QUOTE(Omar Minaya @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 02:40 AM) Mets Starter ERA - 3.81 - 4th in the Majors White Sox - 4.01 - 9th in the Majors close, but no cigar Also, keep in mind that the Mets gave Pelfrey 6 starts to the tune of a 6.53 ERA, Chan HOOOOOOOOOOOO a start with a 13+ ERA, and Jason Vargas an equally mediocre start. In comparison, the White Sox have only given one start to Nick Masset. You said the White Sox can't rebuild. This implies that they need to contend. How can draft picks help them contend more than Milledge? I mean seriously, have some accountability for what you say. Not to mention I don't know how you can expect your compensatory draft picks to be better than Milledge. One: Bring that Mets rotation over to the AL and see how they fare. Comparing NL rotations to AL rotations is like comparing Men (AL) to boys (NL). Before you rebuttle, think about the difference. It's either pitching to David Ortiz or, um, Tom Glavine. Not much to think about there... Two: Milledge might make an immediate impact, but he doesn't have the type of "stock" that'll land a Mark Buehrle--not from where the Sox currently stand. There's no guarantee with Milledge as there is no guarantee with any players. But some players have much less a risk factor and Milledge isn't quite low enough (even if his reward is sky high) to merit a Mark Buehrle. Yes, theoretically Milledge is a lower risk than compensation picks, but if you look below, maybe you can see why the asking price for Buehrle might be a bit higher. Three: You probably don't understand how much value Mark Buehrle has to the White Sox. They're a small market team playing in a huge market that has evened it up the past two years. Getting rid of Buehrle (the face of the franchise) and dropping out any semblence of contention (i.e. hope) kills pretty much any momentium the Sox have as a business and with this city. It brings back the reminders of the "white flag trade" that apparently pissed off a lot of fans. Just the lingering idea that the Sox might resign him keeps a lot of fans around. Four: There aren't many other pitchers (if any) available on the trade market that can put up the numbers Mark Buehrle can. That alone will make his price higher than just a straight swap for Milledge.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 10:51 PM) Watching ESPNEWS, the Sox highlights came on, and the anchor was talking about how bad the Sox offense was, but how "this kid Andy Gonzalez" could be the answer for the Sox. I seriously despise that network. I haven't turned it on in over two months and as I go to check ESPN.com for scores, sometimes I catch an article description here or there and it seems they always finish off the description with, "our expert has the answer." f*** THEM.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 10:37 PM) Exactly, so what the hell is the point of a pitcher's W/L record if it's so heavily weighted by the other 8 players around him (the team's offense especially)? There are so many other good stats, it's just such a damn shame that so many people decide to use a pitcher's W/L as some sort of barometer of success. The main point I was making was toward your initial post...which, I guess, was sarcasm? You compared various pitchers around the league to ours and used only W/L (on the surface?) to determine who fitted with who. There are too many variables in baseball to just compare/contrast like that. Win/Loss records aren't totally moot, though. Some pitchers are average but have a knack for keeping their team in the game whether it be giving up 8 runs or 2 runs. They are mutants, also.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 10:24 PM) I actually like to take it one step further. I'm all for abolishing the W/L record of pitchers altogether. It's a meaningless stat that does nothing but confuse people who don't know what to look for when using statistics to evaluate player performances. f*** Jerome Robertson, seriously. I don't really understand any of this so I'll clarify a bit. Who would you rather have? PITCHER A: 8-7 w/ 4.90 ERA, 1.50 WHIP or PITCHER B: 2-8 w/ 3.46 ERA, 1.31 WHIP If someone were going by wins, which people like Hawk Harrelson tend to do, they would probably take player A. Pitcher B. Unless pitcher A were the fifth starter and the team was in first place with, say, an 8 game lead. (I might've confused people again. Pitcher B is the superior pitcher--it just seems that his team sucks. Where pitcher A appears to be the lesser pitcher, but have a better team.)

