QUOTE (flavum @ May 16, 2014 -> 07:21 PM) I'd like a BJ from Christy Turlington. It would cost less than Shields. Maybe.

QUOTE (SoxnGiants @ May 16, 2014 -> 09:55 AM) Hitting a home run with a pitcher @#3 changes the dynamics of the rotation greatly as well. Sale-#3-Quintana-Danks-Johnson is promising if #3 is a plus #2 starter. Quick fixing the rotation, I'd like to see Shields, Rodon, and Gausman added for 2015.

They are going to have to buy the pitching for this core of position players.

Beckham feels no added pressure from Semien/Johnson

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 15, 2014 -> 02:50 PM) Dick Allen -- Gordon is about to get much more expensive and given the Sox have compete log jam of guys that project as good or better than Gordon what exactly are you looking for the Sox to do? He's playing everyday, isn't that good enough? He's either going to continue to play either day, be pretty good, get traded for a legit prospect or -- he's going to continue to play everyday, suck, and get traded for a bag of balls to a desperate team like the Yankees. Hit future in Chicago is not long, no matter what he does. It's partly his fault and partly just the reality of finally having some near MLB ready infield prospects. Now, by all means, if Gordon turns into Chase Utley KEEP HIM. I''m talking like in late July he's hitting 300/350/500 then maybe you reconsider his future as a Sox. It's still too soon to say Beckham won't be a part of this team going forward. He's hitting the ball consistently harder than he has in a longtime, line drives, not the pop-ups we've been accustomed to seeing from him. Severson may have fixed him. -
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 15, 2014 -> 01:56 PM) The reason Keith Law is important is that he's a reporter that actually has connections. I'm less interested in his opinions as I am in his inside information. That's why I love his mocks so much -- he saves his favorites for his top draft prospects list, but when it comes to mocks, it's all about what he's hearing from his sources as to what teams will do. All reporters have connections. Law isn't any different than any of these draft experts in that he has no skin in the game.

All Beckham hits these day are line drives. This is as good as he has looked in a long time. -

Thankfully, the Sox have a lot of days off left. This staff is going to need them. -
Better-than-expected sales from Bossard's turf clinic is the only logical answer for this.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 14, 2014 -> 10:48 AM) Marty, I don't know how many times someone has to say this, there is no such thing as drafting based upon need in the early rounds of the baseball draft, that is just idiocracy. You draft whomever is the best possible prospect and who you think is the right fit. It is such a crapshoot that limiting yourself to a 2nd basemen because your system is thin is just asinine. Maybe if two guys rate the same you will do that but that is pretty rare. Then might I suggest never drafting a high school pitcher because they will likely get hurt.
-
QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 14, 2014 -> 12:23 AM) If it is not a pitcher somebody should be updating the old resume. If they draft a high school player there's little difference in terms of need between a hitter and pitcher seeing how you're looking at 2017-8.

QUOTE (farmteam @ May 13, 2014 -> 05:19 PM) Man I hope Aiken falls to 3. And I'm in the minority on this (I think), but I wouldn't have a problem with taking a chance on Alex Jackson if Aiken is gone. This is pretty close to the way I feel at the moment, but it will probably change tomorrow. I can't get over that I don't like Rodon's mechanics, not too mention the wear and tear, and Boras.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 12, 2014 -> 12:12 PM) It all comes down to winning. The Hawks are winning. When they were not, they occassionally had tickets for FREE on ticketmaster.com, and still didn't have half the seats full. The White Sox need to win consistently. It has to be where making the playoffs is the expectation year after year, not hoping to get in once every 5 or 6 season. Then, attendance will be fine. Yep and it's a sad commentary that they have 1 playoff victory since 2005 and have never made the postseason back-to-back years considering the division they are in.

QUOTE (flavum @ May 11, 2014 -> 04:30 PM) For most people, going to a Sox game is something you look at the schedule weeks and months in advance, and choose a game. That usually happens for games in June, July, and August. Not a lot of families are going to wake up on Mother's Day, and go to a Sox game. Maybe when the Sox get better, they'll draw. Until then, 1.6-1.7 mil this year. Yeah, don't get the point of this thread. Sox attendance has been predictable, if this year is a surprise you didn't check their history.

We're lamenting the length of games, but it may make baseball the perfect sport to watch on a mobile device. Say you want to catch 15 minutes of a game or an AB here or there when you don't have the time to watch an entire game. I'd imagine teams will make a killing on these rights in the near future.
-
Google, Netflix, or Apple bidding on broadcast rights for teams, specifically the Cubs in 2019, would be an interesting twist. Kenny says the Cubs having own channel is possible too. http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/jon-greenb...-business-plans

Looking at some of the raw numbers on pace for 2,434 total bases, last year had 2,104. Doubles on pace for 315, last year had 237. Runs on pace for 845, last year 598. Seversen has been worth his weight in gold.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 8, 2014 -> 09:29 AM) They can say 'tickets start at $7' all they want, but if I am going to the game, I want to SEE and enjoy the game, not get nosebleeds and a workout hiking up to my seat. I haven't had to buy tickets for a few years, so imagine my shock when we went to buy tickets for this Saturday against the Diamondbacks. They want $72 for lower bowl between 3rd and outfield wall. Go a little closer to the wall and it drops to $52. Bleachers $35. Still going, but to my cheap-ass it is pretty steep. What do you want for $7? There are plenty of $7 seats in the first few rows by the way. Buy early and you won't have to hike.

Thanks for chronicling the game attendances in this thread it's difficult information to find. There was a post on this board earlier that summed up Sox attendance. It's going to be 1.6-1.7M this year, maybe a little more if they stay in the race and the weather is good.

If the Sox keep hitting like this some smart team is going to offer Severson a managing job this winter.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 9, 2014 -> 03:24 PM) You know, the organizations that have used the "time" rebuild really didnt come out better for it. It took the Pirates what, 25 years? The Royals still havent been in the playoffs. The Astros dont look any better for it. And you are kidding yourself if you think Theo has a lot of time. He has HAD a lot of time, and the on field results have gotten bad, and the natives are getting restless. Sveum was offered as a sacrifice, but eventually the fans and owner will turn their attention to the planners if things dont start to change. I did not say organizations, I said GM's. If a GM, team president is given the type of job security Theo has there's a good chance they will succeed. I think you're off-base if you think the clock has even started ticking on Theo. If these prospects all fail three years in to their major league careers you might start hearing whispers about letting him go, otherwise no chance.
-
On Theo: There are a lot of GM's who can succeed if given either time or resources. In Boston, he had the resources (PED's included). With the Cubs he has time and a LOT of it.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 7, 2014 -> 12:56 PM) What Bernstein needs is to be rid of Boers, because he needs a strong voice on the other side that will keep him in check. Agreed, but his ego has reached Mike North proportions where he will never allow it. Too bad because Bernstein was very good when he first started.
-
The Score should drop the pretense and talk Bears 24/7.
-
I don't think Bernstein watches many games and uses his knowledge of SABRmetrics to make up for it. It makes for dumb opinions.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 6, 2014 -> 09:20 AM) I went to Wrigley last night. They said 33k but closer to 25k IMO if that, where actually there. It was so cold. One thing about USCF, those boards in the OF block some wind. Nothing to block the wind at Wrigley. My hands were frozen. I didn't anticipate needing gloves in May. One thing they don't do at Wrigley that they do at USCF now is the pat down and wand check of your being. I wonder why the Cubs don't have to do it. I heard it's because they don't have the room for the massive lines that creates. Supposedly, they will have the walk thru detectors at each gate at Wrigley next year (the cell too.)
