Crazy that this 2021 playoff starting lineup was only 3 years ago: Tim Anderson, SS (DFA’d) Yoan Moncada, 3B (IL obsession) Jose Abreu, DH (DFA’d) Yasmani Grandal, C (barely hanging onto MLb career. Is bad) Luis Robert, CF (Only bright spot left) Eloy Jimenez, LF (IL obsession) Gavin Sheets, 1B (L) (Bench player) Adam Engel, RF (out of baseball) Leury Garcia, 2B (DFA’d) WTF happened these knuckleheads?

Those 2 amateur scouts employed by the White Sox will likely be extremely busy these next 4 weeks.
-
I’d be okay with it as long as they were hyper focused on a legit baseball manager. Schumaker earned the 2023 NL manager of the year award. He wasn’t a bench coach for a dogcrap team or anything like that. To your point though, it’d be nice if they added a few more reputable names to a narrowed down search. As of now, he’s the only name being linked to the White Sox. Albeit it’s extremely early in the process and we still have another grueling 3 months of losing baseball ahead of us.

He continuously questioned Jerry’s hiring of Getz last year. Brought up Getz poor track record of development of talent when he was the director of player development from 2017-2020. He also ripped into the 2023 White Sox disaster quite a bit. When he interviewed Kenyan Middleton and Lance Lynn last year on his podcast, both of those guys exposed the dysfunction of the White Sox clubhouse and on field effort last season. It’s kind of funny and ironic that the manager that let all of that happen last season is still around this season to oversee the worst White Sox team in history. Either Getz is extremely great friends with Pedro from his KC days OR Jerry is very stubborn and refuses to pay two managers at once when this season doesn’t mean anything anyway. Regardless of the reasoning, keeping Pedro around for two consecutive 100 loss seasons shows you just how low the White Sox standard is. Grifol shouldn’t be allowed to manage these prized prospects that are close to graduating to the main roster. The way he handled Colas last season was embarrassing. The double standard he shows the young guys vs the lazy veterans on this team is a joke. #FirePedro

I brought up Schumaker because Nightengale also mentioned him being a disciple of LaRussa back in his Cardinal playing days. We all know TLR will have a huge influence on the next managerial hire.
-
And it’s extremely clear on why they did. Smart move from JR’s favorite non white Sox franchise.
-
This time I would be more than happy with the current KC manager, an old Tampa Bay bench coach from an advanced metric based organization. Matt Quatraro is an excellent manager. KC made the right call with that hire. Makes you wonder why KC didn’t even consider making their own bench coach a manager, yet our former front office thought he was so amazing. ? ?

Very true. Who in Jerry’s inner circle does he like the most these days.. ? We know back in 2020 it was TLR. Perhaps his old player crush, Harold Baines wants in on the managerial position?
-
This would be the most white sox thing to do for sure. Bring a dude back after consecutive 100+ loss seasons. ? Embarrassing!
-
I think it’s safe to say there will be a new skipper in the dugout next season. I heard Nightengale already name drop Skip Schumaker as a potential candidate. Supposedly he wants out of Miami? I’m curious to see who you guys think might be available and/or would be someone Getz will be interested in?

How much is a guy like Fedde worth in a trade?
GreatScott82 replied to ron883's topic in Trade Winds 2024
I would never clone an owner who thinks a successful season is coming in 4th place! The guy only values profit margins. He doesn't give a crap about White Sox fans or his product on the field. If he did, he wouldn't have been so lazy with his GM hiring approach. The dude sucks! "Sports is a business of failure but the fact that you finish second or third or fourth it doesn't mean you had a bad year." -Jerry Reinsdorf -

Oh I'm well aware.... This organization is stuck in 2006. Anyone come up with a fountain of youth yet? And a clone machine? If so, give Jerry what he desires!! 26 cheap David Ecksteins!!! -

