3 and a half songs through Boxer by the National and am already blown away. Have never heard this band's music before. But this album is really, really good so far.

QUOTE(bmags @ May 17, 2007 -> 10:38 AM) anyone else kind of angered at how much they showed in the previews. You basically found out that they aren't gonna blow up some others Yes. Or at least they don't blow them all up.

QUOTE(3E8 @ May 16, 2007 -> 10:12 PM) Have we ever seen those two women before? Not as far as I can tell.

Well, the writers certainly pulled a fast one on us. We have yet more questions that need answers. This show drives me bonkers.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 14, 2007 -> 11:20 PM) Cubs have more talent than the Sox this year....of course, that's what happens when you spend 300 million in an offseason. I highly disagree. The Cubs rotation and bullpen would get roasted in the American League. Their defense is nothing to be proud of either. Lee, Ramirez and Soranio is good, but I'd take the White Sox as a whole over the Cubs. Especially when Thome comes back and/if Konerko and Dye heat up. A hot 3/4/5 of Thome, Konerko and Dye is as good as anyone in the league.

My dad send me this in an e-mail today. Anyone know if this is true? PIN NUMBER REVERSAL If you should ever be forced by a robber to withdraw money from in ATM machine, you can notify the police by entering your Pin # in reverse. For example if your pin number is 1234 then you would put in 4321, the ATM recognizes that your pin number is backwards from the ATM card you placed in the machine. The machine will still give you the money you requested, but unknown to the robber, the police will be immediately dispatched to help you. This information was recently broadcasted on FOX TV and it states that it is seldom used because people don't know it exists. Please pass this along to everyone possible.

Link doesn't work. That game is boring anyway. The only point of the game is to level up. That's stupid. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion > World of Warcraft

Foggy Mountain Banjo by Flatt & Scruggs is the best pluckin' banjo/bluegrass album ever made.

Uribe is not a #2 hitter. But Tererro over Sweeney baffles me in every phase of the mind. It baffles me more than the question, "Just how big is the universe?" or "What if there was no universe?" or "What is the meaning of life?" or "Is there a God?" or "What if Earth broke away from its current gravetational pull around the sun?" or "What is the fastest possible speed?" or "Did I turn the oven off?" I just don't get it.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 13, 2007 -> 11:08 PM) KW tried to balance both competing and rebuilding for the future during the offseason. That doesn't work in this day and age with big contracts. We went from having one of the more talented teams in the AL to closer to the middle of the pack. You're saying from last year to this year? If so, I disagree. The rosters are still nearly the same, but with two major differences: Danks over Garcia/McCarty and much of the bullpen. The Danks move has payed off extremely well. Same can be said for the bullpen. Aardsma, Sisco, Masset, MacDougal (though he was added last year at the deadline) have all come in and attributed in mostly positive ways. There just happens to be one other area that bit KW in the ass the past two years. Luck. Nobody excpeted the White Sox rotation to be as poor as it was last year. And nobody expected the White Sox offense to be as poor as it is this year. How does KW address that? Should he have forseen the .222 team batting average? Would merely replacing Scott Podsednik have fixed that? Or should they have thrown the flag in even before the season started and go young from the start? The "rebuilding" moves KW made in the off-season are what is saving this team right now. If the bats can ever find some life, this team is in far better shape to make a run at it than they were last year. Pitching is everything in baseball, and right now the Sox have it. It seems silly to me that 7 of the 9 hitters in the line-up will hover around the .200 line all year. But then again, nothing guarantees that the pitching will hold up either.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 13, 2007 -> 11:05 PM) If someone's giving you talent in return for Masset, you should have no problem with that trade. The only untouchable in our entire organization should be Danks. Probably, I just like him even despite his most recent outing.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 13, 2007 -> 10:49 PM) This is the first time in a long time I cant see any noticeable fixes out in the MLB. The only thing I can see is if we could get Crawford. That would help. But that would cost Danks and possibly everything in AA. No. If Ichiro could be had for a reasonible price, there's no reason the White Sox shouldn't jump at it. This means any prospects not involving the names Sweeney, Danks, Gonzalez or Masset. Anything outside that, I think the White Sox have to take the option into serious consideration. It could also give the Sox a heads up in offering him a new contract. The problem is that a lead-off hitter isn't the White Sox most pressing need right now. Erstad has been adequate enough--and unforutnately one of their better offensive players--and the team sorely lacks power. Konerko, Dye and Crede are absolutely awful thus far. Fact is, the offensive solution is already within the team. The question is will those players produce? But I'll always be giddy at the idea of having Ichiro in a White Sox uniform. The guy is a Class-A ball player. Great defender, great base runner, great lead-off hitter. If they think they have a legitimate chance at bringing him back for a few more years, I hope it happens.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 13, 2007 -> 10:41 PM) What a very cheerful ending to that episode. I mean, everyone got what they want; Johnny's series is a hit; Turtle gets the girl; Vince and Eric get what they want . The season finale has to be either next week or the following week, but whenever it is, I can't imagine everything working out roses like it did this week. Entourage busted out a few new moves tonight. Was a surprisingly emotional episode. I've always thought that in the end Drama would end up carrying the crew while Vince fell flat on his back. I have a feeling that's what's going to happen with his "dream project." Haven't there been rumors that they're trying to cut Vince out of the show? Seems like a good way to do it...

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 12, 2007 -> 11:39 PM) Does anyone here work for the government? I have a friend who is interning with the government and I have been looking into various options (go back to school for my MBA) or try my career at the government level and I was curious as to whether anyone has worked for the government and what there experience was. My background is in accounting and I currently work for one of the big "4". However, I'm always looking into other possibilities and I must admit I'm intrigued with the idea of the 5/4/9 workweek (you work 9 hours a day, plus one 8 hour a day shift for 9 days and get a day off every two weeks). Plus from what I was looking at it appears there are 10 holidays, 13 vacation days and 13 sick days a year (starting and I guess you get more vacation time as you stay with the government) in addition to a great pension plan. One of the main things I am curious are the chances of promotion because If I were to leave my job (one where I know if I stay I will get promoted and promoted or fired if I'm not meeting there standards) I'd want to make sure I could continue a steady climb wherever I went. Another concern was pay as I know in the past the government just didn't seem to pay as competitively as private business, but I also know the gov have recently up the pay for many of there positions (accounting positions being one of them) and I'm starting to think there benefits (is it something like full pension after 25 years of service???) mixed in with other stuff could make it something worth while (for someone who absolutely is beginning to hate working long hours). So anyone have any experience with this or the MBA approach (ie the type of jobs you can look for coming out of an MBA; I know I read about the average salary an MBA makes starting but I wonder if those things really are that realistic). I wonder if they hire based on one's understanding of the differences between their, there, and they're. If so, you got no chance.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 12, 2007 -> 08:26 PM) "The hitters are just putting too much pressure on themselves." "It's not technically summer yet, so it's okay we're not hitting." "It's a domino effect -- one hitter starts pressing, and then the other guy starts pressing. Poor guys!" "Injuries!" Am I missing anything? Yea, "This offense f***ing sucks." -
Saw The Avett Brothers on Conan last night. Had never heard of them, thought the song they played was decent so I went to check them out. Turns out they're pretty damn good.

That's a pretty decent machine. The laptop keyboard and touchpad get some taking used to, but I don't think I can ever go back to a mouse and hunky keyboard again.
