QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 09:17 AM) No he is not there to "move the runner over". Wasting outs in front of the meat of the order to "move that runner over" is a clown-ball. He is there to get on base. Yes, getting a hit is better than a walk. He is there to get on base so that the meat of the order can drive him in. You want someone athletic there who can run the bases, sure. You're right. The #2 hitter's job is to move the runner(s) over but also to get on base and be driven in by the 3-4-5 hitters. If you're going to use your #2 hitter just to move runners over with little concern for getting on base, just use a pitcher.

A lot of negative talk in this thread. We'll never get this thread to 10 pages to enusre the deal happens if this keeps up. We need to get creative and think of something the Sox can offer Tampa Bay to make this a reality. The weather is out...they're not going to want a month of Chicago weather. Crime rate is out, too. Maybe we send them Hawk?

I thought SOA wrapped up pretty well. There was nothing shocking in the episode. Although I liked how .

QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 08:42 AM) OBP is a component of OPS, which is an Advanced Stat. Aren't we "splitting hairs" here? OBP is about as simple a stat there is. Number of times a player reaches base divided by the number of plate appearances. It's slugging that makes OPS more of an advanced stat.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 08:13 AM) All 150 of our minor leaguers for the 2 of them. Do they still say no? Maybe if the Sox were to buy them a new stadium.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 07:51 AM) How is Longoria anything but a complete fantasy? What could the Sox possibly afford to trade to acquire that caliber of player, signed to a very reasonable contract? This is akin to Red Sox fans speculating about acquiring Sale. See ss2k5's post. Sale or Quintana...or just about all of the Sox's top prospects.
-
What sort of package would the Sox have to give up for Longoria. He's signed through 2022 to a decent but end-loaded deal. He's very affordable for the next few years but gets expensive. What is Tampa Bay looking for?

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 07:35 AM) Bruce is signed for 3 more years, correct? If so, then I think I could part with Montas and Hawkins for Bruce definitely. To me, that just changes draft strategy and I would go college pitcher close to MLB at 8. Under team control for three more years. His contract isn't bad, either. $12MM in 2015, $12.5MM in 2016, and a $13MM team option in 2017.

QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 07:25 AM) pls let me explain my statement. the team looks sweet now. but i am looking at the Chi media contest, the sox now made a great overall and add that last piece, the media will surely keeping looking at the Sox. Fan attendance, more ticket sales, more commercials, more press. that is where i am going with this. Who cares about the media contest. The Sox need to win games in order to boost attendance. This has been discussed (ad nauseum) in countless threads. Even if you wanted to look at a media competition based on what the teams do in the off season, acquiring Jay Bruce doesn't compare to signing Jon Lester. If the Sox put together a winning team, more people will go to the games. It's that simple.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 07:18 AM) Here we go again. Just get something done already. isn't Ackley a free agent anyway? Or no? Im not sure. 2015 is his first arbitration year.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 07:13 AM) mully just said on mullyhanley that there's a report in Tampa that the sox have inquired about Evan longoria. Not sure his availability nor am I sure that we have the assets to get him Longoria would be great. His contract looks okay for the next couple years, and then it balloons toward the end. Still, he's controlled through 2022. The Sox would have to give up a ton to get him.

QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 07:05 AM) with the signing of Lester, now i more incline to get Bruce, only if the sox don't loose Anderson and Montas. a package of Hawkins plus. Lester signing with the Cubs shouldn't affect what the Sox do, but I'd like to see Jay Bruce on the Sox. I think the Sox would have to give up too much for him, though. I don't see a scenario where the Sox wouldn't have to give up Montas, Danish, or Anderson to get him.

I see Dan Uggla is looking for work.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 04:10 PM) 5 years 120 million sound ok? I think that sounds pretty reasonable. It's a lot of money, but Samardzija would be getting that kind of money (maybe more) in free agency after 2015. If the Sox extend him now, there are no fears of this being only a rental. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 03:03 PM) What do you mean, the red sox rotation is gonna be good once they trade Mookie Betts for Sale straight up They can use the cash the White Sox send along with Sale to sign Masterson.

And when Eaton found out. -
Bill Shaikin @BillShaikin White Sox add Samardzija, Robertson, LaRoche, Duke ... no, they're not trading Alexei Ramirez. Dodgers will have to find SS elsewhere.

Rumor: Dodgers / Sox Talking Danks for Crawford
hogan873 replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 11:56 AM) I know Boston made him an offer. Curious to see how that develops. Supposedly it's a multi-year offer. But if another team offers more money on a one year deal, he might want to do that to rebuild his stock. -

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 11:36 AM) Worth watching today w/White Sox ... talks w/Dodgers. They talked Matt Kemp but both Andre Ethier and Carl Crawford fit w/LAD paying $$$. https://twitter.com/philgrogers/status/542365147734360065 I realize all three are owed a lot of money. Which one would be be the best for the Sox, not factoring in money? -

QUOTE (shysocks @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 10:32 AM) And it seems like that thought gained a little traction overnight. We'll see. Rock did say that he thinks the Sox will extend him. Let's hope. -

Kapman reporting trade is official, and KW said the Sox hope to keep Samardzija long term. -
The Red Sox have apparently offered Masterson a multi-year deal.