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 10:10 PM) He was being sarcastic guys. Kalapse has always said he'd take the 3.00 ERA and 12 wins over the 5.50 ERA and 20 wins. That's poor logic too. A pitcher is only as good as the players around him. Obviously some guys are flat out mutants (Johan Santana) but would Mark Buehrle really be 4-4 on the Red Sox or Angels? No. I've got the flu, by the way.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 09:52 PM) I agree with him. Jose Contreras: 5-8 Equivalent: Carlos Silva (MIN) (5-8) Mark Buehrle: 4-4 Equivalent: Brian Bannister (KC) (4-4) John Garland: 4-5 Equivalent: Aaron Cook (COL) (4-5) Javier Vazquez: 3-5 Equivalent: Matt Chico (WAS) (3-5) John Danks: 4-6 Equivalent: Kameron Loe (TEX) (4-6) So the White Sox starting rotation is essentially: 1.)Carlos Silva 2.)Brian Bannister 3.)Aaron Cook 4.)Matt Chico 5.)Kameron Loe Surely the Starting staff could pitch better than this, I mean come on Carlos Silva is not a #1 starter. That's some of the worst logic I've ever seen on this site. And from Kalapse? I expect better from you...

I have to give the new Okkervil River album "The Stage Names" a thumbs down. But I'm open to changing that opinion because I haven't listened to it enough. I've hated all Okkervil River albums on the first few listens.

Perhaps he's an AL player? For whatever reason, there's plenty of guys in this league that switch over and struggle.

Yes. Now go back to the dark basement where the bees will rape you--you sick, twisted, humorless man. But seriously, what comedian hasn't dropped a lame joke here and there? There's only one comedian in the world whose never actually written a good, intelligent joke. And that man is Will Ferrel.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 05:55 PM) The new disc from the Dublin Death Patrol is out, and I'm liking it a LOT. MEH-TULLLLL!!!!! EDITED to include the disc's title: DDP 4 Life Metal and Hardcore are really the only two genre's (they sound alike, anyway) that I just can't get into. Some metal is okay, like instrumental stuff. But when the vocalist comes on and screams this deep howl in my ear, I'm just like, "Jab an ice pick in my ear and maybe then it'll sound better."

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 12:51 AM) So I'm the only one who thought season 3 was outstanding, possibly even better than the first 2? I too have been watching the show since the beginning since Denis Leary is by far my favorite all time comedian. I'm also one of 20 people who watched his other show, "The Job." I have The Job on DVD. I'm a big Leary fan too. But my beef with Season 3 was that most of the elements that made the first two seasons were minimized. There weren't many funny scenes in the kitchen. There weren't very many scenes in the firehouse all together. They didn't have many blazing fires that damn near took lives. And sheila was just beyond annoying as was Garrity's (sp?) girlfriend. I think the mistake was making a love triangle for Tommy. I was annoyed with Sheila from the very beginning, but I think it was a terrible move to introduce more problems with Janet on top of Sheila. They should've either dumped Sheila and brought us Janet and his brother or disregarded that whole conflict all together. Even writing that was difficult...I don't think I should ever have to watch a show and spend 10 minutes explaining who's with who and who's cheating on who, ever. That stuff is tired and old. Right now in season four, the relationships only serve as background purposes to the main conflicts. Perhaps you can argue season 3 was needed to get where we are now...but there are other ways to get where we are now--and it doesn't have to involve tired relationship cliches. I also think season 3 tried too hard to develop the characters around Tommy.

Alright, just got through episode 2. This show is definitely back on top.
-
Finished with the first episode and am starting the second right now. I really liked the first one. It was very funny (was it me or was there hardly any humor in season 3?) and I find it interesting (albiet a bit predictable) that the story Leary made up for the lawyers was what actually happened. And that "retard" got to level 60 in less than five hours? That's just plain impossible (since they were playing off of World of Warcraft.) And I was totally waiting for him to smash that computer open the way he was going at it.

I know I'm not the only one out there that watches this show. I'm behind on season four already (just sitting down to watch the season opener) but I really hope its better than season 3 because I was disappointed in it. So, who watches the show? And if a lot of people do, consider this the official thread.

I mean, Apple is a company that has built its entire user base around the fact that its users can't do simple things like turn their computers on." Okay, this problem is really getting on my nerves so I've brought it here to see if anyone has a solution or an idea. I've got a Toshiba Satellite A105-s4064 notebook. Recently the left click on the touchpad has stopped working. So far I've cracked the case open to check if a connection was loose and one is not. I also checked the drivers, updated and still no luck. When I plug in a wireless mouse, both clicks work fine. The right click on the touchpad works great. The touchpad itself works great. Just the left click is essentially worthless right now. Any ideas?
