  1. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 04:16 PM) and those pitchers who dont break in till 24, 25 etc usually aren't as good as those that break in at 20. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article....articleid=10095 Exit, in this case, meaning either no longer playing or transitioned from starter into reliever. Well no s*** the guys make the majors at 20 are usually more talented than the ones who make the bigs at 24. The question was where are your stats to show the prime years of a pitcher are 24-26?
  2. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 03:55 PM) A. Yeah, probably. If I had to pick I'd put him in the rotation over Humber. I wasn't really intending on turning this into an argument - it was just a "our rotation's really good" flippant kind of comment that y'all have gotten up in arms about. B. when he was 24-26. Peak years for a pitcher. But even in those years his SIERA was much higher than his ERA. Last year it was a bit lower, but it evens out to a 3.80-4.30 ERA with a 1.28-1.35 WHIP. Definitely useful, but not quite what a lot of us hoped Danks would be. That said, he's an awesome 3rd or 4th starter. A lot of pitchers don't even get into the bigs until 23-24 I have a hard time believing those would be the peak years... have any stats to back that up?
  3. Yeah I don't know what people expect out of a backup catcher that plays as rare as Flowers does.... he plays good defense and has thrown out baserunners anything more is gravy.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 09:13 AM) Yep. Remember the slam about how he slid into second, and the references to his worst guys who played for him? Another reason was Carlos Lee would constantly bash on Damaso Marte if my memory serves right.
  5. It is fireworks one night of the year, some random fireworks in middle of night is whatever..... so many whiners in the suburbs.
  6. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 12:46 PM) Yeah, both in like 2007 I believe. I think within a month or weeks from one another too.
  7. I think David Price wins this poll easy on any non-wsox board. This season you can go either way but long term at this point I don't know how Price doesn't have every vote.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 4, 2012 -> 12:43 PM) Look at all the problems the Rangers are having this year with Feliz, Ogando, Holland, etc. Seems like teams always suffer the year after that deep playoff run, unless they're a "superteam" who can sustain a couple of key pitching injuries. We saw this phenomenon firsthand in 2000-01, 2006, etc. If anything, we should be more worried about how hard Robin's pushing all the starters, particularly AJ. You just wonder how long they can hold up. It worked wonderfully for Ozzie to have his Sunday line-ups in 2005 and 2008, but the pendulum's really swung back the other direction, with our bench being perhaps the least utilized of any in the majors (and hard to fault Ventura, they're really just not that good that any of those guys should be pressing for additional playing time or starting roles). Feliz was a converted RP trying to be a starter and Holland pitched a normal starter innings last season. Ogando's injury is a strained groin and was having a good season don't see how any of those have to do with their deep playoff runs. Hell the guy who pitched the most for those 2 teams only is having the best season of his career now for the Angels. I will agree that AJ could probably use a few more days off or maybe at DH with Dunn at 1B a couple times given his age and the position but besides that this team is being managed perfectly imo.
  9. Thanks for tips, was definitely a good Wsox game to be at.
  10. I usually take the train to the games but tomorrow will be driving from the Schaumburg area. Game is at 7 10 so if anyone could give me an info what a good time to leave would be and if there is a certain route better to avoid traffic etc. would be much appreciated.
  11. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 10:38 AM) Am I bad guy for not liking this? What I mean is, is he out there on the mound thinking about this, trying to strike guys out? It's not like yesterday would have mattered, but I'd rather not have players donating money based on their own performance. He's got Twitter. He's got the Sox team PR dept. at his disposal. There are many ways to get the word out to donate to causes. Yes you are a bad guy.
  12. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 03:47 PM) Also, Humber deserves a shot over Axelrod, more or less regardless of what Axel does. Humber has shown the ability to do everything better than Axel. If he doesn't do everything better after a few starts, he'll find a new role. He has been in the majors for 5-6 years and has shown the ability of having a good 3 months once... that is hardly showing anything. If Humber rehabs and is throwing 0's in Charlotte maybe I'll have a change of heart but the fact the guy gave us anything is more than anyone can have expected and given his results this season not sure why people would want him back in the rotation.
