QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 12, 2015 -> 01:43 AM) I'd be all for trading 2-3 of our lefties and bringing Mark back. Or like I said make Danks a lefty reliever. Teams with four lefty starters DO NOT win pennants.

I want everyone's one FA/Trade prediction
hogan873 replied to Bigsoxhurt35's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't see the Sox grabbing one of the big FAs (Cespedes, Upton...). I believe any signings will be small, and they will go the trade route to fill some holes. My prediction is Alexei on a one or two year deal for around $7MM a year. Otherwise, I could see a Buehrle signing. -
Walking Dead News: Jeffrey Dean Morgan cast as Negan, rumored to make an appearance toward the end of this season.

Not a celebrity by definition, but former Sox minor leaguer (and Braves pitcher) Tommy Hanson died suddenly yesterday. He was only 29.

QUOTE (Ballz-n-Strikes @ Nov 5, 2015 -> 12:38 AM) So he planned all that? Was that the note next to his body and missing gun: "I'm Dead. It was 2 white guys and a black. Notice my missing gun!" GTFO. In my area, we're trying to figure out the same thing. http://parsippanyfocus.com/2015/05/28/brea...ommits-suicide/ Of course, not Illinois, so not a complete clusterf*ck. Hard to find any news. Rich was a 19 year veteran, a Seargent, dead, apparent suicide.... beautiful wife (personal friend of wife; didn't really know the cop) and kids.... Maybe...don't be so judgmental, ok? Who knows what is going on with these guys.... You apparently haven't read anything about this case or haven't seen the news. He did plan all of it, very methodically. He was a criminal who was stealing money from a youth organization, and text messages to accomplices shows that he was considering killing someone who was suspicious of him. Then he came up with an elaborate plan to make it look like he was killed. He was a scumbag criminal, and it now sounds like his wife and son were in on everything with him. So, I think it's safe to say no one is being judgmental...just listening and reading about the story as it unfolds.

QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 1, 2015 -> 11:48 AM) Anyone watch Ash vs Evil Dead? Have it on DVR. It is fantastic. Some truly terrifying moments and plenty of humor. I would say the tone is similar to Evil Dead 2.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 12:11 PM) If his name wasn't Mark Buehrle it wouldn't even be discussed. Maybe, but because his name is Mark Buehrle, the Sox know what kind of player (and guy) they would be getting by signing him. So, you're right to say that he's being talked about because of who he is, but by no means is that the only reason.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 11:56 AM) It isn't nostalgia if he can still pitch. It seems as if he can still pitch. If he were to be signed for a year or two for a moderate deal, I'd be okay with it. He's not going to be a #1 or #2 starter...he'd more likely to be a #4 or #5 guy. But he still got very close to 200 innings last year, so there's really no reason to think he couldn't pitch 175+ next year. As a 5th starter innings-eater, that would be perfect. All that being said, though, if the Sox were to sign him and trade Q, the return for Q would have to fill one of the crucial holes.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 26, 2015 -> 01:09 PM) That was awesome.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 26, 2015 -> 10:02 AM) Yea, if that turns out to be some sort of a dream sequence I will be extremely disappointed. If it turns out to not be true (and based on a lot of internet chatter, it seems like it is not true),

I don't see Eaton being traded. There's really been no talk of that, and it sounds like this was just a couple guys spitballing. That being said, I hope the Sox find a way to get Thompson into the starting lineup. I imagine they will be looking pretty hard to deal Garcia.

In early December, my wife and I along with some other couples are doing one of those touristy holiday trolley rides in Chicago. We're looking for a good place to have dinner beforehand. The tour starts and ends at the John Hancock Building. There will be 8 of us, and we'd probably be looking to eat around 4:00 - 4:30. Not looking to spend a lot of money, and we definitely wouldn't be comfortable in a fancy place anyway. Just looking for a place with good food, good drinks, and a comfortable atmosphere. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

The premiere of Fargo was pretty solid. Jesse Plemons (aka Landry, aka Todd Alquist) looks like he put on a lot of weight...for the role? And did anyone else see the preview of Bruce Campbell as Ronald Reagan?

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 11:55 AM) Jason Heyward is probably going to get a huge deal, but I would love for the Sox to sign him. Just turned 26. Plus offense and plus defense. I don't know why I thought he was older. I agree, though, I'd like to see him on the Sox. But for the money he will most likely be commanding, I don't see it happening.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 12:55 PM) White Sox path to the World Series: 1. Score more runs 2. Give up less runs So simple, I don't know why they haven't tried it. Win more games than you lose.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 08:01 AM) Do you guys not realize how bad Soto got? His last month was terrible. In 35 plate appearances he batted .094 and had an OBP of .147. That was a pretty big departure from where he had been. Overall, he had a decent season. September was definitely an outlier. Neither Flowers nor Soto were very good, but throughout the season Hawk kept pointing out the production from the catcher position. He only spoke about, however, HRs and RBIs. He didn't talk about the fact that neither one was batting north of .230. Long story short, the catcher position needs an upgrade this off season.

QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 06:12 AM) I'll stick with Quantico. It tried to be gritty but it's more cheesy than anything but the mystery has me interested. It's on Sunday night, which is awful so not sure it'll last but it's harmless so I may as well keep watching. I'll also stick with it. I like the dual story line with both focusing on the mystery of the terrorist attack. I highly doubt, however, that the training at Quantico is relaxed with a dorm atmosphere. Overall, though, it's an entertaining hour of TV.

It is nice having a good leadoff guy who can also play a pretty good centerfield. The Sox haven't had a guy like that in a long time. I'd like to see him get better at base stealing so that when he gets on base he can at least be a concern for pitchers. If he can terrorize the pitchers by simply being a threat, it improves the odds that your #2 and #3 hitters will see better pitches (or more bad pitches that lead to walks). Also, I imagine his power numbers will (should) decrease next season. As a leadoff hitter, the Sox need him on base. A few less HRs could translate to a few extra points in his BA.

QUOTE (juddling @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 03:11 PM) Blackish off to a great start for season 2......tackling the N-word and had me laughing my ass off........ That was a great episode. Laurence Fishburne has some of the best lines. "You smell like wide open ass."

Sale needs 11 K's to set Sox single season record
hogan873 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 10:06 AM) That is exactly why I posted this. I found it fascinating. The big difference is stats is that Walsh has a 6.7 H/9 rate, a 1.1 BB/9 rate, and a 0 HR rate. That's right, he gave up 0 homers is 464 innings of work in 1908. Sale checks in at 8.0 H/9, 1.8 BB/9 and 1.0 HR/9. The fact that Walsh threw 464 innings in a season is staggering. I'm sure, however, that the way pitchers pitch today is quite different than they way they pitched 100 years ago. I imagine that there is much more wear and tear on pitchers today. The zero homeruns in 464 innings is interesting. I thought maybe field dimensions would have been one of the factors, but South Side Park (where the Sox played) didn't have wild dimensions. Center field was 420, and the corners were 325/330...although there was a 20 foot wall in right-center field. Throughout the entire 1908 season, the league hit 116 home runs. That's not a lot, obviously, but you might have expected Walsh to give up one or two in 464 innings. Another interesting tidbit about that season was that the league batting average was .239. -
Sox have tried to sign Samardzija to a long term deal
hogan873 replied to Sockin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 21, 2015 -> 11:57 PM) I just don't think he's very good. Let him walk. There is absolutely no reason to do this. I know there's some speculation that he might accept the QO, but that's not as bad as it sounds. If he has figured out what he's been doing wrong, we'll likely see a Samardzija closer to what we thought he would be. He's not as bad a pitcher as we've seen over the past month and a half. That time has certainly been an outlier in his career. It seems more likely, however, that he will not accept the QO and will sign somewhere else for a multi-year deal. The Sox then get a draft pick. Letting him walk is throwing everything away. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 11:56 AM) They should offer the minimum, which would be one year and about $16M. Considering how bad this season has been for him, he may accept and try to rebuild his value.

I'm sure it was mentioned in other threads, but what should the QO to him be?

QUOTE (harkness @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 11:43 PM) I really don't get why people think Abreu is bad at 1st base... This.. to me is where rankings and advanced stats and Bill James crap start to mess with people. Abreu has turned so many double plays.. More than I can remember Konerko every doing (but maybe I just don't remember). LaRoche is supposed to be a gold glove 1b and when he has been in there he has been no better or worse than Abreu. I'm not saying Abreu is a gold glover... but I really fail to see how people think he is bad.. I know his numbers are low but I just can't remember thinking hardly any times where his defense has been a liability or cost us games. I agree for the most part. I think Abreu is as good as Konerko was, except Konerko had an uncanny ability to dig out bad throws. But Abreu has better range. However, I think LaRoche is better. He makes a lot of tough plays looks pretty easy. It's a shame that he can't hit this year, otherwise we probably would see more of him there. But to say Abreu is terrible at first sounds to me like just trying to find something to complain about him. Gold glover? No. Serviceable? Yes.

I'll resurrect this thread. I watched the first hour (I'm old and I have to get up at 5:00) of the 2-hour pilot of The Bastard Executioner. I like it so far. They are introducing a lot of characters, and it's a bit confusing as to who is who. Hopefully that will smooth out as it goes. From what I've seen so far, the show is extremely violent, and they don't shy away from much On a side note, I started watching Mr. Robot on demand. I've only seen the first episode, but I'm sold.
