  1. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 11:42 PM) My wife plays Amy Winehouse non stop. She's the goods. Rehab is such a good R&B song. Really lets what made the genre good shine in the song. Powerful voice too.
  2. I'm getting e-mail from these people now. And I haven't signed up for jack. SPAM e-mail really pisses me off. If the guy who is promoting this reads this, do a promotion the right way: leave the people alone who don't want to partake. If anyone else is getting this crap, hopefully this poker business won't show up here again.
  3. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 10:29 PM) You know, I feel like an ass because I've PMed you twice about Murphy to ask who it was and then I forget your name? But hey, I was pretty sure it was BobDylan. I love your new avatar, Bob. It's sexier than the other one. The other one's great, though, and I hope to see it back SOMEDAY. Just not yet! I might just put it in my sig.

QUOTE(shipps @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 08:24 PM) Is there any Chicagoans here that go to the Landmark theatre on Clark St? Just discovered it and I think its great I dont think I want to go back to seeing mainstream movies anymore, independent films are the way to go. Redford is opening an indie film theatre somewhere in the loop sometime soon. I'm looking forward to it. For indie films, I usually hit up Pipers Alley.

    Entourage

QUOTE(shipps @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 08:12 PM) I think that is kinda the point that makes the show funny.Hollywood making fun outa Hollywood.Like when Drama was in the end doing a horrible acting job as a soldier, and Walsh doing the movie in spanish ala Mel Gibson movies. ^^^^^
  6. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 09:16 PM) Well, I don't know what hte SoxTalk rules are with regard to SEXY but I've got an avatar that's sexy and funny and might compete with these dudes' but I want someone to tell me if it's all right. No nudity. I see it as no different than any of the others, really, but I'm putting it out there for anyone to use if they want, and for anyone to object to, I guess. (I spoke to HEads about it and he said, "I've got no problem with it. Someone else might, though." So there we go. I'm seeking second opinions.) I've got a problem if somebody tells you that you can't put that up. That's just...awesome. I changed mine in light of this topic. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 09:32 PM) I think Juddling and the dude with the Brittany Murphy on the horse avatar are good. Should I change it back?
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 11:35 AM) So, I take it you'd say that's worth spending some $ on before I do a 30 hour car drive? It's better than their previous two. Worth the cash? I wouldn't put down $15 for it, but it is a different effort than the previous two. Jack pulls out some tricks he hasn't used before. I guess it depends on how much you like them. I was thoroughly disappointed with Elephant and Satan, so I didn't put much stock in Icky Thump. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 01:48 PM) *sigh* I so miss 90s music. We might not enjoy the same artists, but it's great that you have an appreciation for things straight across the board. Pelican The National Dylan Clarkson I haven't heard her new record, but Clarkson is another classic example of a gifted singer using her amazing voice to make crap music......and she's put on about 40 lbs. Kelly has definitely put on some weight. I saw her on Kimmel and her thick thighs and balloon ass distracted me from the music. She used to be really hot, but it's not like she's ugly now. Oh, and speaking of 90's music... Pulp's "Different Class" is tops from the 90's. That means sit down Cobain (overrated, anyway). Jarvis Cocker owns b****es in that album. Not to mention Cocker ran onto stage during a live Michael Jackson set and mooned him. QUOTE(bmags @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 01:24 PM) i have a very busy job. I don't know what is going on in music right now. I like kelly clarkson though. I don't really need/want lyrical inspiration from her, just some fist pumpers/sing alongs. Probably true, but it's a shame her voice is wasted. I mean, the female scene in indie music is dominating right now with Feist, Taken By Trees, Oh Laura, Coco Rosie, Joanna Newsom, Amy Winehouse and Alele Diane. She's got the power in her voice to dominate that scene--but she needs to slow the f*** down and pull that rock music down a couple notches and find a good writer.
  8. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 12:52 PM) Aaaarrgghh!!! You're all like Pod People who have replaced all the human beings with taste buds. I enjoy Guinness, but not to get hammered on--it's too f***ing expensive. But it does go nice with a meal. If I'm getting hammered, I'm buying whiskey or Miller because it's cheap. That said, I have three Guinness in my fridge and I will drink them tonight. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 02:12 PM) I'm a year older than you! My taste buds don't like Guiness, Corona or even alot of the craft beers that are available. Oh well, I have enough of a beer gut as it is, don't need the million calories in a Guiness to add to my bulk. Guinness and Corona in the same sentence? The hell is this?
