QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 02:13 PM) Yeah, so not interested in four or five years of sucking, so that maybe, just maybe, we can compete then. A year or two of being bad, a year of being what they are now, then a couple years of being World Series contenders. I'm talking about two years of being the best team in the A.L. If you think two years isn't enough, you don't understand the competitive advantage the Yankees have over the rest of the league.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 02:00 PM) So tell me how many times in the history of baseball a team has gone from 60 wins to a world series contender in one or two years? I'd venture to bet it is only a couple tops. I never said they would go from 60 wins to World Series contender in one or two years.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 07:46 AM) I could care sell about our BA rankings. I don't want to go through a 60 win season, just so we can be at the top of a prospect list. I also don't want to go through having a million fans in the stands again, and having no expectations of being good for years. Will you go through a 60 win season or two in order to become a legitimate world series contender for a year or two?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 06:41 PM) Mediocrity>complete s*** How is it better?
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 12:11 PM) Why are you so obsessed with a total meltdown? Because the mediocrity treadmill isn't fun.

QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 11:36 AM) That's probably around 110 mil. If the payroll is $110M Frasor is a huge waste.

If the offers for Danks and Floyd are that good they have to make the deals regardless of how it impacts the team in the short run.
-
QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 12:27 PM) why when you still potentially have Danks Floyd Sale Peavy Humber/Stewart/Axlerod/ maybe someone they get in a CQ trade? beat me to it Flavum Because 1/2 that rotation has a decent chance at being bad.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 12:26 PM) Uh...no. You have Peavy, Danks, and Floyd in their contract years, Humber and Sale, and a pretty decent bullpen. Along with unmovable contracts in Dunn and Rios. They try to win next year by having everything go right. If it doesn't, they have the trade deadline and next offseason to continue the dismantling. Will it suck to have Buehrle leave? Yeah, kind of. But by no means do I want them to give him 3 guaranteed years at this point. Use the money earmarked for Buehrle to upgrade other areas or save it?
-
If Buehrle goes do they tear it all down? I think they do and every player should be available.

DKnobler DKnobler Rays seem dead-set against trading Shields. They might listen on Hellickson before they listen on Shields (very unlikely they trade either) 6 minutes ago I can't believe that Shield's won't be on the market . . .

I think C.J. Wilson goes to the NL and the Rangers sign Yu Darvish to replace him. The Red Sox will be desperate to get a starter, I think they'll go after Gio Gonzalez.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 06:04 PM) Ask Bill James and Joe Pos. they seem to believe he's not a top 10 SS. I think that is a fair assessment. -

Reinsdorf’s U.S. Cellular Field Lease In Jeopardy?
Marty34 replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 04:33 PM) public opinion is quite the opposite. it's now" well, teh sox got an awesome deal, why not the cubs? they actually draw!" It's better for the Sox this is out now (same day as Theo's press conference) then when the Cubs are going through their negotiations. The Cubs are going to have a difficult time getting the money they want. The city/state will point to renegotiating the Sox lease as cover for playing hardball with the Cubs. -
Reinsdorf’s U.S. Cellular Field Lease In Jeopardy?
Marty34 replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 02:50 PM) I dont think Emil Jones knows how good of a negotiator Jerry is. Jerry is Bud's enforcer. Who do you think got the Nationals a sweetheat deal with Washington DC on Nationals Field? A deal that some say is BETTER than the white sox deal with ISFA? That stadium deal helped the nationals sell for $450 million, netting the other 29 clubs a sizable proft(team was purchased for 150-200 million from Loria in 2002) The bic scary part in this is if illinois wants to force a lease renegotiation, Jerry might say " f*** you, i'm out of here." and void the lease. I think the Sox and the state leaked the sweetheart deal to make the Cubs negotiations more difficult. Chairman Reinsdorf will make some minor concessions and it will be done. The last thing they wanted was Ricketts to bring up the Sox lease when he can't get his deal done. -

So . . . Terry Boers in reply to hitting coach being the second toughest job in baseball said something like all they do is get drunk on planes and fight announcers. -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 02:07 PM) He probably won't. That wasn't my point. '09 Justin Verlander is still pretty much a top 3 pitcher in the AL. He went through a very heavy workload, let's see how he bounces back in 2012.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 01:24 PM) I know. But I can't help but perpetually b**** about it. What pisses me off is that Team Ozzie is going to get exactly what they wanted. Ozzie was a problem. Not the problem. And we're going to see this starting next year. I think we'll see it in 2013. Maybe they feel they have to strike while the iron is hot. The Yankees and Red Sox have pitching issues that they aren't going to be able to fix this offseason. If you want to win the AL, you have to do it when the two powers are down.

TLR wasn't going to manage next year. Given their relationship chairman Reinsdorf no doubt knew that. Definitely see a front office spot for him with Sox. TLR kept saying it's time for something else in press conference.
