  1. I think knightni owes me props for this if true.
  2. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 08:03 PM) Mauer Willingham Morneau is a very scary 3-4-5 when they are all healthy. Plus Span leading off. Just because we swept them this week doesn't mean it will be a cake walk next week. You mention Span over Ben Revere?
  3. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 01:20 PM) Romero is very pricey, Liriano is injury-prone, Lannan and Maholm are not an improvement. Lannan does intrigue me from a "fix-em" approach for the offseason, though. Not sure how you want Blanton but than say lannan and maholm aren't an improvement. Romero is pricey but he is having a tough season and is a guy who can be a top of rotation starter with maybe a few adjustments and no duh on liriano. The top guys are off the market you can find flaws with anyone else but that's why their trade value isn't as high.
  4. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 12:33 PM) Joe Blanton would be a great underrated acquisition. I would not be a fan, I don't think Blanton gives us anything better than what we got with Humber outside maybe of a few more innings. If we going under the radar maybe the Wsox should look and see if the Nats will move John Lannan or Paul Maholm from the Cubs. I think if KW makes a move it will be something none of us see coming like Liriano or Romero.
  5. QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 11:53 AM) Keenyn Walker's BABIP is .445 this year. All other things being equal, now is the time to trade him if you can get a piece for the ML team. That obviously is going to dip, but on the flip side it would suggest when he is making contact he is hitting line drives which is a positive sign to take from his season as well.
  6. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 09:30 AM) He's not going to be a good enough all-around hitter to play left or right. Look at his power numbers, if he makes the big leagues he is going to be good enough for a corner OF spot. The only way he makes the bigs is if he cuts down the K rate so you have to keep that in mind....
  7. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 09:23 AM) Good that he can stay in CF because that's the only position I think his bat will play. It would be interesting to see how many players drafted out of H.S. who have Thompson's K rate after 1,300 minor league plate appearances have made the majors. What are you talking about? He is a power prospect, if he reaches the majors it means he definitely will have the bat to play in all 3 spots. There is just no guarantee he makes that given to the holes in his swings and the fact no prospects are guarantees.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 09:07 AM) 6'4" is very tall and rangy for a CF...but he definitely possesses more athleticism than most guys that size who play baseball because of his basketball bloodline. At any rate, it's our most OF depth since the days of Rowand, Chris Young, Anderson, Reed and Anthony Webster. How dare you not mention Ryan Sweeney
  9. I think the prices for Johnson/Shields are too high for the production they are going to give and because of that I can see KW not adding a SP b4 the deadline unless the Cubs almost give away Dempster similar to our other 2 trades barring the ptbnl is any good in Myers trade.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 05:29 PM) If he's in a mental hospital he'll be with other patients, right? I mean they don't have solitary confinement in a hospital do they? Knowing the pussification of America, I am pretty positive he'll be ruled insane by the latest failure of a jury. It's the old argument, "You'd have to be insane to do what he did." I wonder if he'll even confide in his parents that he is sly as a fox and knows what he did and why he did it. In non 3rd world countries America probably has some of the stiffest penalties for criminals, compare us to our neighbor to the north for example it's so much lighter up there. He is going to be in prison for rest of his life. On a sidenote, the food in the federal prisons are actually not terrible.
  11. QUOTE (farmteam @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 12:23 AM) I've only been once so far since I moved to Minneapolis, so I can't really remember any food specifically. However, they did have a ton of options that looked good. I think I got some chicken tenders that were pretty tasty. The thing I remember the most is that it's just an absolutely beautiful stadium. Gorgeous. How are you getting to the game? Walking, driving, bus, other? Visiting friends in Winona and they driving up there so not worried about all that..
  12. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 10:11 PM) LOL, are you kidding me? That ball almost sailed right over Rios' head because it was hit with so hard. It was an absolute rope. I have no idea what you watched, the ball Cruz hit this inning was a rocket. Youngs was well hit but good god do you exaggerate.
