sure a few people are over-reacting, even if it is the vast majority. We are a good team and if they don't accomplish things this year it will be a dissapointment but hey we won last year and if things don't work out this year (and the odds of us winning it all, while they are good, they are obviously far from a lock) I'm confident in our staff to make thing even better for next year. I don't get it. We get a great pitching performance and aside from one inning in this series it was 3 strong pitching performances. We may have lost the series but I'm a lot less concerned today than I was entering the series, I'll tell you that much. The Tigers are a good team and the Twins/Yanks are good teams that are close to us in the Wild Card, but the Sox still have all the talent in the world and i'm not going to let a little losing streak discourage me. If people want to be ridiculous and put up choke avatars and the such fine, but I don't see how the hell this team is choking. They play hard and they never quit, if they fail they fail, but it won't be because our team didn't try. Preach, Jason. And I think you make a damn good point in that we should be very encouraged by our starting pitching in this series. Other than one inning, we shut down a very good offense for 3 games. Will it continue? Will obviously find out. But it's something to build on.
  9. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 04:00 PM) I disagree. Why make a huge post about you leaving? It wouldnt effect my day either way. Later. The post was about a lot more than him stating he's leaving. I love Soxtalk. This site has been a big part of my life (I hate to admit that) over the last 4 years. But it hasn't been very enjoyable of late. The constant gloom and doom posts by various posters is really starting to get old. Why is it so hard for some people to keep a damn perspective? No team's season ends because of a 2-7 stretch in July. What's even more frustrating is that we saw this same movie last year. No matter what's happened the last couple weeks, this is nothing compared to what almost happened last year. Are there legitimate concerns? Most definitely. I had some concerns even before the Boston series. This is a message board. And one of the great things about message boards is it allows you to share your opinions, express yourself, ect. I don't have a problem with that. But to deem the season over after every slump? Just stop watching the damn team if you're that damn emotional.
  10. I made a promise to myself before the season started that I would stay strong and believe in this team no matter what kinda slump/slumps we had during the year. I, like many last year, doubted the hell out of this team. I was an absolute mess during the September slide. When we lost that game to the Twins, and saw our lead fall to 1 1/2 games, I was down for the count. I thought it was over. I thought we were gonna go down as the biggest chokers in modern sports history. Except that never happened. The team fought there way out of what could have been an epic disaster of a season and went on to have one of the most fabulous playoffs runs in sports history. Am I saying we should expect that again? Of course not. But I do believe that Kenny, Ozzie, and the rest of these guys deserve every benefit of the doubt until, quite frankly, they're eliminated. And if turns out that this team isn't good enough -- so be it. Atleast we can say we saw our guys take it home once. We're all very lucky and fortunate. What do you think Cubs fans would do just to see their team bring it home one f***in' time?
  11. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 03:45 PM) I have come to the conclusion on the direction that Soxtalk will be heading...down. I do not mean the site in itself. The admins are awesome and the site is great and a pleasure to navigate. But the attitude of the posters here. My gosh. This is an incredibly negative place that I have no interest of reading. Choke avatars "The Season is over" Everyone from struggling players to great players like Crede and Thome and even Guillen getting the full brunt of insults and pathetic, illogical conclusions to their abilities. Enough is enough. My God we won the World Series last year and so many people are still ready to jump ship and declare the season done. Good. Go. Join another fanclub or site and leave. Is there some kind of emotional high you receive from predicting doom? I feel that so many here WANT the White Sox to lose just so they can be proven correct. If that's what you want, wow. Great fan you are. Now, am I saying we should be blindly optimistic and not realize what our team is doing right now? HELL NO. Our pitching has not been as good as last year, we have been horrible at bunting and doing some small things. But we are FAR from done in the division. Why??? Bacause we have good players...if you didn't notice we won the F'in World Series last year. Good players have a history of pulling themselves out of slumps. See last September when so many of the same people declared Cleveland the champs! But there you were crow in hand cheering on the champs when the season was done. These same players turned it around. Plus its friggin JULY!! Now if this was September...yes, I'd be more worried because time and history would not be on our side. But for now I will enjoy MY TEAM a team I have rooted and cried for since I was a boy. I team I screamed for last October. A team that made our dreams come true. But since so many wish to create nightmares...I am choosing not to read them anymore. There is no more insight; no more logical discussions that set Soxtalk above the rest. Its all negative, extreme reactionary posts from now on, I guess. Thank you for the good time and I will be back come fall when we are in happier moods...hopefully. Toodles, Ribbie Excellent post!
