QUOTE(knightni @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 02:10 AM) So, basically... Baltimore, Texas, Anaheim or Boston... Counting out the yankees at this point in time is like saying the twins are out of it in my opinion. Yankees are not as bad as they are playing and will string together good sized win streak and everyone will shut up about how bad they are playing for a day or two.

QUOTE(Winnin Ugly @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 12:32 AM) Make it a 8 1/2 game lead over Texas.. God I wish i had more time in the day to post over a thousand times. must be nice to sit at a computer all day while some of us are working 14 hrs a day If you are working 14 hours a day you have a really s***ty job and are getting paid 2.37$ an hour. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 01:43 AM) I was thinking about that trade a few days ago. Realistically, that trade might have gotten us a division title or two bye now. Of course, today, that non-trade looks good for the Sox. Why would a mediocore erstad have put us over the top and into the playoffs? This guy is extremely overpaid (7.5 this year and 8.5 the next). He also has a no trade clause included into his contract and i will never understand why. His career ops+ is 98 and his career high is 137. The last four years it looks like this. 2001- 78. 2002- 88. 2003- 75. 2004- 95. :puke

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 12:31 AM) 6-1 record on interleague road games this year. Can't b**** about that. Here's hoping we make it 7-1 tonight. But that won't be good enough for some people because one of those were against the cubs. :headshake

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 10, 2005 -> 06:36 PM) Even if he was a 1-year wonder, if there was a moderate drop-off in his numbers this year, he'd still be worth that contract. He's getting like 12 or 13 million a year. If my 3b plays solid defense, hits 30-35 home runs, and hits .300, he's probably worth that money. Each of those numbers would be a substantial drop-off from his performance last year. And I don't put any of them out of his reach yet. If he'd put up 45+ home runs, .330 average 2 or 3 years in a row, I wouldn't have been surprised if he earned a bigger contract than Beltran. He was undervalued a bit because he'd only done it for 1 year. He never had numbers close to last year in a big time pitchers park. He finally puts up huge numbers last year. Why is that? Oh ya, his contract year. Now he will go back to his underachieving self at another insane pitchers park. He won't sniff .300 this year. It is sad how often players do so well in their contract year and go back to blowing like they previously had.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 10, 2005 -> 07:07 PM) Kids in Europe aren't walking around very much with baseball bats, but what about Kids in Japan and Latin America? Seems to me like a heck of a lot of them have baseball bats. Korea too. China...well Yao Ming might have helped them corner that market, and that's a pretty damn big market. 1 thing though - it seems to me that lots of players in latin America (Cuba, Mexico, Venezuela, etc.) seem to find ways to get their hands on baseball equipment. I think that Europe is probably a fair amount more developed than Latin America, so somehow I doubt that Europeans being unable to buy the equipment to compete in baseball is a workable reason. Usually they have people who set up leagues and such so that they can scope out the talent for baseball. Not many kids have there own things over their... Most of the equipment they use are just old pieces of s*** hand me downs. Soccer far and away blows out any sport that is a given. I mean they pack stadiums with 100,000+ without any problem. Football is big more so here than any where else... because in alot of people's mind out of the usa soccer>football. I am gonna stick to baseball and basketball being a close number two behind soccer. -

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jun 10, 2005 -> 05:01 PM) the country? doesn't the universal order go 1)NFL 2)MLB 3)NBA 4)NHL The nba has more followers than any other sport besides soccer. In every other continent kids either have a basketball or a soccer ball. Kids in europe are not walking around with baseball bats and hockey sticks the majority of the time. One reason being is they cannot afford the equipment for either baseball/ hockey. Football is not nearly and big as soccer is world wide either. The nhl's ratings are/were less than a fifth of nascar's and barely more than a fourth of the nba's, cable or over-the-air broadcast. -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 10, 2005 -> 04:36 PM) With the Bulls finally turning it around after 6 seasons of utter futility, you better believe it I'll be damned furious if they miss playing time. I just can't believe that people would be so stupid as to risk 2 work stoppages in 6 years. I think these guys will figure something out. Remember like 2 years ago in MLB, when it seemed almost certian that there would be a 2nd strike, and at the last minute they worked something out? I bet something like that will happen in the NBA. Last second they'll work something out. The only problem with my theory is that if there is a lockout, they don't immediately start losing games, so that makes the lockout a little more likely, and once its started it gets even harder to stop. Bet you money they have a lock out. At this point it is inevitable because the players are crying. Both sides have cut off negotiation and they have no intention of getting anything worked out now ( more so the players union). -

QUOTE(56789 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 11:48 PM) I just found a perfect example to the comment on how admins and moderaters are treated better than other posters. In the NHL Salary Cap thread people would say something bad about the NHL and everyone would say "If you dont like the NHL stay out of an NHL thread" well then aboz comes in and says "the nhl :sleep :sleep :sleep " and no one says a word to him.
