  1. They overpaid, but he upgrades their pitching staff. He should do quite well in that ballpark.
  2. I like the trade. Mack gives us everything we need and more in the utility role, and i'm certain Kenny will bring in another reliever, hopefully Myers, very soon.
  3. Just glad the Flubs didn't get either of them.
  4. QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 11:38 AM) Those 2 pitchers Pinto, Nolasco are very good pitching prospects I seen them both too many times this year. Pinto is a 22 year old lefty with some nasty stuff he was started in AAA this season and struggled he was promoted to soon but when he came back down to West Tenn the first week of May he was awesome the rest of the season he led the SL in K's per 9 innings at 11.62. Nolasco also has good stuff led the SL in K's with 173 he is only 23 and has never seen AAA ball yet. The 2 combined in the SL were 24-6 2.75 ERA and 301 K's. So this deal actually has the chance to be great for the Marlins Thanks, Bham. I was just gonna post something similiar to this before I saw your post. The Cubs hardly fleeced the Marlins.
  5. Now the Juan Pierre threads can be officially closed.
  6. No thanks. Brian Anderson is gonna be our cf. People need to let it go.
  7. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 10:42 PM) From NSBB Did he mean the Cubs best offer? Or the best offer the the Marlins have gotten overall?
  8. QUOTE(THEWOOD @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 06:12 PM) Vince Young, no big game experience? Whoever said that doesnt watch college football. What about this year against OSU? Biggest game of the year, everyone said whoever won that game would be playing in the Rose Bowl, I think thats a big game. I think you misread what Wite said.
  9. I hope Texas wins, but I think Leinhart and Bush will be too much.
  10. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 10:04 PM) I put some of that blame on Baker, however, some of those trips were totally fluke injuries (getting smacked by a baseball, etc.). That said he puts little stress on his arm and the only reason he's had any of the problems he's had is because Baker is a total dips*** when it comes to managing his staff (I was busy saying this the year the Cubs were a few outs shy of making the world series and I guaranteed that half of there rotation would end up being on the DL most of the season). He still pitched 166 innings this past year and has a 200 inning season under his belt. Simply put, if we think AJ Burnett just signed a fat contract, imagine what Prior would get on the FA market. I'm thinking 13-15 mill a year for 5. But if the Phils get Prior they would be getting him at well under market value while if Abreu were to become a FA today he'd probably make right around what he's getting now (if not a little less). Plus pitching >>> hitting and Prior is not even in his prime (Abreu is right at the end of his prime). I can agree with this. I'm just glad the Phillies aren't being stupid. They shouldn't even think of dealing Abreu unless it's for Prior or Zambrano.
  11. I hear the Steelers O-line has had a lot of trouble generating consistent pass protection for Big Ben. Brown and Ogunleye should dominate.
  12. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 05:03 PM) That wasn't directed at you. I know you're not a Bears homer. I guess that we'll just have to agree to disagree. And no, once I make up my mind about a guy's skillset, I rarely ever get swayed by numbers or anything like that. Based on what I've seen from Nate, I have no reason to believe otherwise. I don't think that he's a Top 75 CB in this league when it comes to coverage, but that's just my opinion based on what I've seen. Two words: Mike Richardson Top 75? C'mon now.
  13. QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 09:50 PM) Well it's our job as fans to doubt the moves of the team, otherwise what fun could we have!... Anyways, I think it's a risky move to put him there, but hell, I don't know what Uribe is going to show up--the disciplined and dangerous Uribe that we saw in late August through October, or the hacking, free-swining Juan we saw for most of 2005, and throughout his career? I'd have to bet Juan falls somewhere in the middle, unless he really works hard to become more disciplined and take more walks while striking out less. Kenny and Ozzie gave me my dream. A WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP. They could put Jeckle in the 2-hole and I wouldn't doubt them.
  14. Welcome to Soxtalk. I hope all I get for X-mas is Sox gear.
  15. This is wondefrul news. I want no part of Frank in the our division. I don't care that this makes it tougher to beat Oakland. We only play them 6-9 times a year.
  16. Over 100 million spent on Ryan and Burnett? What a crummy market it's become for pitchers.
  17. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 09:40 PM) I cant see how people think trading a guy like Prior at his age would be a good idea for an older more expensive hitter. First off pitching >>> hitting....... Unless it was like Bonds when he was 31 or something like that its a bad trade. The Cubs won't do it. The Phillies just let them know that it's gonna take a little bit more than some of their overhyped prospects to get Abreu.
  18. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 09:27 PM) A healthy Prior (and I see no reason to believe he'll be an injury prone pitcher; I could be wrong though) for an older, highly paid Abreu would be absolutely foolish. Prior can be a perennial (and has already proven he can be) Cy Young candidate, plus he makes a whole lot less money. That doesn't even go on to mention that he's quite a bit younger (just getting ready to enter his prime) and well a really good pitcher is a lot tougher to find than a good hitter. You see no reason to believe he'll be an injury prone pitcher? 4 or 5 trips to the DL before the age of 25 is plenty of reason.
  19. I'm kinda uneasy about Uribe in the 2 spot, but like I said after we won it all, I will never, ever, ever, ever doubt KW or Ozzie again. Not that they need it, but they've got a free pass for life from me.
  20. I think it's a fair trade considering Prior has been on the DL like 5 times already. I don't think the Cubs will go for it anyway. I don't see why they even asked to tell you the truth. What garbage are their team outside of Prior or Zambrano could Philly possibly want?
  21. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 05:39 PM) He'll be back. And I'm still not kidding. I hope not. That would mean something real bad happened to Jim Thome.
  22. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 07:55 PM) Oh ya, cause Clemens wasn't pitching in a total hitters park? What Clemens did was downright amazing last year. The guy pitched his ass off, there is nothing you can do but tip your cap. Why not give the man the credit he's deserved. I laugh at how you guys think guys like Clemens would have been mediocre if he were in the AL last year. Let me guess, so would Chris Carpenter. Hell, I didn't see Curt Schilling's ERA skyrocket when he went from the NL to AL (from the Dbacks to the RedSox) and not only did he go to the AL, but he went to pitch in Boston (a hitters park). Clemens era from 1999-2003 was 4.60, 3,70, 3.51, 4.35 and 3.91. So, yes, Clemens did benefit from being in the NL. That doesn't mean he's not great. Hell, he's the best of this era, IMO. But it's silly to think he could maintain a 1.87 era or whatever it was in the AL.
  23. QUOTE(Felix @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 09:10 PM) The only reason I don't think this is that realistic a rumor is that KW has stated he's basically done in terms of bigs moves for the offseason. It could just be a plan so he can fly under the radar, but still. (this might have been posted inbetween the first and 8th page.. I'm too lazy to read all of the posts speculating on who the Sox would have to give up etc.) KW wouldn't go public about it one way or the other. Remember the Visquel Fiasco last year?
