Just wanted to add my most extreme props to Jon Boy after tonights performance. There was nary a moment when he didn't look completely in control of the game. FAN Tastic game. We needed it, and he came through in the clutch. Pressure means nothing to this pitching staff.

NO! I love G-Load but a starting 1B he isn't, when I look at a starting first baseman I want a potential #3 man, not a weak link. If we drop Konerko we have to spend a few bucks for an adequate replacement. We cannot trade in Ordonez and Konerko for Joe Borchard and Ross Gload and expect people to take us seriously.

Would have been cool during the crosstown series to have that playing, get the cubs fans all giddy and stupid and then have them hear Caray say "root, root root for the White Sox", but aside from that, Harry Caray is a Cubs icon and quite frankly I don't want him back, they can keep him. Where is this quote from? That's a pretty big statement, saying we're going after a No. 1 type catcher. You think about it, go down the list of "top tier" catchers and figure out who's even remotely available: Jorge Posada - No. Jason Varitek - No. Javy Lopez - Though the O's are well out of it, nobody's told them that. Lopez will be around for next year when they throw more money around. Ivan Rodriguez - He's just started a contract. Mike Piazza - No. Mike Lieberthal - No. Jason Kendall - Pirates are going nowhere and have tried to unload him for years. A.J. Pierzynski - Never. Paul Lo Duca - No reason for LA to trade him now. Ramon Hernandez - No reason for Padres to trade him. It can only be Kendall or Rodriguez, unless we're really stretching the definition of "No.1-type catcher". I-Rod is actually cheaper than Kedall believe it or not. I still don't even want to imagine what kind of prospects we'd have to give up to get these guys.

Read carefully, I never said deal Cotts. Cotts has a bright future in front of him. But that future might not come this season. Which is why we obviously have to start looking around for help. Kim was a top closer just 2 years ago, and last year sported an ERA of 3.13... or something. He's a quality and versatile arm. God forbid one of our pitchers goes down, he can be inserted anyplace. Just thinking of guys who don't fit in on their teams and would be available this early, y'know? Who we give up for him and whether it's worth the $$$ is a whole other issue.

I like Neal Cotts but this might not be the right time to sit back and hope he blossoms rapidly. If we're looking for a 5th starter and possible closer help, what about Byung-Hyun Kim? He's had a couple of poor outings but compared to Wright/Diaz and tonight's potential Cotts outing he's rock f'n solid. Plus, he's a surefire guy to have coming out of the pen. He's stuck in AAA and the Red Sox don't seem to have him in any of their plans for this year. Problem is, he's being paid a pretty decent amount, close to $5 mil I think, and because they're the Red Sox, I'm not sure there's anyone we can give them that we don't desperately need.

I'm not complaining about Comiskey as it is, but that looked like it could have been a snazzy idea. BUT, did you look inside that park? Tight foul lines is an understatement, and center field looks FRIGGIN HUGE. I'm sure Cub-lovers owuld have found just as many things to piss and moan about and critique. The only thing I still dont get about Comiskey is the way it turns it's back to the skyline instead of featuring it. Wind-schmind, put up a glass wall or something. Maybe in 30 years.

Can Carlos Beltran pitch and/or play second base? We'd have to give up too much to spend a half a season with Beltran, despite all five of his tools. We already have one top 10 outfielder out of our price range to deal with this offseason. Plus, we have Reed itching to take the CF spot if we need it.
