QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 04:50 PM) That would be like me telling you I'm better looking than my avatar. What? Are you saying Bobby Jenks is purely a thrower? If so, what Jenks are you watching? Perhaps it's A.J. back there, but the guy has a pretty good idea of what he's doing out there on the bump. And I don't think his velocity drop is as much a health issue as it is Coop trying to harness his control. Or are you agreeing with me? I'm looooooost. But I hope you're better looking than your avatar.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 03:04 PM) They also tend to burn out real quick. How many closers from 2002 are still closing out games today? I'd say Jenks has a much better chance at being the next Billy Koch than the next Troy Percival. I won't completely disagree. But Bobby Jenks is much more of a pitcher than Billy Koch is.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 09:15 PM) It is almost impossible for any GM to put out a good team that could compete every year with this old as hell lineup and pretty terrible farm. Believe it or not, a rebuilding is the best possible thing any GM could do to this team. I don't think that was the point he was trying to make. If I read into it correctly, the Sox don't want to go back to 20,000 fans a game. They're on the heels of the Cubs in this city and this years misstep is eating away at a lot of ground the franchise made up the past two years. Going into complete rebuild mode assures the fans that they're not going to win jack in the next 1-3 years and puts people right back on the Cubs bandwagon. You trade a guy like Jenks, that's a big message to the fan base. "Not this year, sorry." Of course a lot of people at this site understand that rebuilding is the best thing this team can do... but it's just about the worst business strategy the franchise can use.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 07:24 PM) Because how much value is a closer to a rebuilding team? I consider the closer one of the last pieces you really need (and by closer I mean a true shutdown closer, ala Jenks/Rivera/Hoffman/Krod) and the type of piece that you usually can find in relatively short notice. I mean to a rebuilding team wouldn't it be better to get a Salm (best catching prospect in baseball) and Escboar (very very good SS prospect whose major league ready) at the very least for Jenks (plus I think you can get Devine or someone else) from a team like the Braves. Ie you get a catcher and SS for the next 5-10 years for a closer (someone who is not going to be the key piece to your rebuilding at least not early on). I don't know many teams that can get a "Jenks/Rivera/Hoffman/KRod in relatively short notice." These guys don't grow on trees. Plus, usually when a team gets one, he comes from within the system. When is the last time a big name closer was dealt? When is the last time, besides Jenks, the Sox developed a pitcher within their system that had closer type stuff? (And Jenks didn't even come from our system.) Keep Jenks. Closers stick around with teams for a long time for a reason. Good ones aren't easy to find.

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 09:22 AM) All I can think of is Brian from Family Guy repeating, "Mohito" over and over again. "I don't think it's a gay drink. ...Moooohhhhhhito." Everyone should drink Grey Goose and Tonic anyway.

QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 02:15 PM) It's what the 2 women in your avitar would probably give you after a night of partying like that. If that's what it is, it don't seem so bad. I have health insurance.

QUOTE(YahtzeeSox @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 01:18 PM) No, he probably is connecting VGA if it's coming from a laptop. I doubt the Intel line of graphics chipsets supports odd widescreen resolutions. You're probably SOL. VGA, yes. I've read other line's of computers with the same chipset that were able to get the resolution. But it appears that I'm SOL at the moment. I need Toshiba to release a BIOS update with this supported resolution or find a hack.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 12:32 AM) I don't know how you'd get email from them. Did you get a PM or something? I haven't heard of it but I would never approve of that sort of advertising (I don't give out any email addies...EVER and I don't do pop-ups). No PM's or anything. No worries. Gmail's amazing spam filter took care of it. -
QUOTE(TheOcho @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 06:06 PM) I can only guess is the way he realized Tommy's daughter was acting(or not acting) to seeing her father getting beat up. Their plan back fired and he saw that Tommy was taking a dive for nothing since she was all like, "Don't break your hand!" or along those lines. That's what I figure too. I just hope Tommy goes back and kicks the s*** out of that punk. He was slapping Tommy! Something is going down with that girl and I guarantee it brings her back home.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 03:04 PM) Just curious if anybody here has had any positive experiences in purchases concert tickets through ticketbrokers. Would anybody care to recommend a good one? I am sort of nervous about buying through a ticketbroker because I am not sure what backs up the purchase say ... if the tickets get lost in the mail. I just want to make sure I get my money's worth. Craigslist is better than any of that s***. You can go directly to the person's home and pick up the tickets. Won't get lost in the mail that way.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 12:43 PM) I didnt even notice the whitesox hat, now im going to have to watch it again I missed it too. Don't matter. It was a good movie regardless. SPOILERS!!!! I got really pissed when he woke up on the beach and it gave us the appearance that he was just having a dream of sorts. But it was a nice twist to make that part of the hotel room.

