QUOTE(Darth Saluki @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 04:14 PM) I'm liking the path of my SIU Salukis. An 11 was a shock for me, but Bracketology had them at a 8/9 for the last two weeks...I didn't want a #1 in the 2nd round. On the game....If SIU keep WVU at 65 pts then SIU should win. SIU will win the rebounding war, just by how many is the questions. Hopefull its a lot b/c that means WVU is missing on the 3s. The Dawgs will step out and defend against Pittsnogle and hopefully he'll go back home crying along side his child that the networks so love to put on the screen. Go SIU! Go Salukis! WVU----- Not another Saluki fan. Welcome to the board. Typing in green means sarcasm by the way.

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 05:08 PM) i'm interested in your choice of a sampling size. you chose the past nine games. over that stretch, unc had a 6-3 record and illinois was 5-4. if you go to 10 games, both teams are 6-4. choosing a representative sample that just fits your argument isn't that sound. and let's look at those last 10 games. in their final 10 games unc beat two tournament teams. they beat nc state and duke. in their final 10 games illinois beat four tournament teams - michigan state, wisconsin, indiana and iowa. what is more impressive? so unc looked better in their tournament. one game better. they beat 15-14 virginia. illinois did not look great against michigan state, but who is better - msu or virginia. so the finish stronger argument isn't that great, imo. what about the whole season. illinois had more wins against the rpi top 50. they had a better record than the heels. they finished in the same league position in a league generally considered stronger. they beat unc AT unc. no way unc deserved a better seed. none. but that's it. it's quitting time and after today no more b****ing. wah. Doctor, I might have to call the cops on you. You're straight raping this dude.

Can Paulino Reynoso = Damaso Marte?
QUOTE(RME JICO @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 01:22 AM) I am just wondering if the Sox would consider giving both of them roster spots if they both pitch well for the remainder of ST, considering what happened to Hermie. I think Kenny is gonna go out and try to fine atleast one proven guy. As far as in-house canidates go, it's possible that both Lopez/Reynoso could make the team. Like you said, they would both have to pitch like they currently have been the rest of the spring. I think it would be just one of them, though.

Can Paulino Reynoso = Damaso Marte?
QUOTE(RME JICO @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 01:10 AM) Reynoso has looked pretty good this spring. Looks like he has taken over as the leading candidate for the Lefty job. IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA WHIP P Reynoso 5 2 0 0 3 6 0 0.00 1.00 J Lopez 6 8 4 4 1 7 0 6.00 1.50 S Tracey 4 8 3 3 2 2 0 6.75 2.50 A Almanza 4 1/3 6 5 5 1 4 0 10.39 1.62 T Redding 4 1/3 10 5 5 3 2 1 10.39 3.00 I still think it's Lopez at this point. Reynoso is right there, though.

New Site: TalkBears.com
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 12:31 AM) Actually I'm thinking a college board may be the next venture (after the Bulls site). Both Notre Dame and Illini would be solid starts. Do you guys know if there is a lot of competition in that regards? Ie, are there good Illini or Fighting Irish sites out there? I don't know about ND, but here's a good Illini board I visit quite frequently. http://www.illinoisloyalty.com/

Playoff Fights
QUOTE(iWiN4PreP @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 10:33 PM) was it yanks vs. red sox? That's the most recent one I can think of. As for the last Sox fight, I'm pretty sure it in was in 2000 against the Tigers.

Hermanson update, not much news but...
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 11:43 PM) For some reason, I've thought all along Borchard would be involved in a deal with another prospect to the Pirates for Salomon Torres. Only Jim Hendry is capable of fleecing the Pirates to that degree.

Hermanson update, not much news but...
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 10:05 PM) Cotts/Politte/Jenks/McCarthy isn't enough. Certaintly when you add Lopez, Renoso, or whomever else our bullpen doesn't appear much deeper. If I were Williams, I wouldn't assume Hermanson's back regains its strength. I said earlier in another thread, I'd honestly be open to trading Contreras if what the Sox received in return was no less than a quality reliever AND a decent starting pitching prospect. The reliever doesn't have to be top notch if an acquired starting pitching prospect is highly touted. Now, we'd essentially be in a similar situation concerning a bullpen void of two arms, but the difference is the acquired bullpen arm will have experience. McCarthy won't be out of his comfort zone. If an injury occurs in the rotation which requires help beyond several starts, the SP prospect obtained could be filled in. Remember, if one of our pitchers goes down and McCarthy is bumped, it's not going to be pretty if he's a valuable component of the bullpen. Now you'd essentially have our regulars (Jenks/Politte/Cotts) and whomever else. Good post. I just can't see them trading Jose now. If this were January or even February, I could see it. But dude has looked just so spectacular this spring. He really looks primed to obliterate the AL this year. The Sox would have to be completely overwhelmed to trade him at this point.