  9. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 05:47 PM) Your Kelly Clarkson review disqualifies you from consideration. I'm enjoying a band called My Teenage Stride. They sound like the soundtrack to a John Hughes film he never made. 80's retro sound, but more in the vein of The Smiths than Joy Division. I love The Smiths. And I'm very, very tired of all the Joy Division rips. One, maybe two of the rips are good. The rest? I'd rather eat my own puke out of a bowl. Anyway, I downloaded "Ears Like Golden Bats" and I like it much. Good reccomendation. P.S. I will stake every ounce of reputation (or lack there of) I have at this site on the new Kelly Clarkson. QUOTE(farmteam @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 07:19 PM) I'm listening to Fashion Nugget right now. Cake! Good s***.
  10. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 10:52 PM) Just saw this now but had to say...Boxer f***ing RAPES. God I love this album. Awesome. By the way, bmags, if you're around anywhere... I'm gunning for your "Most Musical" award.
  11. Okay, don't bash me before listening to it, but Kelly Clarkson's new album My December is quite good. It has some "indie" feel in it and the craftsmanship through it is very good. This is a singer who has, in my opinion, never released an album with any more than two songs worth listening to more than twice. This one has at least seven. Whoever writes for her (or if it's her) needs a few lessons though. The writing throughout is weak and digging to hit areas that she'll never hit--even with her voice. If she's changing her sound to the indie vibe, hopefully somebody will tell her that subtly can go for miles in poetry.
  12. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 02:37 PM) Not funny at the time, but kinda funny now. My college roommate was dating this girl two years younger than him. They had been dating since high school. Finally, when we were juniors and had an apartment, she started as a freshman. So, after two years, they were FINALLY together. We move into our new apartment on a Sunday and classes started on Thursday. Thursday morning, at 8AM (!!!) my roommate knocks on my door and comes in crying. I'm still wiping the sleep out of my eyes when he lays this gem on me, "I just saw (ex-girlfriends name here) on my way to class." "Yeah...and...?" I say. "She was walking home. (sob) She's doing the walk of (sob) shame." GOO! Needless to say, they got back together, she promptly cheated on him again and that was that. Not funny watching my friend cry, but funny now because, well...IT WAS COLLEGE!!! Who cares? Enlighten me, what is the walk of shame?
  13. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 01:08 PM) any Pelican fans have thoughts on the new record? City of Echoes? My take is the band has loads of potential but doesn't even come close to reaching it. The songs seem uninspired and never hit the points they need to hit. Plus, an awful lot of the songs sound the same. That said, the album is decent.
  14. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 11:44 AM) i've heard a lot of really varying opinions on heroes. people seem really divided by it. some think it's just a great story and gives you the answers you don't get from lost. others say it is overly simple and written like crap. i do like the concept and will probably give it a look at some point. incidentally, to fill the time between lost i've just started the alias series on dvd. great stuff. (no spoilers, please). I'm one that say its written like crap. I hate Hero's. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 12:24 PM) and how many of those great HBO shows would exist if Sopranos never aired? Isn't that beside the point considering the shows are aired on different networks? One which has a lot more restrictions?
  15. Eh, not great, but one time I tried to break-up with a girl at the local park once. She proceeded to cry, demand that I give her a reason--which I did, I just flat out said that I didn't have feelings for her anymore (and she was a prude, which I left out)--and then she demanded to know why I didn't have feelings anymore. But I didn't know, I mean, I don't understand the cosmic bull s*** that goes on in my heart and in space and what the f*** Cupid wants. I just do what the wind tells me to do. So she she kept crying and I kept saying, "So it's over and I'm going to go home now." And it was new ground for me to step on so I stood there like an idiot and waited for her acceptance instead of just high tailing it out there and letting her deal with the pain herself. But I never got the acceptance, just more questions I couldn't answer like, "How do you know you won't have feelings for me tomorrow?" So finally when I really didn't know what to do, I said, "Okay, we won't break up." And then she said some bull s*** like, "You're not going to just dump me a week later, are you?" Of course I said no, and when I got home, I went online and dumped her on AOL Instant Messanger. That way I couldn't see her cry and that way I could say, "Listen, I'm not giving you any answers. I don't care. I don't want to care. So it's over. Bye." And not get slapped. Needless to say, we don't talk any more.
  16. QUOTE(vandy125 @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 01:36 PM) That makes me think of something like: "Come see Cy Young every day!" Bill Veeck Jr. would make a slogan like that. Shame he's no longer with us and that our organization is a bunch of jerk-offs who'd rather be damned than say anything negative about the team.
  17. QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 04:39 PM) "Challengers" the New Pornographers upcoming album has leaked I've got it downloaded, but I won't be able to listen to it until later tonight I don't know how many sources there are of this leak, but it was sent to me from my brother, who got it from the ateaseweb.com (a radiohead fansite) message board so if you're interested I would search around there The new Iron & Wine (Shepherd's Dog) is also out there somewhere too. Albeit in poor quality. Oh, and the new Ryan Adams album is tops.

