I think some of you also need to realize whether we like it or not this is a cash strapped team. Why on earth would we need Griffey or Wells for big money when Rowand will do a decent job the next few years for a very reasonable price.
-
Ohh and they would also have to pay almost his entire salary and his buy out to even make the deal fair...

QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 04:58 PM) Hey, in case you missed it, Schmidt had a pretty good year last year too. 18-7, 225 innings, 165 hits, 3.2 ERA. Then he started the year with a 2-1 record and 3.41 ERA in April. In May he went on the DL after his second start and hasn't fully returned to form since that stint, though he did post back-to-back 8 inning outings where he surrended no runs. Give me that over "Jose the head case" or "bad shoulder El Duque" every time. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Look at his road record and career numbers outside of the Giants... The fact he's really only had any kind of success with one team should be a huge red flag. Like I said before I wouldn't hesitate to get him if all it took was low level prospects or a couple of busts. But seeing people who want to give up the farm for him really starts to piss me off...

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 04:55 PM) 4 fluke years? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well i'd be worried about a guy that only seemed to be successful with one team his entire career and had been mediocore with every other team he was with...
-
You know what Qwerty I totally agree with ya... but you cannot honestly tell me that would justify ruining team chemistry and taking on that monster contract for a huge DL risk...
-
I think it's hilarious you guys are going the Ozuna Cora comparisions when KW was after him for Gooch's spot... If we'd have signed Cora there would be no Gooch... remember that.... Like I said this winter... Cora = Older Willie Harris...
-
That would be the KW fired immediately and blackballed from baseball trade.... I mean why would JR take on such an awful contract when Rowand is one of the most consistant players on the team on both sides of the field...
-
I think some of you really need to read this.... IT'S NOT 2003. Schmidt is one of the worst pitchers in the NL in a pitchers park this year. HOW ON EARTH CAN YOU EXPECT HIM TO COME TO THE CELL AND DO BETTER. I realize his name is all shiny and stuff BUT HE'S NO LONGER AN ACE. EVEN IF WE GOT HIM (WHICH WOULD BE IN NO WAY WORTH ANYTHING OF QUALITY) HE WOULDN'T EVEN MAKE THE PLAY OFF ROSTER BECAUSE HE'S JUST NOT THAT GOOD! Ok...Rant over....

QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 11:20 AM) I'm beginning to like the idea of Schmidt, Buehrle, Garcia, Garland, Count. Thats just sick. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I realize i'm the only one here who realizes it's not 2003..... But it's always nice to see so many people make the guy who would have an ERA well over 6 or 7 in our park as the Ace... The key to trades is to not make our team worse... Schmidt does nothing for this rotation... Ohhh and did I mention it's not 2003... :headshake ...and I looked, he was never an ACE. He was a guy who had 4 decent fluke years out of a very long career... Sorry but :puke As for Vizquel.... HE WEAKEN'S OUR DEFENSE. THE VERY SLIGHT DIFFERENCE HE'D GIVE US IN OFFENSE AS OUR NUMBER 9 HITTER ISN'T WORTH IT. OZZIE WOULD BE A FOOL TO TAKE GOOCH OUT OF THE ROLE HE THRIVED SO MUCH IN!
-
First off... even single one of those players makes us WORSE... Griffey because his contract is a joke and he'll be hurt in less then a week tops. Schmidt because he's already hurt and lost all his good stuff about a year ago. ...and Vizquel.. Lets just say his slight boost in offense he might give us wouldn't be worth making the range weaker in the IF by a ton and being stuck with him for 2 more years while he gets worse and worse... Sorry but no thanks...

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 08:09 PM) I said at the beginning of the game I love this lineup from an offensive stand point. I just love having Frank, Carl and Jermaine all out there in the same lineup without Pauly. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Even more importantly... without Timo.... -

So far Jose is having a decent start. We need to get him some more insurance runs now... -

Please tell me that this means that Everett will be in RF and not that loser Timo. Better yet leave Dye in RF and play Everett at 1B. -
I figured he would come around eventually. I didn't think he'd stay around the mendoza line all year.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 01:59 PM) In radpid Fire, said guy he most wants to end the game in close one is Konerko, Guy to have behind your back in a fight would be Rowand, Funniest on the team is Konerko and Crede. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You can just tell that Rowand kicks ass on and off the field... He's just that good...
-
I think it would be so cool if he was able to hit 40 HR's this year in limited playing time...
-
QUOTE(Jake @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 11:39 AM) Now let's see some singles and less strikeouts. He's not quite back to old form yet. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> How many HR's is he on pace for. It has to be alot. I'm sure his bat will come around... I wouldn't mind if he kept up this HR pace though...
-
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 05:04 PM) He is not having that great of a year and he plays in a pitcher friendly park. I'd give up a mid level prospect but not much else to get him. Even then, I don't know if I have him on the playoff roster if Duque is healthy. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You know what. I totally agree with you. This is one of the reasons I can't get people slobbing all over "has been" Schmidt. He's worse with no hope of getting better and people are willing to give up top prospects for him because he was an ace 2 years ago. No Moyer doesn't get me excited either. There is no way in heck that Schmidt is worth more then Moyer considering Moyer is the better pitcher and healthier at this point. Honestly I wouldn't package more then Joe Borchard and a couple of low level prospects for either one of them but thats just me.

All I know is we should all be bowing down to Frank... this guy is the offensive shot in the arm we were hoping for!

Would you trade for Kerry Wood?
AngelasDaddy0427 replied to Al Lopez Ghost (old)'s topic in Pale Hose Talk
The only way I would trade for Wood is if three things happen. 1) Cubs pay half his remaining contract. 2) Cubs throw in one of the better pitching prospects. 3) Cubs don't ask for any MLB pitchers from our team in return. -
The speedster. He's more likely to try and hit for contact while the power hitter will do nothing but swing for the fences and choke (which all sox fans should be familiar with by now.)

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 08:14 AM) I'm pretty sure Contreras got molested the last time he faced the Rays, so there's something to look forward to. If Contreras sucks it up again today, KW will almost certainly make a move, IMO. Let's just say I expect very little from the Count. Anyone know how many innings Jenks can go? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'd hardly call 4 ER's over 5 IP being "molested" especially out of our #4 starter.