Hermanson update, not much news but...
QUOTE(iWiN4PreP @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 09:56 PM) Who do you think we'd get as relief help? In a trade some-one good? Or out of free agency / minor leagues? any rumors? More than likely a trade. Although I think they're gonna look for in-house replacements for the time being. If Kenny can pull off a trade before the season starts that nets us a solid reliever, I'll officially give him the title of best f***in gm on the planet.

Why do I keep hearing about Boone Logan? Dude can finish the spring with a 0.00 era and still have no chance in hell of making the team.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 09:40 PM) Here's a funny tidbit from my bracket: I have UNC going further this year then I had them going last year. I've got them in the elite 8. Where do you have them?

Your Final 4
I just finished my first bracket. I've got Uconn, Memphis, Texas and Boston College in the final 4. I know some will think I'm nuts for having BC as one of my picks. I was just so impressed with their play in the ACC tourney. Their bigs are flat awesome, their guards are solid, and they cause a lot of problems for teams defensively.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 09:02 PM) Forgot to answer your last two quotes. As for UCLA, I would take Afflalo, Farmar, and Cedric Bozeman over the Villanova quartet, especially with the eye injury. I like Horner, Henderson and Haluska over Paulus/Dockery/Redick because the Iowa triplet is much more interchangible than the Duke trio. Redick is the one man show, and if he's having an off night, the other two guys don't have the scoring ability to keep their team afloat without Shelden and McRoberts dominating inside. WHOA! I like the UCLA guards. But better than Nova's? I gotta disagree with you there.

BMac role change?
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 08:46 PM) Politte and Cotts should stay in setup. McCarthy should have the El Duque role from the postseason and also spot start when needed. But we still need someone to replace Hermanson, IMO. I didn't think he was going to have a very good season when I thought he was healthy. Now that I know he's not even close to 100%, we definately need another arm. I agree with all of this. So what are we debating?

Sox vs Angels 3/12
QUOTE(quickman @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 08:45 PM) ok its funny but I think we agree. I do think if hermy is injured then kenny will go to work fast. just my opinion. I have no doubt in my mind Kenny is working the phones as we speak.

Sox vs Angels 3/12
QUOTE(quickman @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 08:36 PM) Well I never said the season is a loss, but take the conversation the way you want to. I think we need a pitcher or two by april, I also think our minor league pitching prospects are horrible and will not help. I do think a good solid start is important to win this division. I think our starting pitching is the best in the game and will keep us in games, but the bullpen shut things down last year and that is a question mark NOW. Its really the only question mark. I think its better to address these things early rather than later. I think KW missed this opportunity earlier this year and is now finding out the cost. We've got 5 guys that can consistently get you into the 7th or 8th inning. From that point on, Bmac, Politte, Cotts and Jenks take over. So I think will be alright atleast to start the season. Can you get away with that for a whole season? Not a chance. If Kenny's able to swing a deal in the next week or so, great. I just wouldn't expect it.

BMac role change?
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 08:33 PM) There's no panic mode involved. Hermanson was actually PULLED from today's game due to some sort of injury. He was also throwing weak meatballs. I don't think it's considered panic mode when a guy has been throwing horribly all ST and looks to be injured. The question was should Bmac move to the role as set-up man. Did Cotts and Politte die just recently?

Sox vs Angels 3/12
QUOTE(quickman @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 08:27 PM) Well I disagree, especially with the amount of innings these guys pitched last year. For the most part starting pitchers do not go deep especially in april and the early part of may, but hey if YOU believe we are ok, then s*** I am convinced. You have completely changed my mind. I say we run with what we have. We can fill in the gaps with our minor leaguers. Jenks will be just fine, closing all year, Hermanson won't be hurt, Politte will have the same year as last year, and cotts will have no problems pitching everyday, not to mention Mcarthy pitching in the pen for the first time. No problem. You are right. No need to be a dick. I'm just being realistic. Bullpen help is not easy to find. And I seriously doubt will be able to make a move in the next 3 weeks. I just don't think the season is lost if we're not able to make a move before that time is up. If you do, that's on you.
