QUOTE(Texsox @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 12:59 PM) Interesting that the players and coaches voted him #2. I tend to believe the player votes more than the fan votes. It is impossible to compare player contracts. When Lee signed his, he wasn't an All-Star. Do you think if he was negotiating today he would have the same contract? Plus each contract goes through stages where players are under paid then over paid. It is rare when a contract exactly matches what a player is "worth". The fact is Konerko is going to get paid somewhere around 10 million this offseason and well he is just not worth it. And I tend to believe my own eyes and watching Konerko every sox game over athletes who only really pay attention to their own team and current opponent. I think its pretty obvious it would be smarter to save the money and not give Konerko and let 1B go to one of Dye, Rogo, or Gload.

QUOTE(Y2HH @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 12:15 PM) I liked this trade from the start. I sometimes think we should go back to the original trade thread and see some of you whiners crying about losing Lee and gaining nothing. to all of you. I think almost 90% or more didnt like the trade when it first happened. I still wish we would of been able to deal Konerko somehow instead... although if we did we most certainly wouldnt of got Podsenick.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 12:28 PM) The need would be for an All-Star caliber first baseman. Even though he made the all star team that doesnt mean much. Didnt Jason Giambi make the all star game last year.......Seriously Konerko is so overated among sox fans its not even funny.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 10:46 AM) He's got to be pissed. But as we all know, money talks. Im a little confused though, Can't teams not sign players right now and all deals would basicly be verbal agreements until a certain date? -
QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 10:31 AM) Except the trade deadline is only 24 days away. I still see the sox adding a proven impact arm to the pen. Jenks may be the Sox "K-Rod" [a rookie having a big impact on a team's playoff run]. Yet that type of rookie impact is very rare. The type of stuff Jenks has is very rare 2. How many guys do you know that can throw the ball 100 mph. Now count that up and count how many guys you know who can do that but yet it isnt even their best pitch.

Nate Mcmillian to coach portland
GoodAsGould replied to Spod=Ratings's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
yeah that is a huge shocker, Id thought he would of ended up resigning even if Ray Allen was brought back. If we did end up losing Scott Skiles he was the guy I wanted us to make a push for too. -
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 08:17 AM) Apparently, the first installment of this experiment was a success. We'll have to monitor this one and see if it continues this year. I hope he gets some more games at 1st. If he can handle it that has to lead you to believe Konerko is gone which as much of a fan favorite he is I think it will be good losing him, if for nothing else save some money. Ive said it once and ill say it again this upcoming offseason is going to be a huge one. I guess it could be small but id take an off-season of signing Garland long term, picking up Politte's option, losing Konerko, Timo, and Carl. Resigning Frank for as long as he plans to play. And than signing Pieryznski long term as well. I know its a bit early but here is my ideal 2006 major league team. C: AJ Pieryznski 1B: Jermaine Dye 2B: Tad Iguchi SS: Juan Uribe 3B: Joe Crede LF: Scott Podsenick CF: Brian Anderson RF: Aaron Rowand DH: Frank Thomas Bench: C: Chris Widger 1B/OF: Ross Gload Utility: Pablo Ozuna 2B: Willie Harris OF: ???? Starters: Mark Buehrle Freddy Garcia Jon Garland Contreras El Duque Bullpen: Dustin Hermanson Cliff Politte Neal Cotts Damaso Marte Bobby Jenks B-Mac(get some major league experiance starter next year)

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 09:47 AM) Don't look now, but Borchard is starting to hit in Charlotte. Even though he has done nothing but suck in the majors. I really like rooting for Borchard he seems like a great guy that always gives his best. If we werent so stacked with OF's in the minors Id say it would of been worth keeping hold of him.
-
Im pretty sure this guy is here to stay, if he can prove he can handle the big leagues our bullpen is already good enough that we wouldnt need to add anyone. I mean think about it, playoffs a rotation of Buehrle, Garcia, Garland, and El Duque... bullpen of Hermy, Politte, Cotts, Marte, Jenks, Contreras, and than one of Shingo or Viz. I think that bullpen is fine since you basicly got hermy, politte, cotts and contreras who should all be dominant and than Marte if healthy could even be the best of all of them and Shingo would be very useful in the WS against a NL team. Unless we trade for a starter which Im begining to think isnt happening. Schmidt from all accounts isnt what he used to be and if thats true its not worth what it will take to get him. And now Oswalt is basicly off the market since the Astro's are making another run and I think Oakland might want to keep Zito since their recent resurgence. He might not be as good as K-Rod, but I think Jenks can basicly be for us what K-Rod was for the angels... if he is good we can shorten the game to 5 innings for our starters in the playoffs... 6 Jenks, 7 Cotts, 8 Politte, 9 Hermy.... not saying that we yank the pitcher after 5 but man that bullpen would be awesome especially if marte is healthy.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 08:56 AM) What is loaiza thinking trying to win the game? Stupid loaiza was never taught hitting a guy for retalliation is more important than a win. :headshake Didnt Guillen get mad last year when he got hit in a game vs toronto? He seems like he is a very passionate guy, I bet if he was a pitcher he would be like Pedro lol.

