QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 09:17 PM) Nothing he said there makes me squeamish. He's pretty much correct on everything he said in the Maxim article. I love the way all the PC media idiots are outraged over his recent comments! LOL! Carl isn't crazy. Carl rules. Umm, Carl is borderline retarded.

Bill Mueller could be traded to the White Sox

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 07:19 PM) There was a Jose Uribe who played for the Giants back in teh day. Good call, Cheat. I'd actually recognize him on the street on the strength of his 1985 Topps card. I haven't seen it in over a decade, but I spent so much time playing with baseball cards as a kid that it could have been construed as mental illness. -

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 05:07 PM) Anyone know how Mueller's defense is? This is an interesting analysis: American League Defensive Analysis I agree with the vast majority of his points. I remember when Bill Mueller made miraculous play after miraculous play with the Giants and then with the Cubs, a major balls-out motherf***er. He is nowhere near what he once was. I don't care, I still hate Jose. -

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 06:25 PM) You've obviously never seen Beltre play the field. Tell me about it. Who has a better glove at 3B right now in the entire MLB? Maybe Rolen, but that's about it. -

QUOTE(OilCan @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 03:21 AM) They have Tim Duncan for a few more years, Manu for seven more and Tony Parker for five more years beyond this year. If they resign Horry and Nazr, as well as Devin Brown, they will be tough to beat in the West, no matter what anyone else does, or how fast teams like Phoenix and Dallas shoot. There's no way that you forgot to mention the guy who has finished TOP THREE in Defensive Player Of The Year voting the last two years. Outside of Duncan, who is the most important player when determining what makes the Spurs a defensive powerhouse? Assists Allowed Per Game 1. San Antonio 16.89 2. Indiana 18.78 3. Utah 19.41 4. Detroit 19.73 5. Miami 19.75 Least Fouls Commited Per Game 1. Phoenix 19.06 2. Detroit 19.97 3. Sacramento 20.54 4. San Antonio 20.93 5. Portland 20.93 Points Allowed 1. San Antonio 88.39 2. Detroit 89.46 3. Houston 91.03 4. Memphis 91.13 5. Indiana 92.24 FG% Allowed 1. Chicago .422 2. Houston .423 3. San Antonio .426 4. Miami .427 5. Detroit .430 Blocks Per Game 1. Portland 6.63 2. San Antonio 6.62 3. Detroit 6.06 4. Denver 5.96 5. Memphis 5.80 They weren't Top 5 in rebounding differential or opponents rebounding. That's where Detroit absolutely slaughtered folks, especially in REB DIF with 3.80+ (next closest nearly a full rebound off). If Duncan didn't have a sidekick to go out and defend your freak scoring SGs (McGrady, Allen, Pierce, Bryant, etc), you can forget about championships, and more importantly, asinine Dynasty speculation. His name is BRUCE BOWEN. He's a rare breed, the closest thing to Pippen (defensively) in the entire league. Duncan can't do it all on his own if he's surrounded by half-assed defensive players. Ginobli hustles his ass off for that loose ball and can cut off some passes, but he couldn't cover elite perimiter scoring threats if his life depended on it. Mohammed is a rebounding force who gets pushed around down low with his Gumbi-like body. Dude lost like damn near 100 pounds...he should try to gain 30 of those pounds back this offseason. Parker, Udrih, and Barry are terrible defensive players. And yet, check the defensive rankings. Check out the bread and butter. Keep in mind that Horry rarely ever played during the regular season. Bowen just turned 34, so his days are numbered. When discussing the Spurs of the future, you might want to remember Bruce Bowen? How are they going to replace him, Oil Can? Because dominant perimiter and mid-range defenders like Tayshaun, Artest, Iguodala, and Kirilenko don't grow on trees. -
QUOTE(HSC's Biggest Fan @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 07:43 PM) Boers was moronetti before he took his crap to radio. He is a negative dolt like most idiots on that station. It sucks that the sox are moving there as there isn't a good broadcaster on that station North, B&B, no afternoon programming at all, Murphy is a complete clown, late night. They got the Sox because other than North nobody makes any money on that station. If they are paying murphy more than minimum wage they are stupid. Murph is the motherf***ing man IMO and an absolute joy to listen to. What's your specific beef? And Boers is right in that the history of our franchise absolutely SUCKS. Currently, we have no players that the casual fan can get behind other than what, Frank Thomas? I can concede these things, and I'm hoping that others can as well. Just laugh it off. We're not sexy at all, we're like Joan Cusack in a bathing suit.

Bartolo Colon 1.18 WHIP Newcomers in the Top 20: Freddy Garcia, Matt Morris, Andy Pettite, Chris Young, Cliff Lee The Sox still have 3 pitchers in the Top 20, although Freddy Garcia has taken the place of Jose Contreras. Jose fell all the way down to #29 overall after getting his ass handed to him by Arizona. Houston can match us with 3 starters in the Top 20 in Clemens, Oswalt, and Pettite, but we're the only team in the majors with 4 starters in the Top 30. That is insane. Arlington is murder on pitchers, and yet, Kenny Rogers and Chris Young have WHIP ratios of 1.15 or better through the middle of June. I thought that Cliff Lee was a stroke, but he's making me eat my words. Sabathia is itching to get into the Top 20 with a 1.19 WHIP. Top 10 WHIP list for closers with no minimum IP: 1. Eddie Guardado 0.87 WHIP 2. Francisco Rodriguez 0.90 WHIP 3. Troy Percival 0.98 WHIP 4. Eric Gagne 0.98 WHIP 5. Billy Wagner 1.01 WHIP 6. Mariano Rivera 1.01 WHIP 7. BJ Ryan 1.04 WHIP 8. Chris Reitsma 1.04 WHIP 9. Chad Cordero 1.06 WHIP 10. Miguel Batista 1.09 WHIP Has Atlanta finally found a closer in Reitsma?

