GoodAsGould replied to qwerty's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
lol i didnt know he was going to start boxing I sure hope he is better at it than he is at basketball -
well Jason Schmidt is the closest thing we are going to get to Roger Clemens.... Astro's probably wont trade him just because of the fans he brings to the park and Clemens wont go anywhere besides the yanks or rangers. and with how El Duque has pitched, well Id say we definitly need an ace to anchor this staff along side Buehrle.... so Yes to Schmidt No to Lilly

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 05:17 PM) I agree. His last 10 games, he was becoming a beast. LeBron wants him according to ESPN. screw Lebron Eddy is ours, without him we have absolutely 0 post presence..... If we went into the playoffs with Tyson and Deng down instead of Eddy and Deng we would of easily beat the wizards. No offense to Tyson he is one of my favorites but Eddy would of been more useful that series.

QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 05:19 PM) On the topic of WS contenders. Yea, were a CONTENDER, but theres going to be 7 other contenders come October and we have to beat 3 of them. Not easy. well to be series bound you only have to beat 2 of them

I think Reed will become a .300 hitter by next year and well idonno about you guys but from what ive seen of him he looks like a stud in CF.... still he really isnt an upgrade over any of our current OF's and by the time we need a new one I consider Brian Anderson a better product, not 2 mention he gave us Freddy... only if the M's kept Ben Davis though.

i enjoy watching the mariners to watch past sox prospects like morse and reed and for a little olivo.... i guess thats the same reason I like to watch the pirates for Kip Wells and Josh Fogg... and Perez just because he is filthy

The thing about Curry he was really starting to hit a groove it seemed when he had to be disabled because of his heart.... And I think Skiles influence on him has gotten him to become a much better player and I think if his heart truly is not a problem and we do resign the giants we will see a huge huge improvement from them since last year. Good thing is Curry seems enthusiastic about working out

I think people who are down on Schmidt are just looking at this year stats.... guys this guy has been one of the best NL starters in the past 5 years 2nd only to RJ prob and now Clemens he is just having a bad start... but it looks like he has gotten back into a groove his last 2 starts and if he is healthy he would be our best pitcher in the playoffs above Buehrle.

QUOTE(iWiN4PreP @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 01:47 AM) the thing with crede tho it seems like when were winning 9-1 hill hti a 3-run homer, and then when tie game full bases hell popup Tho i have heard hes a pretty "clutch" player ... so i duno. and yes i LOVE credes defense well last year even though he sucked overall he had a lot of game winning hits especially early on it seemed.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 11:21 PM) How come I have to watch the Cubs post-game after a White Sox win, at the White Sox park, on a station that the Cubs share. Dont give me this "It was the Cubs broadcast" s*** either. There should have been both teams broadcast before and after the game. do you want to b**** a little more? They did the same thing last time which ever team was broadcasting on csn got the post-game show.

He is going to pitch when evr he would normally wherevr that lands him in our rotation... and if/when we make the playoffs he has to be our #1 or #2
-
damnit even though I never liked him much as a player I miss Jose Valentin when we play the cubs..... He should come back for 6 games a year

QUOTE(S720 @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 04:21 PM) Honestly, I keep on hearing people saying that BMAC will eventually be a good one for our beloved Sox. I have couple questions if you don't mind giving me answers to. 1. How do we know that he's going to be a good one? All I see is his terrible outings so far and his humongous ERA! 2. Since he is a rookie and would need some time to adjust to big league, then how come other rookie pitchers are and were doing much better than he is during their first year? Jerome Williams, D Willis, K Wood, M Prior and etc. I wish that BMAC will get back his ST pitching form. GO SOX... Well One thing Jerome Williams isnt doing 2 good anymore is he since he is in the minors and B-Mac doesnt have near the kind of stuff that Prior or Wood has or the deception Willis has.... Most pitchers dont come in and dominate your pointing out the exceptions.... And you never know if he is a good one but from seeing him pitch in the minors and seeing him pitch in the majors you know he isnt completely comfortable yet because he is scared to throw his change it seems... Dont forget he only had like 3-4 starts in AA so he practically skipped a level.. and he started last year in low A and now in the majors.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 02:53 PM) It's not a matter of getting a proven ace. Or not wanting one. But the Sox adding a SP who has a big contract when they already have 5 under contract [with Garland due a big raise] isn't smart for the future of the club. It's also a matter of filling all the holes with the available minor leaguers the sox have. The going rate per ESPN was 3 prospects for Schmidt [talking anderson, Bmac and a AA stud]. Where does the talent for getting a top bullpen arm come from then? Where do the minor leaguers come form getting a bench bat like JT Snow? Sox can make a move for the WS w/o selling the entire farm system When has KW ever looked at the future he is always about winning now and especially with this team almost a lock to make the playoffs even if they play .500 rest of the way you bet KW has his eyes on the gold. Once Gload comes back he becomes our good bench bat so dont need to worry about that and as for the bullpen arm, well when the playoffs start we go to a 4 man rotation of Schmidt, Buehrle, Garcia, Garland.... leaving both the Cubans in the bullpen to go along with Cotts, Politte, Marte, and Hermy. Basicly with the team we have now, id be happy if we went to the playoffs and at least won a playoff series... preferably even make the WS... but with Schmidt you have to expect at least you make the WS and almost expect to actual win the whole thing. We would have the best playoff rotation and bullpen with Schmidt. I know El Duque has been clutch in the past btw in the playoffs but this isnt the same El Duque of past... his whip is like 1.63 the past 2 years I think its been under 1.30.... And with the way he changes speed and uses different angles he would be awesome out of the pen.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 05:55 PM) When considering ESPN the Magazine you have to look at road attendance. It's a national magazine after all. Marlins #4 33,678/gm vs White Sox #24 26,955/gm road attendence is so dumb.... the only team it can really apply for our yankees, boston, and cubs since they actually draw crowds when they travel... other than that its a crap shoot because a course a team like toronto or baltimore are going to have a better road attendence since they face the yankees and red sox 9 times each while we face the royals/detroit/cleveland/minny all 9 times each and none of them are big attendence drawers.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 06:37 AM) Pods is part of a totally different dynamic. He's helped Iguchi benefit as much as himself because of the number of fastballs rolling up toward Tadahito. Idonno Iguchi has had to change his hitting aproach so much and than take some pitches that he might actually hit better without Pods in front of him. What most people dont realize is until I guess June came around our offense stunk and the reason we have been winning games have been thanks to outstanding pitching. If our pitching was this good last year we would of been just of good as a team if not better...

