QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Jan 16, 2005 -> 11:31 PM) Wow 19 of you picked the Colts? Home-field and history just thrown away so easily. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thats what happens when 90% of the board are young kids who nothing about the sports in general.

QUOTE(Beastly @ Jan 16, 2005 -> 03:03 PM) I'd love to. PM me to play sum time... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> sure thing, great. There aren't many people who won't quit if they start losing, it will be good to play someone with some decency for a change.

That was fast. I vision Randy Johnson imploding just like Kevin Brown did last season. Welcome to New York you jackass. -

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 9, 2005 -> 03:14 PM) Boston's version of jay mariotti? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That seems like a good analogy for you Chicagoians. The guy made millions for years creating the curse, now that the Red Sox have won the world series, it will be interesting to see what crap he comes up with next year. If just looking at him doesn't make you angry, I don't know what does. -

The reason this was a complete non-issue up until the past couple of days? It's easy Dan Shaunessy is the worst thing to happen to the Boston Globe, ever. He single handedly created what once was the curse, and now without having a damn thing to write about he has to stir more lame controversy. Unbelievable. -
My favorite New Jersian in the world. Your a great poster, have an awesome birthday.

QUOTE(quickman @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 11:55 PM) The damn new board format is a bit different. i wasn't responding to you. Who knows who I am responding to anymore. Hit one button, then hit another. net net, this whole timo discussion should be another damn thread. Timo has nothing to do with Signing AJ. its unrealistic to draw the inference. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> We'll see. There is no excuse for not signing Pierzynski currently, if you can find one i'll listen.
-
QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 11:48 PM) We have more money left to spend than what he is asking for. So that is why resigning timo does not affect us signing pierz. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You don't offer a player of Pierzynksi's caliber under three million dollars unless your financially burdened. 700,000 as little as it seems is a big difference.
-
QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 11:46 PM) Yes, I know. We don't know for certain how much is guaranteed. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This isn't the NFL here. He will be making one million dollars next season. Guaranteed money.
-
QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 11:42 PM) They haven't even started to pay Timo Perez yet, none of us know the specifics of his contract. Lots of guys are moved in Spring training, he may not even be on the team. I don't see the connect between Perez's contract and getting or not getting Pierzynski. In terms of baseball payrolls it's a very small amount. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He avoided arbitration and signed a one year deal worth one million dollars.

QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 09:28 PM) Ohhhh that kind of boxer.... Damn it! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I know, right. Here I am thinking that MOS is going to be posing in a pair of boxers.
-
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 11:27 PM) The only way Timo Perez effects the White Sox signing AJP is due to him potentially blocking a spot on the 40-man...and there are things that can be done to get others off(trades, DFA'ing guys, among other possibilities). Timo Perez being on the team will have absolutely nothing to do with whether or not AJP signs with us...unless Timo said something about AJ's mom <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So wait.. Are you Kenny Williams? some White Sox insider? possibly Pierzynski's agent?
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 09:20 PM) I completely disagree about Timo but we'll just have to agree to disagree this topic has been overdone. Anyways going onto A.J. not to worried about this yet, sure maybe he wants 3 mill but maybe the sox have the best offer on the table right now and he's just hoping to get that money. Anways I do agree with you guys that aj is definitely worth 3 mill, we'll see what happens though. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't care how overblown it is. There is no reason for Timo to be making what hes making nor is there any reason for him to even be in the major leagues. As has been said, he would be lucky to tag along with any team, no less a team that will be vying for a World Series crown. Again, I don't mind him on this team but if it means signing Pierzynski, I am quite upset. So all I ask for is your opinion on why you "completely disagree."

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 09:10 PM) To cover the Timo topic... I do think Timo is overpaid at $1 mill...had he been non-tendered, he would have gotten a minor league contract from some team and may not have made their MLB roster. However, him being overpaid by $500,000 is not going to kill our chances getting AJP. The Sox, as of right now, still probably have about $6-7 mill they can spend in FA....however, they will want some of it to be available so they can fill a need at the trade deadline if necessary. If they need say a very good reliever or a very good starter, and one becomes available, they will have the resources financially to get that player. Also on the topic of Timo...he is terrible. I would imagine that we'd be pretty damn lucky to trade him and get anything that could be worthwhile. He doesn't hit well, he isn't fast, he doesn't field well, his arm is good but he is sometimes slow to release the ball(and Jamie Burke knows that all too well)...and that clutch argument is garbage. I don't care if a guy can hit late in the game...if he can hit late in the game, why in the hell can't he hit early in the game? Regarding the offers to AJP and Taguchi...I hope we get them. I do think there is a decent chance we get AJP, but I personally doubt we get Taguchi...he was reportedly looking for Kaz money, and the Sox weren't(or shouldn't be) offering him that...they shouldn't offer him half of that. I'm pretty sure Kaz got somewhere around $7 mill a year...the most the Sox should go with Taguchi is $3 mill. If we offer him $3 mill, and that's the best offer he receives, he will likely head back to Japan. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Excellent post.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 08:32 PM) That is incorrect. The Sox knew that A.J. had cleared waivers a few days before we resigned Ben Davis. Anyways, if it's true that we're not offering enough money, then I can confidently say we won't be getting A.J. KW said we weren't going to get into a bidding war for him, and Pierzynski will definitely get 3 million from some other team (Dodgers, Pirates, etc.) Would anyone argue with me that we have the worst catching core in the majors now? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It was purely rumor at the time of Ben Davis' resigning. Pierzynski was still a Giant and had yet to be non-tendered.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 07:50 PM) Todd Hollandsworth was given a deal by the Cubs that could be worth as much as $1.7 Million, and Mohr signed for $900,000 and both are in a situation where they can compete for a starting job. You are concerned about missing out on AJ by $500,000. Find me an outfielder who will cost no more than $500,000 and will eb more productive than Timo in a bench role. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Joe Borchard, Alex Escobar within the team, although there are others available.
-
QUOTE(TheDybber @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 07:40 PM) Where'd you get .420 ops...it's a whopping .623!! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That must have been the "clutch" fodder that ace tried feeding me last night. Oops.
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 07:34 PM) Gotta disagree with ya on one thing. No way is Joe Borchard better then Timo. Sad but true. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'll take his .590 ops over Timo's .420 ops anyday of the week.. then again they both are horrible, horrible players.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 07:29 PM) Reserve outfielders are a dime a dozen. Hell, the week after we signed Timo for one million, two other reserves in D. Mohr and Hollandsworth, who are a lot better than Timo, signed for base contracts which were cheaper. Another thing about a reserve outfielder is that you want them to be good enough on defense where they can be brought in as a defensive replacement if needed. Timo has a good arm, but his range in the outfield is pathetic. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ..but Timo Perez tied a game in Anaheim in a White Sox loss! he's so clutch! :rolly By the way, that game was Ross Gload's doing, not Timo's.
-
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 07:24 PM) :headshake So then who is our reserve outfielder? Borchard, or Escobar? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Plenty of good options. If it meant Pierzynski, I would be fine with Borchard as a reserve outfielder. Let's be honest here, Joe Borchard had a better season last year than Timo Perez.
-
QUOTE(3E8 @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 06:13 AM) I seriously hope we don't let 500k get in the way of us signing AJP. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> As do I. We'll see. Money talks.
