QUOTE(3E8 @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 12:36 AM) Kordell Stewart He might of sucked with us but in his prime Kordell was one hell of an athlete and really is above and beyond anyone else mentioned here except for Jordan a course

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 01:35 AM) Just think Juan Gonzalez minus the nagging injuries. If thats true we got ourselves a hell of a prospect.... Gonzalez was probably the best hitter along side Frank in the 90's b4 his injuries. I hope he has a better attitude 2

The only thing that might stop KW from getting a starter is chemestry... because im sure El Duque wont be happy being bumped from the rotation and that could affect Contreras greatly if El Duque is mad. Than again if El Duque accepts being in the bullpen and we add Schmidt ill finally be in love with this team, Even though we are 1st and kicking ass I cant grow attached to this team for some reason... idonno maybe it was just the super low expectations i had for them coming into the season.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 10:36 PM) You're kidding yourself if you think we would have signed the guys with Lee on the team. we might of not signed all of them... but im guessing AJ still and El Duque... but probably not Tadahito.... and really I dont think if you let Willie start everyday there would be a huge drop off...dont get me wrong there would be a drop off but not as big as some of you would like to think. Btw my reasoning for this is we supposedly still have money so than that would be for El Duque and than Viz makes about as much if not more than AJ I think and willie is getting paid a lot less than Tadahito.

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 09:36 PM) Tell That to the Marlins, Angels and Red Sox.. Well the Marlins had a very experiances manager, the red sox have been in the playoff plenty of times since the wildcard era and the Angels... they well they got lucky and faced a 1 man giants team.

Yeah I think everyone knew Verlander was going to be a stud the moment the tigers drafted him... he might even be a starter for the big league team next year. Him and Bonderman will be a great 1-2 punch for them in the future.

he got promoted.... I think he should of started the season in AAA but with his injury and not really coming back strong from what I saw what was the reason for promoting him now?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 06:36 PM) It's not just that. It's the pitcher's spot being a nearly-automatic out. When a pitcher comes up in the batting order, it's a dead spot. It's a bunt if there's runners on, which hurts the chances at a big inning. It makes sure that you have an out at any point in your inning. It also robs you of guys off of your bench because you need to PH for the pitcher's spot. It also makes you throw less pitches. What's the ideal thing for a pitcher to do in the NL in a lineup? Start off the inning with the pitcher - because then you get the easy out, and then you're facing the leadoff man with already 1 out, and it's much harder for the other team to start a rally. One of the guys at ESPN did the numbers on this a few months ago...I can't find the actual link, but his number was that on average, almost every pitcher who goes from the NL to the AL sees his ERA increase by over .9 runs, and the exact opposite is found when they move the other way. That might be true for an average pitcher.... But I dont consider Schmidt an avg. pitcher and i would expect his era to be in the 3's if he has returned to form.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 06:28 PM) That's funny, you seem to have no clue what I am saying. Maybe I should type slower? Refer back to the Soriano for Arod deal. Why would Texas trade the best player in baseball at a premium position for Soriano? Is the GM of Texas just stupid? It IS about the money. We got essentially $7 million in return to go with those players. If we had demanded all of these other players from Milwaukee to get a talent package equivelant to Carlos Lee, Milwaukee would have never accepted the deal. One major component of the deal was Milwaukee absorbing $7 million in payroll costs that would would have had to meet. That allowed us to get all of those other players. How can you not consider that a part of the trade? What you are saying it is equal to saying that it is stupid to put on just one shoe... well no kidding, but you can't put them both on at the sametime, so you have to put them on one at a time, and that is exactly what they did with the Lee trade. You want some logic ok, A-Rod was being paid 25 million a year that is a whole lot different than what Carlos was being paid and Texas ate up some of that contract in the trade 2.... the A-Rod for Soriano deal isnt even close to the Clee for Podsenick one. And even if they ate up all of Clee's contract you still could get a lot more than Podsenick for him... because Hinton is a non-prospect and Vizcaino..... :puke The point of the matter is even with the brewers taking up all of Clee's contract we still should of been able to get much better talent in return, for example in that A-Rod for Soriano deal the Rangers also got this stud prospect SS I think...

QUOTE(Y2HH @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 06:13 PM) Didn't I post on this once already? We HAD Lee for years and won...oh, thats right...we didn't win anything, Minnesota did. This year, we are winning...because we have balance. Lee is just another power hitter. We have plenty of power, WITHOUT Lee. This team plays baseball, the past three years our team played batting practice. This years team > Last 3 years combined. Now STFU about Lee, dumbasses. You're annoying. Lee wasnt the reason we didnt won, thats kind of dumb to think that. Here is the reason we never won in the past.... Idonno maybe no 5th starter El Duque since he is our worse starter can be considered it and he is what 7-2... that has to be more wins from our 5th starter in the last 2-3 years alone. This year we are winning because we 5 good starters... up until lately our offense has been kind of pathetic for most of the season.

