  1. No question. And besides, his bat speed is nowhere near what it once was. That's why he's not getting as many of those laser beam singles anymore. It's not like he has an upper-cut swing...he's not swinging for the fences, but rather, he's trying to hit the ball hard somewhere. It sounds like the same thing, but it's not. However, what used to be routine laser beams is now routine pop-outs. But you can count on close to 40 HR and 30+ doubles if he's healthy. He might even surprise with a .300+ average...who knows? A 950+ OPS shouldn't be a problem considering that he still has that legendary batting eye...ya can't lose that. He is perfect for the cleanup spot.
  2. You wanna know what's funny? This other website that I post at (vinyl website) has a poll like this and Kerry is winning right now by a score of 34 to 0. Now that is comedy. Gotta love the vinyl heads.
  3. I just did a search on Kerry Wood and the boombox, and I still couldn't find any definitive info, but it turns out that Kerry's locker is right next to Sammy's. In light of that information, this definitely makes sense.
  4. Really? Holy s***. Boers and Bernstien talk about it all the time, and tehy listed three primary candidates: Prior Wood Barrett I took Barrett off of that list immediately, new jack that he is. And I figured that it wasn't Wood, because he's been teammates with Sammy since 1998. Prior was basically a no-brainer, but apparently not.
  5. Sammy's boombox was destroyed by someone on the final day of the season, although nobody will come out and say who it was. But they don't have to, because it's obvious. Did you hear that Prior interview on 670 AM right after the season ended? He hates Sammy with a passion.
  6. Randy Johnson and Armando Benitez were two of the top three legitimate cy young contenders last year according to my calculations. Thread of the year: Rex Hudler's system for knowledgeable and objective baseball fans
  7. Wow. Considering that Frank had an 1.100 OPS going into interleague play last year, this statement is beyond brutal. Unbelievable. I'd rather have Carl Everett over the Edgar Martinez of the past 7 or 8 years...this is due to the fact that Edgar can only hit. I smell a Cubs fan.
  8. Sammy Sosa gets my vote. I only wish that I was there to help Mark Prior destroy his boombox! I looove Mark Prior. I'd probably vote for Wirtz if I was the least bit interested in hockey. Other candidates for biggest tool: Eddy Curry David Terrell Moises Alou Latroy Hawkins
  9. By the way, here are some links: 1st and 2nd team defense since 1968-1969 Defensive Player Of The Year Awards since 1982
  10. Actually, I tried to put together a Top 10 list. From this pool of 20 (since the 1968-1969 season when they started keeping track of All-NBA 1st and 2nd team defense): Bill Russell C Nate Thurmond C Walt Frazier G John Havlicek G Wilt Chamberlain C Kareem Abdul Jabbar C Bill Walton C Bobby Jones F Sidney Moncrief F Moses Malone C Michael Jordan G Hakeem Olajuwon C Dennis Rodman F Dikembe Mutombo C Scottie Pippen F David Robinson C Gary Payton G Alonzo Mourning C Tim Duncan F/C Ben Wallace F/C You could also make an argument for Shaq in his prime, but I won't go there. Of those 20, these are the 10 that make the cut as far as I'm concerned: Bill Russell C Nate Thurmond C Hakeem Olajuwon C Dikembe Mutombo C David Robinson C Alonzo Mourning C Ben Wallace F/C Dennis Rodman F Scottie Pippen F Michael Jordan G And to go even further, I'd round out a Top 15 list with Duncan, Chamberlain, Abdul-Jabbar, Moses Malone, and Sidney Moncrief.
  11. Sure, but if you were to construct a Top 10 Greatest Defensive Players In The History Of The NBA list, your only non-centers on that list: Jordan Pippen Rodman There are exceptions to everything, but more often than not, you need that strong defensive center. And I wasn't trying to be condescending...I just found it odd that you said the East is weak at the C position after Shaq, Magloire, and Z. Wallace is so much more valuable than Magloire and Z that it's not even funny. Dalembert is a vicious defender/rebounder, and he's jut getting started. I kinda figured that you were just looking at offensive numbers, so maybe there was somewhat of a condescending tone there, but it was not my intention.
  12. Vikings Eagles Packers Jaguars Bills Cowboys Titans Colts Broncos Seahawks Patriots Chargers 49ers Jets
  13. 15 to 20 points a game for Chandler? I'd say more like 10 to 12, if he's lucky. A healthy Chandler can finish in the Top 5 for Defensive Player Of The Year voting, which is all that matters. That's why we brought him in here. That's why Krause brought a lot of guys in here (Artest, Hassell, Bowen, etc). Don't look now, but those are you three best perimiter defenders in the NBA. Krause was a defensive genius, but he went senile in the end. But the plan always always always revolved around defense. That's why you have 6 championship rings.