I guess El Caballo is happy being under .500

QUOTE(Rohan @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 06:06 AM) I mean i guess he's hot and cold sometimes.. But lately he's been doing alright.. Compared to the rest of the sox bull pen he's not doing out standing. But hey guys we're being spoiled by this bull pen... Vizcaino is better then the 5th go to guy on any other team.. which white sox are you watching.... Vizcaino is pitching horribly and on a lot of other teams would probably be cut or optioned...... -
QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 05:02 AM) BA has him as signed. MLB just screwed up. do you have a link where it shows all our signed players at BA or is it subscription only?

QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 04:43 AM) Make sure you are looking at the right Carter. We signed Vernon or Vince, whatever his name is, not Anthony Carter. 2005 Draft Picks B/T Ht Wt DOB Draft Round POS Signed Vernon C Carter R/R 6'4" 220 12/18/1986 15 3B - thats the one that is shown as not signed.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 04:55 AM) It's called a sophomore slump. You couldn't have really expected him to hit like he did in 2004. A sophomore slump is an excuse for young guys... he was what 28 last year.... He is actually a litle older than Clee I think....

QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 03:59 AM) Carlos Lee is a dumb, poor fielding baseball player. People here think he is something spectacular. I was begging the Sox to get rid of him. Podsednik is very arguably the most valuable hitter on this team. Honestly fielding wise Pods isnt that much of an upgrade.... Clee has made some great plays this season and has a good arm compared to Pods who has speed but reads the ball horrible so has late jumps and a weak ass arm.... As for hitting... well he has been one of our best hitters but going into the trade he had only 2 years of major league experiance his rookie hitting .300 plus and than last year .242.. and he wasnt that good of a minor league hitter so really I dont think anyone expected him 2 be hitting as well as he has. In the off-season most people knew that one of Clee or Konerko would be gone.... and I still say we would of been much better off if Konerko was the one that was traded..... We might of been able to get a guy like Pierre for him which at the time would of been better(no one knew pierre would slump like this)

QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 03:47 AM) Bristol wins in 12. They fell behind giving up 2 in the top half of the inning, but came back in the bottom half with 3 to win 7-6. They're 3-0. 4 errors for Bristol, 6 in the game. Ahh rookie ball, you suck so. Sanchez 0-4 with 3 Ks, but 2 walks and a run. Box Score Jim- Cunningham had played in both games before tonight, going 2-6 with a double, 2 RBI, and a run. weird it shows Carter in the box score but at mlb.com it doesnt say we signed him yet...

QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 03:51 AM) You're nuts. Im nuts because while we are still 1st it doesnt mean everything KW did is perfect... and overall im a KW backer but I definitely wasnt behind this trade.
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 02:51 AM) Even as one of Harris' biggest backers, you lose at least .125 SLG% points from the switch. OBP would probably be about equal, and you lose a little defense, but sure not enough to make up for the SLG% points lost... you lose a little defense? Willie's range is >>>> Iguchi's other than that diving play the last game Iguchi's range hasnt been near Willie's... yes you lose some power but do we really need all that power from our #2 hole especially if Clee is still in the lineup. BTW i still like this current team because we are obviously the best team in baseball right now but im just discussing the trade which i think we got ripped off.

my goals for this year is to show last year wasnt a fluke maybe get 50 some wins and win a playoff round....Realistically I think we can beat any team in the East besides the Pistons and Heat in the playoffs next year. A course this can all change if we dont resign Curry and if the Cavs add a big F/A to play with Lebron.