I dont think he was calling you stupid, because to call someone stupid you know only through a few posts on a message board... well is stupid. But your little cubs/sox idea of trading each others best players to one another when 1 team is out of contention, well that is a very stupid idea... It would be so wrong and if the Sox did that... I would find a new team to watch.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 06:02 PM) Because Carlos hits 3rd/4th in the lineup whereas Podsednik hits leadoff? Also, those runs stats are slightly skewed. Lee has had about 306 PA's this season, while Podsednik is right around 260. Given the same amount of AB's, the run differential is roughly 47-38. I'm not suggesting Vizcaino and Podsednik for Lee favored the Sox...because just considering the players, the Brewers got the better end of it. Consider that it freed up $7 mill in salary, which allowed the Sox to sign roughly AJP, Iguchi, and say, Hermanson to, and you consider that it is Viz/AJP/Iguchi/Pods/Hermanson for Lee, and I think you know who is the clear cut winner. the Brewers? Yes we all know that the point was to free up salary... but that doesnt mean we couldnt of got better players 2... Travis Hinton prob wont ever make AAA let alone the majors, we have seen how worthless vizcaino is, and Pods was coming off a year he only hit .242..... Im pretty sure a player like Clee could of got a lot more than that.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 05:24 PM) 1 other thing to toss into this discussion: Remember this, the usual rule of thumb is that when a pitcher moves from the AL to the NL, his ERA drops by 1 run. When a pitcher moves from the NL to the AL, his ERA goes up by roughly 1 run. This can vary a little, but when you get rid of the pitcher's easy out slot and have to face a powerful DH, that's the result. In other words...don't just look at National League ERA's and think they'll put up the same numbers in the AL. It will be 1 run worse per 9 innings, at least. I wouldnt say thats neccesarily true... The era will go up but 1 hitter isnt going to increase it by a whole run... most teams DH's arent even that great... you have Ortiz, Thomas, and Hafner... other than that its mostly avg. players.

QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 04:48 PM) you know this might sound utterly rediculous but i can never understand why the Cubs & Sox don't help each other over the hump especially when one is making a run and the other isn't...the cubs season is by no means over, but in the past couldn't these two teams just rent each others talent and then after the postseason just return to sender? i mean what is the mayor doing? as much as i would hate to see the cubs win...it would have been cool to see MB on the Cubs the year they gave away the WS to the Marlins, & how nice it would be to see prior for cubs fans this year pitching for the sox? there are guys out there that could break legs if the player wasn't returned...no? that is just so wrong :puke and not because it would help the cubs but because just doing that is wrong

QUOTE(Yossarian @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 04:37 PM) Cable TV, weights, exercise rooms and basketball courts, law libraries. and sometimes even conjugal visits and assorted contraband of the legal and illegal varieties. What do the dead cops get? Im pretty sure he will be in a high security jail so no TV...

QUOTE(TheBlackSox8 @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 06:17 PM) the action scenes were too short, and filmed to close to the actors. They were definitly weak. Idonno what movie you were watching I loved this movie, and thats saying something since I hated all the other batman movies with the exception when Jack Nicholas played joker.

while he is a messed up person he is still a person, and living in a little cell for 60 years while the guards probably treat him like s*** since he is a cop killer is much worse than being put to death. I say why waste all this money using lethal injection to kill people, these guys that are put in death row dont really deserve a peaceful death why not just do it the money saving way and just shoot them in the head... 1 bullet and saves a lot of money....

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 03:36 PM) You must be reading different newspapers and listening to different sports radio than me. Ozzie has not gotten a pass on anything he has said. Brad palmer? Magglio Ordonez? Frank thomas? Name me an issue that he has gotten away with. the only local reporter that ever gives Ozzie problems is Jay Marriotti and that would happen no matter what Ozzie would say, His other stuff it sparked up a lot of attention but like I said earlier most people enjoyed it than called him out for it.

Quentin richardson dealt to knicks...
GoodAsGould replied to qwerty's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
this sucks, i really enjoyed watching Q-Rich on that Suns team... well I guess its a good thing if you consider the Knicks are going to suck anymore... what are they doing over there first trade Nazr Muhamed who was having a good season and now Thomas... -
it probably wont happen, but I like the goal of 105 wins for this team...I just hope they dont work 2 hard during the season and get swept in the playoffs because although its something work off of it would be depressing.

No reason to believe Stone when it comes to sox making a trade, he isnt any different than us when it comes to insider info... hell i bet a couple people here would know about a trade b4 stone would.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 02:24 PM) Name me one time when Ozzie got away with something stupid that he said? I cannot think of one time when Ozzie said something controversial that he wasnt grilled in the local and national media immediately afterwards. Dusty gets the same "homeboy" treatment whether he likes it or not. What an ever-complaining nobody-likes-me/us b****, Dusty is such a whiner. Do you ever listen to his interviews? He says dumb stuff all the time, and when they show it on ESPN they always have mixed feelings about it but more guys seem to enjoy it than guys who dont.
-
Idonno he does have a point, Ozzie seems to get away with a lot of dumb s*** that he says... but i guess the antidote for getting away with dumb s*** is winning

the whole thing is stacked.... the cubs should have Derrek Lee, Neifi Perez, Aramis Ramirez, and Burnitz pitching they dont deserve anyone though
