QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 06:18 AM) 3 of the last 4 years Fowler has put up a better WAR than CarGo. Including CarGo's 40 homer season in 2015. I'd rather the Sox sign Fowler and lose the pick than trade some established prospects for CarGo.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 27, 2016 -> 10:48 AM) I really was irritated during sentencing when the judge said that Averys crimes progressively got worse. The way he framed it, it seemed as if he was including that rape that he was exonerated from in the progression That's how I viewed it, too. At least from what we were told through the show, most of his crimes were relatively minor until the supposed murder. It certainly sounded like the judge was including the rape.

I don't think there's any way the Sox would sign both Fowler and Desmond as both have QOs. I could see either Jackson and Desmond or just Fowler. Desmond could be quite the signing if they were able to get him cheap (which seems fairly likely) and if he bounces back. Lot of ifs, of course, but I think he's he worth the gamble on a two year deal.

Thank you for starting this thread. I don't know a lot about who the Sox have in the minors aside from the obvious, and those are the ones that the Sox may not be willing to part with. I know there are some very knowledgeable people on this board, so I'm interested in hearing what they have to say. I will answer the second part of the post and say that I probably would not be willing to trade Fulmer or Anderson for who would be available right now.

White Sox rotation ranked 6th in the majors

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 26, 2016 -> 07:57 AM) Mets have Colon for insurance too, right? And for consumption of leftover pizza. -
The second episode of The X-Files last night was great. Much like the original run, it was a standalone case while the overall series plot line was referenced. Mulder and Scully easily fell back into their banter, complete with Mulder's dry, sarcastic comments. It's a shame there are only four more episodes. Hopefully they'll bring it back again next season.

I picked Desmond and Jackson. I wouldn't mind Fowler or Jackson, but I think there's any scenario where the Sox sign two guys that would require giving up draft picks. I'd like to see a cheap 2-year deal for Desmond and 2 or 3 year deal for Jackson. I would imagine they could get both those guys for about what they were willing to pay Cespedes per year.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 26, 2016 -> 07:58 AM) I'm surprised and disappointed at the absolute lack of rumors tying the Sox to any of the remaining players on the market by national writers. Yeah, it's frustrating, especially after the (too long) period of time the Sox were rumored to be in on Cespedes. I thought we'd start hearing about Desmond, Fowler, and Jackson rumors, but there's been nothing. Maybe something will happen without much warning...kind of like the Frazier deal.

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jan 25, 2016 -> 09:09 AM) It was great to see new "X-Files" last night. I enjoyed it. It seemed a little rushed to get to the point when the X-Files would be opened again, but with only six episodes, I think they did a good job laying the groundwork. The previews show some intriguing stuff coming up.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 25, 2016 -> 10:37 AM) I saw on twitter that Desmond is projected for 3 zWAR next season with 21 homers by the ZIPS projection. Someone had noted the other day that adding Desmond would give the Sox an infield that could easily produce 100 HRs. If he could be added cheap (and I mean CHEAP), he could be worth the lost draft pick.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 25, 2016 -> 11:19 AM) dang, it is not going to be enuf, even if the yanks are doing a salary dump. i would hope to give offer EJ, Beck and Davidson.... power hitter in the yanks park, that might be enticing. I don't think anyone would want anything to do with Davidson...but you never know. If he's ever traded, it might be in a package like you suggested. But Johnson and Beck might be too much for Gardner, at least from the perspective of the Sox.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 25, 2016 -> 10:45 AM) http://riveraveblues.com/2016/01/recent-fr...gardner-132721/ Article mentions White Sox and if Erik Johnson would be enough for Gardner. If Erik Johnson is enough, I think it would be a good deal. What he's owed over the next couple years would probably be close to what Dexter Fowler would cost. However, I'm not sure the Yankees would think Johnson would be enough.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 02:24 PM) So is the belief that this would only be a 1-year deal? I'd much rather see it be a 2-3 year deal. I agree. If he's going to be relatively cheap, sign him for 2 years with an option for a third.
-
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 12:54 PM) Sox are interested. Okay. Thanks. I could like the idea provided he's cheap. And based on what you've been saying, he could be relatively cheap.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 12:49 PM) Seems like the Sox are really positioning themselves to beat positional averages. There were three middle infielders in all the AL that hit 20 HRs or more in 2015. If the Sox got 40 from Desmond/Lawrie (very possible if both stay healthy) they would likely have the most thunderous middle infield in the AL. Are you saying the Sox are interested in signing him, or is this more of a what if?

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 11:33 AM) Call me crazy but I'm not ready to give up on Avi yet. Cespedes is very inconsistent on offense and may become complacent with a big contract. I would not be surprised at all to see Avi put up numbers similar or better than Cespedes did in 2013 or 2014. Obviously there are still big differences between their defense and base running abilities but if Avi can improve even marginally in both I think he has a shot to be a useful player this year. You're crazy! But seriously, if Garcia ends up being the starting right fielder, he's going to be at a disadvantage with the fans. We (as the fan base) will be expecting him to fail and will probably be extra critical of him because we "could have had Gordon, Cespedes, or Upton". And being extra critical of him wouldn't be fair because it should be the front office we should be criticized. But, we'll also be expecting him to fail because he really hasn't shown that he can tap the purported wealth of talent he has. I'd love to see him succeed, but I think I'd rather see someone else patrolling right field. All of that being said, if the Sox do not sign someone or make a trade, we'll be pissed. And we'll be pissed mainly because we suspected that the Sox were close to getting a better player. We only know what we're told by the media or through a couple of the guys who have sources. Who really knows how serious the Sox are about getting an outfielder.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 08:14 AM) Well, everyone in NY is reporting he's going to be talking to the Mets again today... So we made a three year offer for how much...? $60 million? $55 million? We don't know that the Sox have made a final offer. It was speculation.
-
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 08:01 AM) Three year deals are right up our alley, why wouldn't we be all over this!? If he truly would like to return to the Mets, he would likely choose them over the Sox if both teams offered a 3-year deal. Two days ago, I thought the Sox were in the thick of it at least with negotiations. I'd have to think that the Sox might be moving on to other options by now.
-
QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 07:05 AM) Full no trade clause. Not sure we'd want him because of how much he's owed, but I wonder if he'd be interested in being traded if the Nationals sign Cespedes.
-
Nothing really new has come up since it was reported that the Nationals had offered 5/$100 or so. I would think that if talks had been as serious as we were led to believe we night have heard some more chatter. That being said, if the Nationals truly are the only team willing to go 5 years, they might get the deal done after all. The Sox could be (and should be) still working up some creative ways to sign him. I hope this is over one way or the other tonight.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 02:19 PM) What? Didn't the Sox trade for Danks from the Rangers? Yes, they did.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 10:37 AM) Why? We're all set in the OF.
-
If Cespedes signs elsewhere, how quickly to Fowler and Jackson sign? I would imagine pretty quickly, and one should end up with the Sox.
-
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 10:17 AM) If he signs with the Nats, which fanbase will react worse, Sox or Mets? Mets for sure. If, however, the deal is extremely reasonable, our fan base will explode as well.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 08:45 AM) I really have the feeling the White Sox are the only serious bidders out there. I keep going back to raBBit's post saying that the talks have been creative and options are the sticking point. Leads me to believe that the Sox are sticking to fewer years (I might believe they'll offer four years), and they are haggling over options for an additional year or two. If the tweet saying the Nationals offer is not good is true, then maybe the Sox truly are the only serious bidders. I just hope this nonsense ends soon...like today.
