There's absolutely no reason to NOT have Peavy pitch this year. It doesn't matter if the Sox are out of it or not. He needs to pitch to feel good about coming back from his ankle injury and the line drive off his elbow. I see no harm in limiting his pitch count, but to shut him down is ridiculous.

I too am surprised that more isn't made of 9/11. I don't necessarily think that it needs to be a holiday, but you don't hear as much as you'd think. I imagine 9/11/11 will be a big deal, being the 10th anniversary. My oldest daughter was 2 weeks old when 9/11 happened. Last year we were watching the special on the History Channel, and she kept saying she can't believe that actually happened. I still feel the same way. It was something so horrible and intense that we tend to almost think it was a movie...maybe to deal with the fact that something so terrible can actually happen.

My fear is that the season will come down to the last six games against Detroit. If we go into that stretch less than 6 games back it's going to be extremely stressful, and I will have to consume more beer. For excitement purposes it would be awesome. But just imagine the Sox taking a huge dump when it really matters (you know, like they've done several times already). We can't forget what JD has done for the Sox. World Series MVP...need we say more. But, there's is definitely something wrong. He looks uncomfortable at the plate and otherwise disinterested. Even after the emotional 13th inning win last night he looked like he was upset. I want to hope that it's an injury, because I can't believe that he doesn't care.

In it to win it or not, I would really like to see Peavy get a start or two before season's end. He needs to go into the off season with a good feeling that he came back from his injury (and then the elbow knock) and pitched. I would have no problem with limiting his pitch count, but he needs to pitch in a Sox uniform this season.

Perusing this thread I laughed, cringed, frowned, and even belched. If we were to boil down all of the comments and then run the residue through a colander we would come up with this: Joe has always played hard, was above average defensively, below average offensively, and has been plagued by back problems. But the thing that will rise to the top for most of us was that he did some magical things for us in 2005. And for that, we are eternally grateful.

I guess I got my current somewhat through luck. Almost 6 years ago I saw the ad in the paper for this place but had no idea what they did. I was quite unhappy with my job at the time and was just applying everywhere. Turned out that this place was hiring for the start-up of a new plant (making paper towels, bathroom tissue, etc.). I was one of the original 24 people hired, and now there's over 200 employees and growing. I moved up quickly and now manage two production lines. Lots of luck but lots of work, too.

Ugly, ugly game. However, I think Kotsay is making a case for himself to be re-signed next year. I hope so.

I'll shave my head and facial hair (eyebrows included).

It was nice to see the right Sox kick some ass. Kotsay looked good...if he could play like that all the time we wouldn't need Dye. I liked Hudson's movement on the fastball. And Sweaty Freddy was good enough, definitely good enough as a #5 starter.

There's no guarantee that Rios will turn it around and get back to his career numbers. But, it's more likely that it will happen vs. him putting up atrocious numbers forever. The jury still has to be out on Rios. We have to see him the rest of the season and into next season before we can declare him a dog...and I don't see that happening. Someone posted that it's a very small sample size, and that's true. It's like if we were to have started screaming and crying over Cutler's poor performance in the first pre-season game. I'm one of those who thinks Rios will come around. If he can get back to his career numbers (or even close), he's a much better choice than BA. I'll take .280 with 15-20 HRs, 70+ RBIs, and 30 SBs in addition to him being a good CFer.

I agree with most everything in the article. The piece of about the team playing hard...well, not as of late. He pretty much summed up what we've been saying here on this board. The players are most at fault for this season. I think KW has done a good job. The Peavy deal is pretty much a sure thing, IMO, and Rios will come around next season. I just hope that KW continues to makeover this team in the offseason.

Yeah, major changes have to be made to this team. Obviously the bad things are magnified right now with them playing so bad, but it's time to get away from the "let's wait for the home run" attitude. This team needs to jettison the old slowness and get down to speed and manufacturing runs.

I said 6-4 and was actually confident that would happen. I was thinking 5-5 at worst. I think the first loss in Boston pretty much set the tone for the road trip. It was a game we should have won and gave it away. The scary and frustrating part is that the Sox could finish the trip (including the game against the Shlubs) 2-9 or 3-8 and still be "in contention" because of the remainder of the schedule. So, I'll be forced to still watch the games AND be involved. I'd still watch the games if they were mathematically eliminated. But now I'll still have that minute ember of hope, and each loss will be that much more frustrating.
