Pac 10 commish flew in personally today to hand out invites to OU, Okie State, and will be in Texas soon. A&M is apparently close to accepting an offer to the SEC. That would be the perfect situation for me. It seems Kansas would be the favorite to take A&M's place. -

The time zone difference would be negligible in most cases. The reason Texas, A&M, Tech, Okie State, and OU are sticking together is not only for the rivalries but also for the traveling distance. Texas would play OU, Okie State, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Colorado, Arizona, and Arizona State every year. I'm just not sure whether each "East" team would play one, or three "West" teams each season. Playing 7 against your division, and 3 against the other division would leave only two OOC games. The East teams would only have to play in the PST timezone once or twice a year because of home and away switching each season. The East would play in Mountain time zone once a year in Arizona and once in Pacific time zone. Not bad at all. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 10:16 PM) Now reports from ESPN that Texas wants to keep the Big 12 together..... Well of course they would, that has always been their ideal situation. They currently own the Big 12 money wise, and it would only get worse with Nebraska out. I think it will be a done deal with the other 5 schools joining Colorado tomorrow. -

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 04:56 PM) Its not like your talking about Texas Tech or something. How did Texas Tech become the whipping boy in all this Big 12 conference talk? Tech was founded in 1923 and every single school in the Big 12 and Big 10 have had at least a 33 year head start in the Big 12 and 53 years in the Big 10. Hell, Indiana and Michigan have been around over 100 years longer. Kansas State and Okie State are the same academically as Tech currently, yet are much older institutions and don't seem to receive any academic flack. It's pretty humorous. Texas Tech never had ANY interest or hope of joining the Big 10, yet article after article insisted Tech would have to be included with Texas and A&M. Oh well, Texas Tech is on the verge of becoming a Tier 1 research university within the next year. Now the question seems to be whether A&M will join the SEC or Pac 10. -

Texas, Texas Tech, Okie State, OU all seem set on the Pac 10. But A&M is close to joining the SEC. That would be hilarious and fantastic. -

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 04:36 PM) Not that most people care about baseball, but Nebraska just finished last in the Big 12 and didn't qualify for the conference tournament for the 2nd straight year. They're a historically good program, but not in recent years. My favorite part of this saga is the non-stop rumors. They get more absurd by the day. Now the Big 12 is apparently meeting Saturday in Dallas to see if the conference can be saved by adding two new teams. This of course coming from cash-cow Texas. I'm so tired of all this s***. -

Looks like the Big 12 is officially toast. Nebraska to Big 10 and the 6 schools to the Pac 10 are done deals apparently. -
As an FYI, Sale was ranked as the #4 player in the draft by BaseballAmerica. That's even higher than Beckham was ranked coming out.

Will be interesting to see if he gains any mph when the Sox put on 20-25 pounds on his frame.
-
Hell of a pick. I can't complain about our last 4 1st round picks.
-
I'm ecstatic that Loux is gone already. Hopefully the Sox surprise me.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 08:59 PM) Plus we haven't made a "safe" pick for four years now. Really if you look at it, we have taken safe players (meaning low ceiling college pitchers) only a few times. Thinking back to guys like Fields and Borchard that were projects, Gio and Honel were HS pitchers, throw in Brian Anderson. I know there is Broadway and McCollough, but that is about it. I'm not even including position players in my talk of "safe" picks. I'm specifically speaking of pitchers. McCulloch and Broadway were the "safest" pitchers in the 1st round. Poreda was a nice change in 2007 even though I was dying for Porcello. I think we have had our best three 1st round picks of the decade in the last 3 years. So I do have some hope for the new scouts.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 07:57 PM) Ray Allen is the best long-range shooter in NBA history. I think you can say he's the best shooter in NBA history.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 07:41 PM) Not a fan at all. No plus pitches, as his curve is inconsistent and fastball sits in the 90 mph range. He's also had a lot of injuries in the past. If we reach for Loux, it's no better than the Kyle McCulloch pick. This system is in dire need of talent and potential over safe signs.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 03:43 PM) Does the ultimatum mean anything? Could the schools just ignore it? If Nebraska and Mizzou ignored it, the 6 schools would leave for the Pac 10. Looks like both deals are pretty close to happening now. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 09:32 PM) John Wooden has died at age 99. Great man, but I'm not sure what to think of his coaching ability. He had the best talent money could buy from Sam Gilbert. Still, he was a great role model and person. Very sad to see one of the good one's go. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 12:43 AM) Kansas is but Kansas State is not, and the two are also tied at the hip through the state legislature. I think that's the main reason Kansas didn't get an invite. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 12:43 AM) AAU Schools include: Nebraska Mizzou Iowa State Syracuse Pitt Rutgers I wouldn't be surprised if those six schools got an invite to the Big 10 to make another 16 team superconference. -

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 08:20 PM) Yeah, not gonna happen. My guess is they invited the whole big 12 with hopes of at least Colorado accepting. Texas and Texas A&M are tied at the hip, and Texas loves it in the Big 12 so rule them out. I don't see either Okie schools leaving. So that leaves Texas Tech, and who knows, maybe. Its a prefect time if they wanted to switch conferences and it would help them to get out of the shadow of Texas and Texas A&M. The Big 12 was thrown together as a league, and was never going to survive. The league will be breaking up soon regardless of whether this scenario happens or not, and this is the best option for the Texas schools. Texas and Texas Tech are the ones actually tied at the hip because of state politics. A&M has been flirting with the SEC, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them delusional enough to accept a bid if offered. I know someone will be happy to add Kansas because of their basketball program, but I don't know if they are an AAU member to be in the Big 10 or where else they would be regulated to. Mountain West maybe? Not sure. -

QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 04:52 PM) Utah, BYU, Colorado, New Mexico, Hawaii, or Boise State make more sense geographically. It's all about the TV viewership. Bringing the Texas markets, Oklahoma City, and Denver markets brings 20M+ extra potential viewers. It would likely be an East/West set. East: Texas Texas A&M Texas Tech Oklahoma Oklahoma State Colorado Arizona Arizona State West: Oregon Oregon State Washington Washington State California USC UCLA Stanford -

Galarraga perfect game broken up by umpire

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 07:45 AM) Let's not over react about firing the umpire. the dude made a mistake. He's HUMAN. I dare anyone here to say with 100% honesty that they have never made a mistake on the job. Unfortunately, sometimes those mistakes have larger consequences. My understanding is that Joyce is a farily well respected ump... although i havent consulted "Hawks Book of Bad Umpires". That's the tough part. There's a fine line between human error and flat out not doing your job. If you have that kind of error in a "real life" job, you would probably be fired. Saying he should be fired was an over-reaction as he has proven to be a good umpire for 20+ years, but he at least needs to be suspended for a few weeks. -
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 09:03 PM) good throw from 30 feet would've got him, instead it was bounced.... Thanks, didn't see the bounce.