    Inspiring Story

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 03:12 PM) Hopefully this hasnt been posted yet. If it has, please merge or delete http://www.cjcphoto.com/can/ If you follow this link, there is a touching video. I have a family member who lives in Misercordia in Chicago, so this is near and dear to my heart. It's an old story as I recall seeing it months ago (if not last year), but I don't think its been posted in here. Indeed a touching story, I reccommend it to anyone who hasn't read/seen it.
  19. QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 11:49 AM) I was going to say the exact same thing and just for the sake of accuracy, alligator isn't their first album Really? I've just gotten into the band so I don't know much about them. *Runs off to find their other stuff*
  20. QUOTE(shipps @ Jun 11, 2007 -> 08:23 PM) After hearing a few of you guys on the board with high praises of The National I went out and bought Boxer and it really is great. But it is a "mood" type of album the lead singer is kinda like the Eeyore of rock.A masterpiece nonetheless. Their first album "Alligator" is less of a mood album than Boxer is. If you want it, PM me and we can figure out a way to get an MP3 copy in your iTunes.
  21. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jun 11, 2007 -> 02:37 PM) But you know what? I have a strange feeling that the offense is gonna bust out sometime soon and go on a roll. This is just too weird to have a team slump all together like this, when they have all proven they can hit and play (okay except Uribe or Pods last year). You've been a Sox fan far too long to know that won't happen.
  22. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 10, 2007 -> 09:43 PM) WhiteStripes album comes out this week. Already have it. That band is dead, but I think Icky Thump is a better effort than their last two. Elephant and Get Behind Me Satan were pretty bad. Still, never will there be a worse effort than Coldplay's X & Y. I'm still scarred from listening to that...
  23. I had just tapped the well dry for story ideas. Thank you for posting this, Flash. Now please excuse me as I hit the word processor.
  24. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 11, 2007 -> 12:22 AM) Interesting spot for this thread. Going to move it to trade winds instead of the Buster Haha. Thanks.
  25. This is just an idea. With Pie playing somewhat well for the Cubs, do you think Jaqcue Jones could get nabbed for cheap? His batting average is crap (which would fit in with the team immediately), but he adds good speed, he's a solid defensive right fielder and he gives the team an enormous boost of speed. Plus, he's a former Twin and knows a little bit about the small ball mentality. If Dye is traded for a Billingsly or the like and inserted into the bullpen, do you think Kenny Williams would go out and make a move like this to try and jump start the ball club one last time? Granted, I don't know what Jones' contract is like. I know he's got 5.6 mil due this year, but I don't know about the future. Thoughts? EDIT: I have no idea why I posted it in this forum. I guess I wasn't paying attention?