  13. If Axelrod is pitching well I see no reason why you put Humber back in to suck for a few more starts to realize he isn't very good. This all can become moot if the Rangers beat around Axel next week anyways.
  14. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 08:39 AM) Axelrod's not going to be in the rotation longer than it'll take Phil or John to get healthy. As long as he keeps going out there and simply gives us a chance to win, that's all I'm asking for. If Axelrod pitches well vs the Rangers in his next start I think they would let him pitch over Humber. Danks returning would clearly take his spot but that still seems a month or so away.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 05:05 PM) Face it, none of the deals anyone has talked about involving either of those 2 really make sense for the other teams. That is true, I just hate how this current Bulls front office really haven't done a good job.... We lucked into Drose and Noah. Wish they could do something to put this team in a better position for future given Rose injury.
  16. So I take it all the trade Deng or Noah talks is over and we are just going to continue with this core and hope Rose can carry?
  17. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 04:30 PM) Nadal goes down in the 2nd round to #100 Lukas Rosol. Wow. Yeah, after the 4th set I thought Nadal was going to put the kid away but he didn't come close to breaking him in the 5th. Federer better be taking notice this is his chance to make history at Wimbledon and only 1 man should stand in his way instead of 2.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 02:12 AM) Not trying to flame or bait, merely a serious question and I'll provide my answer as well. Q - When you think of Bobby Jenks' White Sox days do you smile approvingly or frown? Do you think of Jenks fondly or think ill of him? A - I smile approvingly and think he had a helluva Sox career considering how most relievers nowadays implode after a few years (who are not named Rivera). I will always appreciate every member of the 05 team but Jenks is definitely a guy I do not care about at all and if he wasn't a key part of that team I'd probably dislike. I don't know him on a personal level but he seems like a guy I would not care to ever share a drink with.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 21, 2012 -> 02:05 PM) You had to wear it, DeAza, but your pitchers should have retaliated for you. It's bulls*** to let the Cubs nearly end Paulie's career and hit DeAza. The fact the Sox weren't still so pissed about Paulie to win the series tells me a lot about this team. It's going nowhere. Great great post. Pitching Stewart was an insult to every Sox fan alive. ANYBODY BUT ZACH is my motto. You try way too hard to be disliked
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 01:24 PM) Not based on how little this one grossed? This one was rated R so it hampered attendance from his biggest fans.
  21. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 16, 2012 -> 07:17 PM) Little Nicky wasn't bad. Think he meant box office wise.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 15, 2012 -> 01:28 AM) Name one manager who could have orchestrated the type of run we had in the 2005 postseason? Those who fail to credit Ozzie for having the right clubhouse attitude as we mauled everybody are ingrates IMO. The use of his starting pitching and refusal to over-manage, every move of his worked. He was important to our '05 run and yet many people seem to actually hate him. THIS AMAZES ME. Truly insane IMO. So it ended poorly. It's not like he was the only reason for our demise. Dunn, Rios, KW's idiotic moves like Manny and some ridiculous trades ... need I go on?? Really Ozzie is the only manager that would have won a world series with that team? I'd say over half the current managers in MLB today could of managed that team to the WS, the only magic move Ozzie did was putting El Duque in against Red Sox with bases loaded but that had lots of luck involved.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 14, 2012 -> 04:46 PM) I bolded the ones I liked. I think most would include Mr. Deeds and I'd include 50 first dates/The Longest Yards as all enjoyable movies. Sandler does miss big sometimes like Jack and Jill and none of his movies are going to be loved by critics but overall more than not it will be an enjoyable movie.
  24. I don't really care how many stars an Adam Sadler movie gets, can't imagine happy Gilmore or billy Madison were highly rated. Jack and Jill looked dumb but this one looks entertaining and I'll prob go see it.