It has to be the Nats, I mean if they kept Vazquez and Vlad I would of expected this but when your big f/a's are guzman and castilla neither who has been that good and your this much improved. Well Guillen is a big boost but than Vidro has also been injured for practically the whole season.

I dont know much about college guys or highschool guys but i kind of wanted us to draft carillo because ive seen him on tv b4 and he looked good plus the fact he is a sox fan and top it off a good sinker fastball... but Broadway has looked good so far i guess.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 03:30 AM) 2 Curveballs tonight. The first was with 2 strikes to Crawford got him to ground out to 1st. The second was with 2 strikes to Lugo, got it down, swing and a miss, for the strike out. 18 pitches, 11 strikes, 16 fastballs, 2 curveballs. Oh yeah i forgot about the last one to Lugo was only thinking if crawford... with Lugo I was only thinking of how bad he looked

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 03:35 AM) Paul Konerko will re-sign as the Sox 1Bman. Frank Thomas will be back as the DH and Dye will play RF. Carl Everett may be gone, but then again maybe not. Rumor is that he might be on the trading block. Brian Anderson and/or Joe Borchard will be the 4th and/or 5th OF'er. Timo will be gone also so the question will be do we sign a reserve IF'er or have the 5th OF'er? Dye will not be playing at IB. I love Frank Thomas, but to say PK will not be there simply because Thomas hit the homer last night only goes to show that old saying, "what have you done for me lately." Lately in this case meaning last night. We shouldn't think so negatively or be so near sighted. Ok, for one Joe Borchard is probably as good as gone, Brian Anderson isnt going to be the 4th OF, if he doesnt start in the big leagues which I think he will than he will stay in Charlotte. And no one is really saying Frank should stay just because of the HR... Frank should stay because of the impact he has on this offense and the fact he is a >>> hitter than Konerko.
-
QUOTE(farmteam @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 02:44 AM) 2 Ks. Not bad. Only a walk. Nice debut. I think he threw all fastballs except for 1.
-
make that 11 HR's in 18 hits
-
QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 01:19 PM) he has queitly been the best offensive player on this team imo I wouldnt say that, maybe recently but not overall for the whole season.
-
Is Frank as good of a hitter Vlad is... no, but id argue Frank is just as important to our offense if not more than Vlad is to his. Did you guys remeber our offense without Frank. Its crazy to think we won so many games without him when we would be so helpless offensively, Konerko, Dye, Uribe, Rowand, Crede, and Everett werent hitting anything b4 Frank returned and now that he is back everyone is starting to hit again even Crede has been pretty good and Dye has turned into a machine and Konerko has been great.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 06:32 AM) Here's his new poster. Someone who actually knows how to photoshop can insert Jermaine's head on this. BTW. If you've actually seen that movie you just scored MAJOR cool points with me. Thats actually a scary ass movie.

Uncle Lou gonna try something different
GoodAsGould replied to JDsDirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I cant believe that article called him a bad manager.... In my opinion there are 3 managers that are >>>>> than the rest... Loue Piniella, Frank Robinson, and Bobby Cox..... the other 27 managers couldnt hold their jock straps when it comes to managing. -
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 05:34 AM) Just a comparison; Dye - .275/.333/.542 Hidalgo - .207/.281/.405 the funny thing is Crede has better numbers than Hidalgo which would be the better comparison since they are both #8 hitters I think. Anyways after his horrible start Dye has really turned it on and I think this is good on 2 levels. the 1st being a course he is going to help us continue in our winning ways and hopefully on the way to a world series. the 2nd being it gives us a lot of flexibility this offseason. We can trade Dye to open up a spot for us and that would be a lot better if Dye had a good year we could get something good in return, It gives us the option of trading Anderson since we have Dye for another year and than by that time one of sweeney, owens, young should hopefully be ready or if Frank leaves Dye can fill in at DH for a year to fix that hole.
-
Crede's glove is way way overated on these boards, he is good with the glove but some of you put him at the same level as like Rolen.
-
did I say not getting more money makes sense, Even if Jordan does bad in college and likelyhood is he is going to do good, He is going to get a big contract when he enters the draft. Now if his brother John Danks didnt already get the 2.1 million his family could of said we needed the money and les not risk an injury going to college.

Bucks Seeing Redd Through 2011
GoodAsGould replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Id resign with the Bucks, If TJ Ford is back and also with the addition of Bogut they are going in the right direction, and they also have to have loads of cap room even if they resign Redd so prob can add another good player.