QUOTE(J-MAN @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 11:22 AM) I don't know if any of you saw the article in the papers - apparently the actor who plays the chief wasn't thrilled about the ending - he made some comments that Leary is really an ass. I can't belive they killed off one of the few believable characters in the show - most of the rest of them are a bunch of retards. I can't believe anyone could be as shallow as Leary's character. As we used to say he would screw a snake if someone held its head. His character tries too hard to be a "man's man" and sometimes it gets on my nerves. The highlights of the show, for me, isn't in the drama. It's in the jokes. And I sincerely believe that Denis Leary is an asshole in real life, too. But I will say that Ken is a believeable character. He's easily the funniest character on the show.

I bought a 22 inch Samsung SyncMaster 226bw monitor. I'm running it on a Toshiba Satellite a105-S4064 notebook. The monitor's native resolution is 1650x1050, but it appears my computer does not support that type of resolution. It's running on an Intel 945gm chipset and I've updated the drivers to it and also the BIOS to see if I can get that resolution. So far the best I can get is 1400 x 1050 (that was only after I updated the BIOS.) I can bump it up to 1600x1200, but it's blurry. Anything above that, it just doesn't work. I've scoured the internet for answers and the best I've found is "915resolution" which is a BIOS hack, but appears to be for Linux machines, not Windows. Does anyone know how I can get this native resolution? EDIT: Sorry I posted it in Palehose Talk. I wasn't paying attention.

QUOTE(bmags @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 10:29 PM) to sell out you'd need a single. Eh, I disagree with that. Do you not like the quote feature?

QUOTE(TheOcho @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 10:24 PM) Not sure what to say... took a rather drastic change. Oh and Jennifer Esposito is hottttt. Oh, you know it. Sort of expected that ending, though, I'm not sure why. My question is, why was Ken looking at Tommy like that during the fight? Was it part of the act? Was he feeling something we don't know about?
-
QUOTE(bmags @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 01:51 AM) so god damn stage names isn't ... ugh. Come again? Is it me or does it sound like they sold out? EDIT: I'm going to stick to my original opinion. "Stage Names" is just flat out terrible. I mean, what the hell?

Kenny hasn't considered any of this. He has no idea how much his players are making, how many years they're signed for and it has yet to occur to him that he has a lot of money already locked up in a certain group of players. He has no idea that he has a lot of holes to fill and very little room to work with. He doesn't know that Buehrle is a FA next year and he doesn't know yet that Crede is on the DL. He doesn't know that the bullpen is a complete mess and he doesn't know Dye isn't putting up numbers close to last year. He still thinks Thome will slug them to a World Series because he's the left handed power hitter the team has needed for so many years. He doesn't know that Jose Contreras is old. He doesn't know why french fries are called "french" fries. He doesn't know who Razor Shines or Ozzie Guillen are. He doesn't even know who he is. Why do I keep seeing these kind of threads? Kenny Williams isn't a moron. He understands what's going on--it's just a matter of whether he can work through all these restrictions in a timely matter.

I'm one of the biggest Garland fans on this site, but Buehrle is the man.