  14. Ben Wallace and Samuel Dalembert might be the two most devastating defenders in the paint in the entire NBA right now...both are centers out East. Those are the guys that you build championship contenders around -- check out Bill Russell. Not that I'd have to tell a Bostonian this. East Shaquille O'Neal Ben Wallace Samuel Dalembert (Ranked 51 overall in the yahoo rankings and chosen by Pro Basketball 2004-2005 preview mag as the favorite for Defensive Player Of The Year. Had him on my fantasy team last year when he got 200 blocks despite the fact that he didn't start getting major minutes until January. Quite possibly my favorite player to watch. ) Zydrunas Ilgauskus Mark Blount compared to.... West Yao Ming Jamaal Magloire Theo Ratliff Marcus Camby Erik Dampier Brad Miller (I guess.... ) I'd say that the entire league is pretty weak at the C position. The West has more depth, as usual. But I can't tell you how much it annoys me when supposed NBA experts talk about how Shaq gets to go to the East where the centers are weak. His division would have included these guys: Brad Miller, Adonal Foyle, Vlade Divac, and whoever the Clippers are throwing in there nowadays. WOW. Major title contenders: Nesterovic and Olowakandi. Those are some legendary centers that Shaq would've had to deal with if he had stayed out West.
  15. Pros Keith Foulke Cons Ben Affleck Peter Gammons Johnny Damon The Midget Doug Mentkiewicz The only way that I could root for this team is if they played the Cubs. Don't get me wrong, though. I'm a big fan of their history. All Time Lineup 1. Tris Speaker CF 2. Wade Boggs 3B 3. Ted Williams RF 4. Jimmie Foxx 1B 5. Carl Yastremzki LF 6. Manny Ramirez DH 7. Bobby Doerr 2B 8. Carlton Fisk C 9. Joe Cronin SS That is just...beautiful.
  16. Let's see, some of my preseason playoff teams: Panthers, Packers, Bucs, and Redskins in the NFC, and the Titans and Chiefs in the AFC. Teams I didn't have making the playoffs: Vikings, Falcons, Giants, Jets, Jaguars. But let's not dwell on the past.
  17. Yeah, I'd like to hear from someone who has watched all of their games in depth, because their passing game on paper has been less than impressive. Peerless Price and Alge Crumpler...these guys are pro bowlers. Finneran ain't too shabby. I honestly consider Crumpler to be one of the two or three best tight ends in the league. You would think that their play action options would be murder on opposing teams, but apparently, that's not the case. I'd like to think that it's their lack of an O-Line, because they are looking damn good at the skill positions.
  18. I also wanted to add that Atlanta is only averaging 167 passing yards per game, good for 30th overall in the NFL. That is all the more telling considering their weak schedule thus far. I don't think that Vick has any time to throw. Or maybe he can't throw, but not having any time to throw only compounds the problem. That O-Line will definitely hold them back from achieving anything. My money will be on their opponent in the playoffs.
  19. That's pretty crazy, although Vick and Dunn missed 16 games combined last year. Vick has 350 yards already through 7 games...assuming that he stays healthy and keeps up that pace, he'll have 800 rushing yards on the season. That is insane. That three-headed rushing attack with Vick, Dunn, and Duckett is almost enough to make up for their below average O-Line. I don't see them winning a playoff game, but if they had an above average line, they'd be the foremost Super Bowl contenders in the NFC next to the Eagles. If they had the Dolphins personnel, Vick would probably be injured for the year by now. When he's in the open field, he just kind of smoothly makes his way to the sideline and avoids contact, or if he can't get out of bounds, he knows precisely when to slide to avoid contact. But when he's scrambling backwards as three dudes are pursuing his ass, he's likely to severely sprain and ankle or some such. I hope that the Falcons are planning on acquiring some above average offensive linemen this offseason. It seems like common sense -- you want to protect your most valuable asset.
  20. And by the way, I agree that their QBs and RBs are also putrid, but their line is up there with the worst lines in NFL history. You think that their O-Line looks bad because the QB and RB are so brutal? That's not the case. They're all pathetic, and they're led by the chief dumbass: Dave Wannstedt.
  21. I say that the college scouting reports don't mean much in that they are college scouting reports. The NFL is a whole new ball game. While there are diamonds in the rough here and there like Tom Nalen and Olin Kreutz, most quality teams have a mixture of high OL picks (first two rounds) and some quality free agents. Pittsburgh has a line...they have drafted high and added some quality free agents. Alan Faneca? Well, he was a 1st round pick, and he's quite possibly the best guard in the league. That is a major building block. I have no respect for any team that doesn't make the OL a top priority, or the top priority. And saying you can have all of those pro bowlers on the line and not have success? I have two words for you: Denver Broncos. Who are these guys? Droughns? Griffin? Gary? Anderson? In fact, it's the reverse which is true. Gale Sayers and Joe Montana would lose with this Miami line, but Jon Kitna and Olandis Gary would win with the Denver line.
