  1. Because they are the other team that is in a very similar position to us and we can compare how each teams moves match up and so far the Padres have always been a number of steps a head of the White Sox. It's frustrating watching our office vs theirs.
  2. Castillo would be incredible. Best SP on the market hands down! I also agree with bmags that I'd rather Musgrove over Gray.
  3. So the Padres get Two aces in Darvish and Snell and we'd get an old guy with 1 year in Lynn and an injured/mediocre Gray. Cool. Woodruff would be A+ tho.
  4. Pirates are giving up their players for salary relief. It won't take much of anything.
  5. The return on Bell was weak. They won't be getting much for Musgrove methinks.
  6. Musgrove isn't going to cost much of anything. Easy buy. Then buy another SP for the hell of it. Get Musgrove and Kluber. No reason not to.
  7. Colome would be OK on a very low contract. Anything involving more $$$ is a failure. I wouldn't be too thrilled with signing Colome.
  8. Again, nothing substantial from your post. You are on my ignored user list for bringing nothing to the table to discuss except attacks on me.
  9. Again, as others have stated their fears with "injury prone SPs" and this with "age". Which SPs were available that were better fits? Luis Castillo is the only one that comes to mind, and he would cost maybe 2x what these guys cost. Trevor Bauer fits the bill, but no one knows what he is doing and his bidding might continue for a few more months. You can't wait on him.
  10. Not sure how an admin (former mod) can be so illogical. Numerous times in the past you've brought this up, it's a great way to avoid any of the logical arguments and completely turn the conversation into a spamfest/argument. Really immature.
  11. ok, you and @ron883, what other pitchers were available that would have been smarter, or what moves? Darvish and Snell are two of the top 10 most skilled pitchers in the game for this upcoming year. Also, IMO it's kinda ridiculous talking about injury proneness with SPs. Literally every SP is injury prone. Especially this year. What their doing is building an insane rotation of depth that is going to be needed for this upcoming year. Theirs going to be more SP injuries in 2021 then there ever has been. The Padres made the best possible moves of the offseason in the 24 hour span. The only better move would have been Bauer, but I feel like his game is not possible to be won currently.
  12. The Padres seem to manage their team how any sane and logical person would -- making all the right possible moves to try to win a WS with what they have. These are the exact moves I'd make in MLB The Show if I was in their position. The White Sox (and MANY other organizations) make moves based on weird financial constructs to save the ownership group the most amount of money while trying to place a competitive team on the field.
  13. I have my doubts with both Lynn and Keuchel. Darvish, on the other hand, has overpowering stuff. I would have felt better giving up Dunning for 3 guaranteed years of an overpowering arsenal of Darvish rather than Lynn. I see Lynn being closer to a 4.0 ERA with the Sox than a 3.0. Keuchel will regress, that's guaranteed, from last year. Kopech will pitch very little, and Cease so far has sucked. We are in trouble with pitching. I agree Bauer would have been the perfect move, but the W'Sox killed that with LaRussa signing and the fact that they don't sign big contracts anyway. I'm just jealous that the Padres had enough prospect capital and $$$$ to trade for the 2 biggest SP acquisitions and sign the korean sensation in the same 24 hour span while the W'Sox look around the league to find the best contracts to spend the least amount of money while trying to compete. Their shooting themselves in the foot. This isn't covid-white sox strategy, this has been their strategy all along. Teams like the Rays and A's have serious payroll constraints and compete with intelligent baseball analytic moves. The Chicago White Sox aren't that desperate with money, but my god, how much $$$$ we've wasted over the years on the 'middle route' with guys like Edwin, Nomar, Eaton, etc. etc. They need to learn to pay up once in a while to get their $$$'s worth.
  14. 100% looking at the cost of Darvish to the Padres we could have beaten that rather easily. I would have much preferred Darvish and his skillset + years over Lynn, but you know that JR and company wanted the cheaper contract. Good teams bring in talent, JR/co should be on the phone with the Cubs trying to grab Kris Bryant asap for nothing. Put him in the OF.
  15. Snell is a bonafide ace. Tier 1 starter. Star. He'd be a national star on any other team. Darvish is a stud, long track record of ace success. Keuchel had a couple of great years.
  16. Too long. My generation is right after Belle. What is that, the last 30 years?
  17. I'm saying the White sox Never acquire a star. Jose Abreu is a questionable star (he certainly was a star last season), but we signed him via the international market (? I think). At that point he was not a star and while I'm sure he was heralded as potentially good, that wasn't the white sox acquiring a star. Grandal is only a marginal 'star' because of the position he plays. For once, I want them to put their money on the table and get someone. Get me Bauer. Get Lindor next season. Use some prospect depth to take advantage of these teams crying poor and trade for their stars (padres just owned this route).
  18. When did the Sox win the offseason? Because I don't remember ever feeling like they won it. I remember last year I felt decent with the signing of Grandal, but hated Keuchel/Mazaraa (Keuchel so far has been good, but I feel he regresses HARD this year). In 2018 it was the worst of all time offseasons. As a fan, I just ONCE want to get a star. This organization has shown time and time again that they play the middle ground everywhere. They'll sign the Adam Eaton who we all know will probably suck and be a complete waste. They miss out on Wheeler and sign the meh Keuchel. This offseason, they traded for Lynn who has shown signs of decline recently and honestly, I don't have a whole lot of confidence in him, instead of trading for a big dog like Snell or Darvish or Castillo. They won't sign Springer or Bauer (although I wouldn't really want Springer). They don't sign in bulk (meaning they wont take 2 or 3 pretty good OFers like a Schwarber/Pederson/Dahl types). I just hate how they operate. The only thing good they do is acquire cubans.
  19. This is insane. That's one hell of a get for a team like the Padres who are already star studded
  20. Wow. When I read about the Snell trade to the Padres last night I thought to myself how the Padres always seem to 'beat' us or one-up us when it comes to acquistions, whether its the trade deadline (Clevinger) or Offseason moves (Machado obviously) and now this year (Snell). It made me sad, but the haul they gave up for Snell made it even. Now they get Darvish? OH, and also the sensation Kim for 2b? This is how you run a team. Padres should be applauded 100%. It just shows how shit our front office has been :(. We can NEVER get a star. Just like the Bulls.
  21. A good looking Kluber would be an awesome get, i was very high on him going into last year
  22. Why would we ever want Ed Howard out of all the possible players we could net for Kopech/Vaughn???
