  1. Jose always starts slow and comes to life as the season goes along. This year's improvement was quite dramatic, though. Maybe because his slow start was especially slow. But he really turned it on over the last month or so. On 5/24, he was batting .225 On 6/7, he was batting .260 On 6/29, he was batting .284 Today he's batting .299 His power numbers are down, but so is everyone else's on the team. He's on pace for about 19 HRs and 75 RBIs vs. 30 HRs and 117 RBIs last year (considering about the same plate appearances).
  2. This feels like nearing the end of a season where the Sox are out of it and have been for a while with a winner thread having only three posts. Giolito looked very good again. It's nice to see him pitching well. That's the kind of performance the team needs with the offense still...well, playing poorly. Lopez has been so damn good out of the pen this year. It's good to see him find his spot, and it's a valuable one. And finally, the Graveman/Hendriks 8th and 9th was textbook. Good win. A much needed win. Now they need to go take 3 of 4 from the Twins.
  3. Comes across as lazy. No one truly knows how each player prepares. He has a ton of talent, and he’s not reaching it. I just don’t think he commits himself like he needs to.
  4. Steve Stone has talked multiple times about players that prepare and get to the park early and condition themselves (Abreu). Eloy comes across as a lazy player that doesn’t take the time to prepare himself and keep himself healthy.
  5. And he wasn't quite at his best yesterday. His control, although much improved, is still spotty at times. Last night he had a few issues, but is slider was absolutely filthy. He made some good hitters look foolish.
  6. This is not a team full of bad hitters. There are some poor offensive players, but overall it's a team of way underachieving guys who are either not being coached well or are not heeding the advice of the coaches. I think it's the former mixed in with piss-poor attitudes. These are professional baseball players being paid a shit ton of money going out there and not even coming close to giving it their all. There's no accountability, no life, no fun. Down by four runs and getting yourself three outs on six pitches is unacceptable performance. And it won't change until something bigger changes.
  7. If Cease played for Yankees, Red Sox, or Dodgers, he'd be an all star. Same goes for Rodon playing for the Giants. Both guys are more deserving than several of the pitchers that did make it.
  8. This team is so unlikeable. Absolutely no effort, no excitement, just a bad, boring baseball team.
  9. Agree 100%. I do think, however, today's ball player is different. Not all, but some need that kick in the ass. They need someone to point out that they suck. I am not excusing the players at all. I just think a more heavy-handed approach wouldn't hurt.
  10. No, but there's accountability. I'm not sure Ricky would have been any better at managing the laziness and lack of preparedness we've seen from all three of these guys, but TLR is useless in that regard. This team lacks someone holding the players accountable. A real manager nips in the bud the laziness and half-assed running. A real manager benches Leury and Sheets when they're not performing. A real manager holds the players accountable.
  11. The Bear on Hulu is fantastic. Jeremy Allen White is superb as a highly successful chef taking over the family's hole in the wall restaurant in Chicago. The show has a Shameless vibe, and not just because of White. Constant dialogue (a lot of swearing) that sounds authentic, great acting, and surprisingly good character development for eight 30 minute episodes. Episode 7 looks like, and maybe is, one 20 minute shot that is so intense that I was stressed just watching it. Highly recommend this show.
  12. Remember when we were talking about this season, and we were saying that we'd need key players to be good (not necessarily great) and a few other players to step up in order for the Sox to be what we hoped, which was an easy favorite for the division? And we also said a lot of things would have to go wrong for them to not be contenders? Well, just about everything that could have gone bad has. Injuries and key players performing poorly are big factors, but piss poor managing by the local drunkard has been a huge factor.
  13. Hahn needs to take TLR’s favorite toy (Leury) and trade him away. For nothing, who cares. He’s useless.
  14. This team is just going through the motions. No fire, no effort, just lazy baseball. Speaks volumes about the leadership.