  13. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 10:01 PM) LOL at people saying "Great job Matt!!". You MUST only be watching on Gameday. Paulie made a very nice play on Hamilton to get 1 out, he walks Beltre, and then Michael Young hits an absolutely rocket to RF, right at Rios. Could not have been a luckier appearance, there was nothing even close to "great" about it. Majority of 1b make that play, maybe someone like prince fielder would have botched it and young hit the ball well but really if you consider that a rocket what do you label an actual hard hit line drive.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 07:12 AM) That's not necessarily true. He removed Thornton from the closer's position in May last year for Santos, and Matt was being paid something like $5.5 million. Maybe it wasn't a FA deal or $27 million (like Heath Bell)...but he removed Takatsu as well, in early 2005. Guess Shingo also didn't have such a big contract, compared to Bell or Jenks his last couple of seasons in Chicago. And in 2005 when he removed Shingo, Ozzie was doing a good job as a manager. I don't really count Thornton since he was never an established closer and regularly his success came as a setup man.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 01:35 AM) Like or hate Ozzie, this is a special clip. Manager talking to prima donna closer; i love the part when he tells Bell that nobody wants him on the mound, not the owner, not his wife, nobody except Ozzie. Cool stuff to get to see on TV. I like how he talked to him but having his feet up like that makes him look like such a duesch
  16. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 08:22 AM) BoSox, Yes, Astros, No. We gave up two pretty good prospects with a third, unknown PTBNL. No way anyone can evaluate this trade yet. Bosox was a complete fleece but they needed to get him out of there with Middlebrooks and the drama with Valentine. Myers it depends how he performs but we did not give up two pretty good prospects we gave up career minor leaguers guys I'd rate below Axelrod. I have no idea who the PTBNL is so that could change my thoughts on the trade but right now it stands as getting a bullpen arm for mostly nothing.
  17. QUOTE (YASNY @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 03:39 AM) That right there is the kiss of death for the Sox. The Twins and Royals will be playing minor leaguers to see what they have. The Royals are mostly young guys, the only position player that would be different from the current roster is probably Will Myers hitting for Franceur which is probably an upgrade. Pitching wise, young guys or veterans it can't really get worse than the starters they trot out there now. The Twins just suck so much it doesn't really matter what they do with their roster at the end of the season.
  18. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 05:04 PM) I don't think he owns the majority of either team. In fact, I thought it was the same ownership group which owned both teams, with similar percentages, but I might be wrong. I thought I've read before he is the majority owner of the Bulls, he wanted Steinbrenner to go in with him when he first made the purchase as a partner but when that didn't happen he was the majority owner.
  19. I really wanted Beckham to succeed and I'm happy he at least worked on his defense to do well in that area, but it is annoying having such a black hole in the lineup.
  20. Im going up to Minnesota next weekend to see the Twins/Wsox game and figured I'd ask if anyone has been know the best food there etc. anything would be helpful. All I know is they don't serve churros which makes me a bit sad.
  21. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 09:51 PM) Yes Im ridiculous cause I gave the film a B, or 3 stars. Its not the best film ever, sorry. The ridiculous part is nitpicking about the cities which I didn't even notice, giving it a B grade is perfectly understandable.
  22. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 04:41 PM) Aren't you supposed to feel like something is amiss if you're making a dealing with the Braves and things seem too good to be true? Not after what the Rangers did to them
  23. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 02:23 PM) I haven't enjoyed a Zack Snyder movie yet. He definitely is unique in his directing style, but I enjoyed both 300 and Watchmen. Dawn of the Dead was ok and I haven't seen his other 2 movies, given that Nolan will be heavily involved I think between the two it should be a great movie. I couldn't watch more than 15 minutes of the last Superman movie before having to turn it off.
  24. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 01:48 PM) There's no getting Superman right. He's the most boring character, not only in comics, but in the history of fictional characters. "The Hulk is super strong" "Yeah, but Superman is stronger" "The Flash is super fast" "But Superman is faster" He's the equivalent of that kid we all knew growing up that had to top everyone's stories. There's no good drama with that character. I think the Hulk is actually stronger and Flash is actually faster... just they don't have everything else Superman brings.
  25. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 10:29 PM) Nice post. As far as my religious question to you that you answered. Without bad things happening how could we ever learn to appreciate good? That's true and that's fine, but the people God allows bad things to happen to ... why them? I mean the 6 year old is gone. No life to speak of. Taken away. Her mother wanted to be a doctor, boom, she is now paralyzed even if she lives. Now why did God choose those 2 to die and/or have life ruined? It's very troubling to think it's only so we can appreciate good. Wow. You brought a gun and didn't get searched? Yeah, when I think of the fairly small theatres at these big cinemaplexes, it's scary to think of a gunman in there. I don't know how he didn't kill a lot more people. Way I look at it God doesn't allow or disallow things to happen, they just do. But if you wanted some crazy theory with god all powerful has some master plan maybe that kid grows up to be a serial rapist/killer and that lady ends up being a corrupt doctor.... rather than thinking craziness like that I just assume there isn't some big plan god takes a hands off approach and the reward/punishment comes after life moreso than during it.
