  1. QUOTE(Jake @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 11:07 PM) i think you forgot grant hill He's the Comeback Player Of The Year.
  2. I thought that Anchorman was beyond terrible. I think that I'd rather watch Substitute Part 6: Algebra Is A b**** starring the legendary Treat Williams and members of the Wu Tang Clan. Now THAT is a comedy.
  3. QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 04:47 PM) jamaal tinsley has also improved much since last year, same with bruce bowen of the spurs Tinsley has been forced to provide some more offense this year, but he was already a defensive monster. And Bowen? He finished 2nd or 3rd in Defensive Player Of The Year voting last year. He's been peaking for a few years now. That's why I didn't consider either of the two.
  4. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 07:35 AM) Did you guys read the user names? wtsoxfan007, oheoh, ssidejohn, fearthewhitesoxb**** I'm guessing they aren't Twins fans. yep
  5. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 07:32 AM) Robbie might be available right now since the Cards got Grudz, they will not sign Robbie now I believe So we will not need to give up prospects AGAIN for Alomar Or Everett at the deadline I don't want Alomar, man. I was just buls***ting.
  6. QUOTE(bjam44 @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 07:29 AM) It's nice to see that the twins fans can respect great players. I have grown up watching the big Hurt He will always be my favorite player. Me too. I was 11 years old when he was a rookie, and now I'm 26...and he's still here. He is irreplaceable in my baseball world.
  7. Let's get rid of Girlie Seriously though, we should go after Robbie Alomar if he's available. I mean it, I really do.
  8. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 05:22 AM) Pre-9/11, I mailed a burger back to Burger King that wasn't "My Way" -- First I left it to rot in my buddies cooler, which he had left in the clubhouse at our summer job. So after about a week, I put the once-bitten burger in a shoe box, wrapped it nondescriptly in brown paper, eclosed an explicative filled note, my reciept which specifically read "plain" and shipped it back to the store which I purchased it from. -- About 2 weeks later I got a voucher in the mail good for $10 at any Burger King in the nation. -- Incedently, that location no longer prints it's adress on the reciept. Gene, have I told you lately that you're my hero?
  9. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 05:37 AM) I've been one of the people torn over the prospect of signing him, not because he's not a significant upgrade as a veteran catcher with some offense to offer as well, but because of his rep and the Sox' past with him. I gotta say I like what he's saying, and I think this will end up being quite a solidifying move. Damn, two years ago if you told me that the Sox fan base would be having a big lovefest for AJ I'd have never believed it. Yep, I hear that. I like the fact that the enemy views him as a major asshole, but it's his work ethic that I'm not so sure about. Time will tell. I'm definitely excited, though.
  10. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 06:02 AM) http://www.forums.mlb.com/n/mb/message.asp...g=11934.1&ctx=0 Wow. I dropped by to read their take on AJ and saw this thread. Damn, I was shocked. Dude, those guys have more man-love for Frank than I do, which is scary.
  11. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 09:55 PM) I assaulted a Burger King employee, sort of, many years ago. I hate Mayo, ordered a chicken sandwich with no mayo. It came with mayo. I was nice, took it back and asked for a new sandwich. Don't want to piss them off and have them spit on your food or anything, so I know enough to be polite. Second sandwich had mayo, so I took that one back, was a little more rude, but still kept the language civil. They hand me the third sandwich, I sit down, open the bun, and what was there? You guessed it, mayo! So from my seat, I threw the sandwich at the counter person, then let loose with a long string of x-rated words calling out the cook, counter person and anyone that even looked at my chicken sandwich. The cook ran out the back door, possibly afraid that he may be the target of a flying chicken sandwich, I don't know. Just glad this was in the late 80's. I got free food coupons! If it were to happen today, I think I too would end up in the back of a cop car for assault with a deadly sandwich. Gee, and they always thought it was the calories and chloresterol that would kill you. Dude, that's awesome. I worked at a sumbarine joint from 1994-1999. One time, a dude asked for extra hot peppers on his beef, so I honored his request. He came back all pissy & told me that I didn't put enough on. Okay then. I think I put a good 8 ounces of gardiniera juice on it & he came back looking for a fight. I have never, ever gotten pissy with people at restaurants. I can definitely appreciate what they have to put up with, as I was one of those people for damn near 6 years.
  12. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 03:08 AM) Fields from the Panthers comes back from suffering through Hodgkins and he loses out on the award to Drew Goddamn Brees who suffered from simply sucking major donkey balls. This is a travesty. Yep, I hear that. Brees is the Most Improved Player, just like qwerty said.