In a perfect world, Getz would come out and acknowledge the fans and say this is a true rebuild with a goal competitive window beginning in 2027. The roster and farm system has way too many holes to address in one free agency cycle. And as you mentioned, Jerry not only hates to spend on difference making free agents (A-level talent) But the B-level guys that his front office typically signs usually end up sucking badly. I will never understand why they haven’t pivoted from this horrible approach yet? Why not tank for 2 more seasons, load up on pre-arb/cheap and awesome talent via a true rebuild and sign the top 3 to 4 free agent superstars (A-level/blue chippers) when they become available between the years 2025-2027. No more mediocre joe signings. I would rather give opportunities to young prospects verses the expensive B/C type veteran who declines rapidly after they get paid. Allocate that $$ on the blue chippers. Also, don’t feel the pressure lock up the new core too soon this time. So much $$ wasted on underperforming talent you simply can’t count on. -
White Sox "actively seeking" packages for Robert
GreatScott82 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Trade Winds 2024
Man.. this franchise really did hit rock bottom. I can’t believe they are entertaining trading their best player. My question is, why on earth didn't they entertain offers during the winter? His value likely dropped because of the stupid injury. I’m assuming most teams will give lowball offers because of the injury. Getz can’t afford to screw this one up. He needs multiple bidders, perhaps 2-3 teams in the same division outbidding each other. 3 top 100 prospects shouldn’t be out of the question here. Definitely need 1 top 25 prospect back IMO to justify such move. -
Yep. Nothing against Getz. But the whole, “I don’t want to hire an outside GM to take over the program because it will take them a year.” sentiment was complete nonsense. It was a disingenuous way of saying, “We don’t want outsiders to see how behind we are as a franchise and I don’t want to go outside of my country club of baseball people to fix my team, also I’m old and lazy.” It’s amazing how shitty and irrelevant this franchise has become. It’s actually quite sad. Sox fans deserve better and it sucks we won’t get that until Jerry leaves. It’s like we’re getting held hostage by a billionaire tight wad.

Schriffen says he was aiming at “Sportscasters”

Maybe Soxfest? Apparently after 5 years, its coming back! Yahooooooo!!!! -
The Sox are in the beginning phases of an Oriole type depression (see their records from 2017-2021). They are at a minimum 4 years away from realistically being relevant again. Once Robert is healthy and smashing again- you have to entertain phone calls.

Well said. Gordon Beckham mentioned on the CWS talk podcast awhile back that Getz indirectly ackowledged that Hahn/KW held onto their 'core' players too long. Getz told Beckham that he wants to be able to maximize on a players return values earlier rather than waiting. The tricky part is all of these damn injuries for these broken/expensive players. It's hard to unload bad contracts to guys made of glass. The key to fixing this thing is from the bottom up. The farm system needs to acquire multiple blue chippers and perhaps finally learn how to scout and develop their own homegrown talent. Something that the Sox just never do. Another immediate fix would be for Jerry to sell, but since he would be too bored in his final years, Sox fans will be hanging out in pergatory until his final days arrive.
-
Pedro Grifol's managerial skills are beginning to make Terry Bevington look like Bruce Bochy and Robin Ventura look like Bobby Cox. It's a sad day when I would rather have one of Bevington or Ventura back on the bench over the guy currently there. ?

Is it wrong to want the Sox to embarrass themselves?
GreatScott82 replied to reiks12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Even if the White Sox lose 120 games, if Jerry nets some sort of profit for him and his investors, he will consider it a successful season. He could care less about White Sox fans or winning. This franchise desperately needs new ownership. Once the Cubs got Ricketts, I knew they were going to be 10x better for it. We need someone as committed as Ricketts. Not an absentee landlord who refuses to sell the franchise because it's his hobby. If this is his hobby, he is pretty horrible at it. -
Let’s not forget Pedro was the manager of last years circus ? He was the man in charge of that locker room of dysfunction. Because Jerry wanted to save a few pennies, he gets to stay in charge this season? WOW. That’s dogcrap. Getz has already saved Jerry millions with his roster destruction. Fire his ass and let’s move forward.
-
He wasn't complaining about his salary or treatment from the Sox. He was simply stating that the Sox had many excuses to not add onto the roster during its peak competitive window (Very small window, I may add). Ryan McGuffey has done an excellent job voicing this same frusteration on the White Sox talk podcast. Jerry simply refused to pay market value for free agent superstars that would've likely increased the chances multiple playoff series wins. Sad. That was his golden opportunity to correct the narrative of him being "cheap". Sadly, it was Jerry's choice to stand pat with the players he had. Jerry will never ever sign a blue chip free agent. The last one he did sign was Albert Belle and that was almost 30 years ago.

3/31 GT - Sox vs. Tigers (1:10pm)

What are the odds this tremendous organization lands that 11th pick in the 2025 mlb draft? -
SD Top Prospects I definitely want 2 of these top 5 dudes. Getz was demanding a blue chipper.
-
I think it’s safe to say that Jerry won’t be the one giving out any more competitive offers for the White Sox. It will be the next majority owner. Jerry is still probably sick to his stomach that the Sox paid Andrew Benintendi $75 million. The dude hates spending big $$ and will never match the going rate for premium A level free agents. And since the last 2 starting pitchers he gave above average contracts to ended up failing (Danks and Keuchel), Jerry won’t ever spend big $$ on starting pitching again. I’m still shocked they offered Zack Wheeler a larger contract than Philly. Jerry must of had his favorite glass of red wine that day. He also was probably thrilled that Wheeler declined. Just like he was also thrilled when Machado declined that ridiculous incentivized loaded contract. Modern baseball economics completely surpassed Jerry’s expectations and ways of handling an organization. It’s time for a new ownership group.
