White Sox close to acquiring Soriano
QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 05:28 PM) I'd trade Pods or Anderson for Soriano but I will be VERY upset if we trade Brandon Mac under any circumstances Anderson is going nowhere.

White Sox close to acquiring Soriano
QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 05:39 PM) Soriano has 70 or someodd RBIs while batting leadoff for a NL team (pitcher ahead of him). I assume he feels most comfortable there. Keep him there. ^^^

Tracey Optioned to Charlotte
QUOTE(bmags @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 05:29 PM) poor guy... He certainly hasn't done much to justify keeping him up with the Sox. Although I think he'll be good down the road.

Sox get Mike MacDougal for Tyler Lumsden and Daniel Cortes
QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 05:35 PM) lets just hope he stays healthy. a good thing is that hes only pitched 4 innings this year so hes fresh and ready to go. That's the key. But I can't help but get a little tingly feeling inside when I think about Thornton, MacDougal and Jenks at the back end of our bullpen. That's some serious, serious heat there.

Sox get Mike MacDougal for Tyler Lumsden and Daniel Cortes
Well, assuming MacDougal is healhy, I like this deal. Let's face it, we knew Kenny was probably gonna have to overpay a little if he was gonna be able to pull off a deal with an AL team -- even the Royals. MacDougal has an excellent arm and nasty stuff. He's proven (when healthy) to be pretty good. Who knows what his save total would've looked like last year if he wasn't closing games for the Royals. It's not like they have a lead after 8 all that often.

White Sox close to acquiring Soriano
Man, I promised myself after last year's trade deadline debacle that I would never buy into the trade hype again. It's getting harder and harder to keep that promise. Next Monday can't get here soon enough.

Sox get Mike MacDougal for Tyler Lumsden and Daniel Cortes
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:39 PM) Question for those in the know: What kind of injury problems has MacDougal had? Have they been more flukish like injuries? Or have they been the kind that can cut short a guy's career? I assume Kenny and his crew have done their homework on the guy. They must feel his injury past is nothing to be too terribly concerned about for them to make this deal. Anybody?

White Sox close to acquiring Soriano
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 05:10 PM) FWIW, I just asked the source about the information again, and he was sure of the Soriano jersey statement, but wasn't 100 pct sure about the no-trade clause. Thanks for the info, Fathom.

White Sox close to acquiring Soriano
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 05:02 PM) I think what will wind up happening is the Nats will work as hard as they can to get the best offer possible. They know they won't be keeping him, and even 2 decent prospects will be better than 2 sandwich picks for Soriano leaving in November. They will take whatever they can get. Well, if not for Zimmerman, I could see us possibly having enough to swing a deal. But they don't need Fields. We just traded our best left-handed pitching prospect. They're not getting Bmac. What the heck do we have that they would want?

White Sox close to acquiring Soriano
I just don't see how the Nationals would make a trade of this magnitude without getting McCarthy back. If that's what it takes, forget about it! Soriano is a luxury, not a need.

White Sox close to acquiring Soriano
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:48 PM) Washington has a hell of a block for Fields at third too, unless Zimmerman has fallen off and I didn't know it. Nope, Zimmerman is having a fine year.

White Sox close to acquiring Soriano
QUOTE(rcpweiner @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:46 PM) If not, is he worth the rental? I'd still say yes. (Also, I think Pods/Fields for Soriano probably isn't enough to get the deal done. Maybe another prospect or two ...) I wouldn't do it. Fields is our top offensive prospect. I wouldn't move him for two months of Soriano. And it's no guarantee we even get to the playoffs.

QUOTE(rcpweiner @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:43 PM) Well then ... Pods and Fields for Soriano? Yes or no, everybody? YES! That is if we can sign him to an extension.

White Sox close to acquiring Soriano
QUOTE(kevo880 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:18 PM) who would we want from seattle that they would be willing to part with since they are in the hunt? Rafeal Soriano would sure look good in a Sox Uniform. Unlikely now that we've traded for MacDougal.

White Sox close to acquiring Soriano
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 03:21 PM) I like McCarthy a lot, but he's nowhere near the caliber of those guys. I didn't say he was. I said he will be to us what those guys are to their respective teams.

White Sox close to acquiring Soriano
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 02:27 PM) Does anyone actually think that Williams would be stupid enough to ship out McCarthy in this? Yes, I do. Kenny wants another title BADLY. I'll be sick if we lose Brandon. He's gonna be to us what Liriano, Verlander and Weaver have been to the Twins, Tigers, and Angels.

Could Kenny make a huge deal?
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 02:33 AM) Not that I think we will... but if we trade for A-Rod in the off-season id hope it wasnt for Crede. Hell... the yankees only gave up soriano and a single a prospect.. and that was with A-Rod being the best player in the AL easily and arguably the best player in the majors..... Now all the yanks would have to do is include the Rangers money but the difference is now A-Rod is arguably the biggest head-case in the majors and is getting booed out of his park. Id think something along the lines of Uribe, maybe Garcia, and a low prospect if that would be more than enough. I wish you were the Yankee GM.

Could Kenny make a huge deal?
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 10:30 PM) I can't think of a reason why we'd need a big trade. Honestly, aside from a few small pieces, I don't see this team needing anything. The starters that are struggling (Vazquez, Garcia) can't easily be replaced, since their trade value is low right now. And what would we get back that we need? What weak spots do we have, really, outside of one or two bullpen spots and a backup C? Exactly. We just need a couple of guys to start performing like they should. We most definitely need another arm in the 'pen; a right-handed setup man.

Widger Reaction
The bolded part is what I was talking about earlier. If you don't think a guy is good, and you wanna upgrade, fine. But to make it out like the dude was lazy and didn't care? I don't agree with that at all.

Your Favorite Pitcher (of your lifetime)
I'm with those who say Pedro. In his prime, he had no peer. It was him and whoever. I compare it to Michael Jordan in his heyday. You knew he was just that much better than everybody else.
