QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 11, 2008 -> 10:20 PM) It depends on what he told Congress. He testified in front of them under oath last week. If he said specifically that he never used steroids, and then were to do exactly that, yes, he could face perjury charges. That testimony is currently not public, so he may have taken the 5th at places and we wouldn't have found out unless someone were to leak it. He could also have left himself wiggle room by saying he never Knowingly took steroids or some dodge similar to that. If he told Congress he never took steroids, and there was a test done proving that the needles McNamee had were used on Clemens to inject a steroid, then he could face perjury charges that way also. in other words he's pretty screwed.

QUOTE(knightni @ Feb 11, 2008 -> 07:56 PM) I think if you make $300 would be fine with me. lol sweet. i think the stimulus was a terrible idea but hell, since it's happened i'm stoked about a little extra cash.

wait so... like... will i be getting $600 bux? my 2007 income was probably around the $7-8k mark (college... yay) - and this $600 doesn't change according to how much you pay in taxes/make/etc? i'm just trying to figure out if i'm included in this whole thingamabob.

Who is your favorite player currently on the Sox's MLB level team?
Reddy replied to Marky Mark's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Konerko - no doubt about it. Though Joe Crede will always have a special place in my heart for Game 2 of the ALCS -
QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 11:43 PM) Do you live in Japan? I'm assuming not, so how? I know a couple publications have called it the greatest game ever, so I'm pretty pumped for it. friend of mine got a japanese mod for his wii and the japanese version of the game so i got to play it thursday night. the controls take a little bit to get used to - they're generally the same as the old game but just feel a bit different. not bad though. I can say that even though they're still clones, Fox & Falco and Ganondorf & C. Falcon do actually handle and play differently so it's not terrible. Sonic is fast as hell. Like, so fast i ran myself off the stage a couple times getting used to it. But he's fun to play. The stages are fantastic and the backgrounds are insane. Visually the game is stunning.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 03:39 PM) You should be in hog heaven now then, because all of these candidates certainly do have issues. well said, sir.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 03:38 PM) Yet more troubling is that we call briefs a pair of underwear when there's no legs in them at all, just a couple of holes. excellent point...

i hate it when campaigns base their campaign entirely on meaningless rhetoric to rile up emotions instead of actually dealing with issues. this is why the candidates i support always lose - they're issues candidates.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 10:43 PM) Is this the first time you've seen him on there? He's been on repeatedly and has been pretty good each time. Heck, Stewart and Colbert had him on before his Iowa Straw Poll boost, so you could really say they helped make Huckabee. no i know he's been on before - he just has good timing w/ this one. and i thought it was even more funny given the recent "feud"
-
Man, Huck helping himself out tonight showing up on Colbert and being hilarious(even though i know his supporters probably aren't watching). I could really see him taking Romney's delegates and doing well in Texas IF the media recognizes that he's still there. We'll see.
-
HAHAHA Huckabee on Colbert tonight! lol

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 11:16 PM) Well their offenses are still probably better then ours at this stage, so they can make up for it that way. true. i'm not saying i'm blatantly optimistic about our chances this year - but i think we have a better shot than people here at soxtalk are giving us credit for.
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 10:16 PM) Who is confident though of having 2 out of the group of Contreras, Danks and Floyd winning more than 10-13 games and posting an ERA around the 4.50 mark? Because I think that'll be the ultimate difference maker for us this season. We know the pen should be improved and the offense will be better. although... look at the stats from Cleveland and Detroit's rotations last year... a decent number on both teams had ERA's around or above that 4.50 mark and they still did as well as they did.

Linky Wow, they actually thought we did a good job. And when you put it side by side like that, what we gained vs. what we gave up, it makes it look like Kenny actually did a helluva job this offseason. But they're right about that starting pitching thing...

QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 04:00 PM) Obama provides quite a bit of detail in his book. He also has a website to addresses each issue in detail. He can not give answers to complicated questions in "90 seconds before commercial break" sound bytes. To me, that sort of thoughtfulness is part of his appeal. It seems to me both candidates agree on many things. I just think Obama will be more likely to actually get something done without pissing off half of the country. a book he only put out because Edwards did so first. (i'm allowed to be a little bitter every once and a while right? lol)

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 02:58 PM) I personally disagree with Clinton on health care policy. Any government funded insurance program can be managed well, but must be voluntary to have a shot at being created, let alone succeeding. I disagree with Clinton regarding her vote on Iraq in 2002, but for anyone wanting her to admit that it was a mistake and withholding a vote for that reason is disingenuous. There was plenty of evidence available to her to indicate that the threat was real. A lot of people want to think that public officials should be distrustful of one another. That's bothersome to me, and evident of the kind of partisanship that's made me take a bit of a backseat when it comes to politics lately. Just because George Bush doesn't support the same things that I do doesn't mean that he's necessarily acting in bad faith. So when he asked for this legislation in summer of 2002 and said that his intent was not to use this as a blank check for invasion, it is in the best interest of this country to take a President at his word, unless he proves them otherwise. In this case, given the track record that Bush had in 2002, there was no track record to prove otherwise. There was also plenty of evidence to indicate that the President may have actually been right too. Although I disagree with her vote, and my initial intuition was along the lines borne out, I feel that this was not necessarily a mistake on behalf of Clinton to act in this manner. I, however, disagree with her initial stance on Iran. I feel that she will not adequately provide equal rights for all Americans and would sell out the gay community in a heartbeat if it improved her chances. Unfortunately, so would every other candidate running. Hillary Clinton was not my candidate last night. If she wins the nomination, she will be my candidate in November. The truth is, in the general election, we are voting for a party to guide our country over the next four years. When it comes to civil rights, the Democrats have my back more. When it comes to reproductive rights issues, the Democrats agree with me. When it comes to the idea of protecting the weakest among us, the Democrats agree with me. When it comes to the issue of International Relations, the Democrats are more in line with my views. Hillary Clinton is a Democrat, warts and all. And I will support her in November, if she becomes the nominee. People say that she will change her opinion on a dime if it means getting elected. Although some positions have changed, maybe we should look at John McCain and the soul he'll have to sell for a shot at getting the evangelical base out to vote in November. well said man. nice to have a rational Dem around here that sees that even a candidate they dont like in Hillary is better than anything the GOP can throw up there.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 02:54 PM) I actually heard three speeches last night, on the cab ride from the airport... Clinton, Obama, McCain. The most substantive was McCain, the least so was Clinton, in my view. are you kidding she at least MENTIONED issues unlike Obama. good lord man, was there a single piece of substance in that 25 minute speech of his?
-
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 01:56 PM) In his victory speeches, of course he doesn't - neither does anyone else. Those giant rallies are not for policy-making. Hillary's had substance last night.

QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 12:51 PM) When I refer to Obama as JFK like, I don't really mean by youth or good looks. It is the way he has energized the young people I work with who have never even mentioned politics. JFK's "Ask not what your country can do..." has a similar feeling as Obama's "We are the change that we seek". These twenty somethings are excited to the point of emotional. He makes them care, have hope, want to volunteer to do something, anything to fix this country. It really is remarkable. They are desperate because their future looks grim without change. I have children and I agree that Obama is the best shot at getting Republican's and Democrats working together to fix our problems. More of the same does not appeal to me. you refer to him as JFK like cuz the media does. End of story.

what is meant by this? When Kerry got smeared he didn't fight back. Maybe we NEED someone who will fight back!!! The GOP will pull out all the stops to beat her or Obama - we need to be willing to do the same as sad as that is. Negative campaigning WORKS hmm... how did GWB get elected? Oh yeah, he had Rove behind him. Now while i disagree that she's Rove-like, we NEED to win. And maybe being a bit ruthless (as seen above) is what we need So you're anti-Roe v. Wade and anti-civil unions and think that McCain will fix our Economy and like the prospect of 100 years in Iraq?? Ok, well in that case go ahead and don't vote for her. In my book that's just foolish. But what do I know?