When I was in 6th grade, I had the Motley Crue album with "Dr. Feelgood". I also had a Motley Crue T-Shirt, purchased on the strength of that one song, "Dr. Feelgood". I also had the Vanilla Ice album, but I'll take that over Motley Crue 365 days a year. The late 80s...what a terrible era for rock music. I mean, you had to be a major dork if you were listening to stuff like Poison, Whitesnake, Def Leppard, etc.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 04:06 PM) Personally, I think some Zeppelin can always work. If you can get it up while listening to Robert Plant, then more power to you. That sounds like something you listen to while having a tooth pulled. I'm a fan of silence, but if I was forced to throw on some music, it would have to be some late 60s/early 70s Soul, most likely Otis Redding or Al Green.

This was my kind of game. I thought that the Pistons were going to slaughter them early on, but the Spurs pretty much owned them in the 2nd half. The defensive play was rough and rugged, Bowen shot some airballs B), etc. -
I love both Rosenbloom and Laurence Holmes. You can't go wrong with either one. One thing is for certain, though. Mully has to go as well. He's just not cut out for anything besides football talk.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 08:51 PM) On 1st and 10 earlier today, Woody Paige said that A-Rod has replaced Sammy Sosa as the king of the meaningless homer. I haven't seen as much of A-Rod as I have of Sosa, but I'd think much less of him if it were true. I've never even heard of "1st And 10". It sounds like a half-assed show if this particular assessment is any indication. He has a .434 OBP, and it took him until April 16 to get going. He's on pace for close to 200 hits and 100 walks. You can criticize quite a few aspects of this Yankee team, but Rodriguez ain't one of them. I don't care what he's making.

What in the hell is going on down there in Cincinatti? The offense clearly ain't the problem. You want to confiscate all luxury items owned by the pitching staff, not the position players. 1. Ryan Freel 152 AB/.316 AVG/880 OPS/425 OBP 2. Felipe Lopez 167 AB/.300 AVG/880 OPS/353 OBP 3. Sean Casey 207 AB/.319 AVG/814 OPS/374 OBP 4. Adam Dunn 186 AB/15 HR/958 OPS/398 OBP 5. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 04:42 AM) The Twins have Santana going tomorrow, while I know he isn't last years Santana he is still one hell of a pitcher, and I give the Twins a great shot to win tomorrow. Johan Santana: 0.94 WHIP (4th in baseball) 12.7 K/9 IP 1.3 BB/9 IP That's pretty damn close to the Santana of last year, and you know that he's just gonna continue to improve on that WHIP and ERA from here on out. -
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 01:20 AM) He causes problems everywhere he goes. In PHX no one and I mean no one liked him. Here he has caused riff raff with EC, Deng and Gordon. Jason Kidd and Anfernee Hardaway ain't even trying to her anything that the coach is telling them. I'd be an insufferable prick as well if I were Skiles and I had to coach a bunch of spoiled brats. Thank the lord for guys like Chandler, Duhon, Hinrich, Nocioni, and Deng. If we had the Knicks personnel, Scott would be gawn. And what about this riff raff with Deng? I could understand if there were problems with our pair of knuckleheads (Curry, Gordon), but I never heard jack s*** about problems with Luol. I sure as hell hope that ain't the case.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 05:02 AM) An article posted on nbadraft.net ranking the FA centers. Dalembert ranked above Curry. That really sucks that he whooped ass aginst the Pistons. His value went up to the point where he may be raking in the dough, making it next to impossible for the Bulls to get him. Oh well, I hope that he goes to the Hawks. -

Outside of the Bulls, the Pistons and Spurs are my two favorite teams in the league (followed closely by the pre-brawl Pacers). I'll be rooting for the Pistons, but if the Spurs win, I'll still be happy. -

I also wanted to point out how much the game has changed since the 70s and 80s. Here are your Defensive Efficiency rankings in 1989-1990. 1. Detroit 100 rating, 98.3 PPG Allowed 2. Houston 100.8 rating, 105.3 PPG Allowed 3. Portland 101, 107.9 PPG Allowed 4. San Antonio 101.2, 102.8 PPG Allowed 5. Utah 102.4, 102 PPG Allowed So, while Portland was one of the best defensive teams in the league, you'd never know it by looking at their PPG Allowed. Strange times. Even Detroit allowed close to 100 PPG, and they were arguably the greatest defensive squad in the history of the NBA. -

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 02:42 AM) He led the Blazers to the Finals. He was the #1 offensive option on a very intelligent, deep defensive squad. PG: Terry Porter SG: Clyde Drexler, Drazen Petrovic SF: Jerome Kersey PF: Buck Williams, Cliff Robinson C: Kevin Duckworth Drexler was the only true scorer, everyone else was crafty on the offensive end. If Sam Bowie would have developed into the rebounding/shot altering force that he should have been, they might have won it all at some point between 1988 and 1992. Think about that squad with Marcus Camby. But yeah, Drexler was one of the Top 50 players in NBA history. There's no denying his scoring prowess. However, guys like McGrady and Pierce are arguably just as good as Drexler ever was, and we all know that you just can't build around players like that and disregard the beef (Orlando Magic and Boston Celtics of recent years). -

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 10:25 PM) Game over. Thomas, Konerko, and Everett will all go down swinging for homers. You're an idiot, Ozzie. And here comes Mr. Inherited runners scored. Wanna bet he gives up a bases clearing double? We don't deserve to win this game. This is f***ing ridiculous. This game's over. You get my vote for soxtalk rookie of the year. Jesus Christ, get the f*** outta here.