  12. QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 02:16 AM) I think we will. Javy never wanted to pitch for Zona anyways and that was evident by his results. Which is why the trade pissed me off when it first happened. Arizona just about had to trade him. Arizona raped us when you consider what we had to give up for a guy they were gonna have to trade regardless.
  13. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 04:48 PM) We've seen Freddy against the Red Sox and Yankees. I wouldn't mind seeing him against the White Sox. I think its not a lock that Freddy outperforms Trachsel, so I see absolutely no reason Minaya would want to overpay for mediocrity. You do realize Freddy has dominated NL teams this year, right? He would significantly upgrade the Mets' rotation.
  14. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 01:47 PM) You're most likely going to be upset then, as his trade value is at an all-time low now. Not really. There's a boatload of NL teams that are interested. He would dominate in the NL.
  15. Here's my favorite part of the article. This is why I never doubted for a second that the Thome trade would work out. I knew there was no way in hell Kenny would make a deal of that magnitude without being close to 100% sure he was healthy.
  16. Anybody hear KW on the Score yesterday morning? He basically said he would be a failure if he's not able to bring another title to the Southside. Can you believe that s***? That, my friends, is a guy who truly cares.
  17. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 01:44 AM) 2.5 months of suckage sure is a long period of time for people to overreact to. Except that it didn't take anywhere near that long for people to overreact. It basically took his first two starts in April.
  18. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 01:32 AM) :rolly I won't waste my time. Won't waste your time on what?
  19. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 01:03 AM) Yeah, people rightfully criticise players when they're sucking then when they finally turn it around (hopefully) they let up and start to rightfully praise them. It's not like people call for his head then when he stops sucking act like they didn't. Yeah, I ripped Garland at the beginning as did a bunch of other people, now he's pitching well and I'm glad, he deserves praise for that which his getting from me. I'm not just going to hate on the guy for when he's going good because I hated on him when he was sucking. There's a difference between constructive criticism and ridiculous, knee-jerk overreaction to a guy who's struggling at a particular time. Unfortunately, we get WAY more of the latter around here.
  20. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 01:17 AM) His record that year and his record this season is not a good comparison. Not only are they different but his era is worse right now this season Plus, he had the worse defense I've ever seen behind him that year which caused him to have a ton of unearned runs. It was so bad I'm still remembering it off the top of my head. Mark had a 4.24 era the first-half of '03. That includes the month of May in which he went 0-4 with an era over 7. Not much difference at all.
  21. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 11:32 PM) Look at all the f***ing supporters. Someone please bump the I hate Garland threads. Rock, you should be aware of how this board works by now.
  22. It's gonna take a lot more than 3 rough starts for me to think Mark is suffering from some kinda innings abuse. Just think 2003. What he start that year? 3-10? Ended up 14-14.
  23. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 02:34 PM) BUMP Some of these predictions are funny to read 3 months later. Nobody knew Liriano would be this sick. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 02:37 PM) To me, the only thing that is funny is how much the Tribe has underachieved. They had a ton of potential coming into the season, and have been brutal. Easily the most dissapointing team to this point.
  24. I don't like this deal. I have no problem trading Smith, as he would've had trouble getting any consistent PT on a team that's already loaded on the perimiter, but I think we could've gotten a little more than we did.
  25. This little s***ty 6-game streak we're on is nothing compared to what I went through last year during the September slide. This team deserves every benefit of the doubt until further notice.