  13. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 03:51 AM) Wade has improved as much if not more than any player in the nba. His jump in points per game and assists is excellent. He also shoots at a very good percentage. I hear that, but he was already an all star caliber player before. Since they started the Most Improved Player award, it has always gone to someone who was on nobody's radar before a given season started. While Wade could realistically be the most improved player in the NBA, he wouldn't qualify in the traditional sense.
  14. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 02:57 AM) LeBron James anyone? Others that would come to mind for me that haven't been mentioned are Antawn Jamison, Drew Gooden, Raef LaFrentz, Josh Howard and Marko Jaric. I think that in order to qualify for Most Improved Player, you would have to pretty much emerge from mediocrity, or worse. While guys like Wade, Lebron, and Antawn are better than they were last year, they're not that much better. They were already all star caliber players. When Lafrentz is healthy, he always puts up numbers. Gooden, at least to me, is a lackluster player & I don't take his rebounding average seriously (cherrypickin' like Fortson). He's just a beter version of Marcus Fizer, IMO. He's notoriously lazy. There was already a lot of hype surrounding Josh Howard coming into the season. I don't think that many people are surprised by what he has done in increased minutes. Jaric is a good call.
  15. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 09:10 PM) I say Michael Vick(or is it Mike Vick? :banghead ). Mike Vick has a nice ring to it, though. Michael Jordan has a better ring to it than Mike Jordan, Mike Schmidt has a better ring to it than Michael Schmidt, etc, etc. In this particular case, I'm gonna say f*** the status quo and just call him Mike. Oh yeah, I'm pissed about Vick not getting that rushing record. I'm also pissed that the Bills didn't make the playoffs...I think that they were capable of beating anyone for a little while there, especially in their own building.
  16. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 5, 2005 -> 07:43 PM) Looking at Belle's numbers and remembering his dominance, he could be a guy who gets in down the road. I think the sportwriters will hold him up, but when a new generation takes over, who could judge him without bias, I think he could make it. Belle is a certain hall of famer in my book.
  17. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 12:24 AM) I do not like him because he cannot hit a free throw to save his life. That is a very good point. 56.4% on the season from a SG/SF. :headshake
  18. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 12:24 AM) He is another one that needed to go to college in my opinon. He is already a good role player but he could have been a very good start if he want to college for at least a couple years. But of course not. Yep, I couldn't agree more. But you know how it is for most teenagers...it's all about immediate gratification. And besides, when you put yourself in his place, it's very hard to turn down millions when you [A] had jack s*** growing up and take potential college injuries into account. If it were up to me, I'd make everyone play a minimum of 2 years in college.
  19. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 12:12 AM) Miles has hardly improved. I don't think he would belong on that list. He's come on as of late, though: Miles' Game Log His rebounding and his defense has improved immensely. Check out all of the turnovers that he has forced over the past 15 or so games.
  20. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 12:11 AM) I agree with come back player. He is better suited for a stacked team offensively or coming off the bench. But he is doing a fine job with the talent he has around him. Yep, and then some. He's passing to offensive options like Gerald Wallace, Keith Bogans, and Primo Brezec, and he's second in the league in assists per game. That ain't too shabby. But unfortunately, he's one of the worst shooters in the entire league.
  21. I also thought about adding Mehmet Okur and Darius Miles to that list. If the poll allowed for 15 options, I'd add those two, Chris Mihm, Jason Hart, and Damon Jones. Okur got that huge contract though, and he did make some noise in limited minutes as a Piston, so I can't say that I'm surprised by what he has been doing since mid-December: Okur's Game Log
  22. QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 07:38 PM) definitely bobby simmons this guy has just been phenominal, you know whos not on that list is primoz brezec, hes been a stud for charlotte in the early months Well, 5.7 rebounds per game and 0.6 blocks is really nothing to get excited about from the guy who was considered to be the ultimate fantasy sleeper before the season started. He's a center, but he's only had two games with 10 or more rebounds. I know that Okafor is there hoggin' all the boards and what not, but still. Also, he never even got a chance to play before this year: Career Stats I look at him as though he were a rookie.
  23. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 07:06 PM) A lot of those guys have been quality players for a while. Larry Hughes is far better, but was always solid. Same can be said for Qrichardson. I hear that. Both Hughes and Richardson would have gone as middle-round picks in most fantasy leagues, so it's not like they are really surprising anyone, but they have both improved so much (whether it's surrounding talent, natural progression, or whatever) that I couldn't leave them off the list.
