That still leaves a hole in LF. Looks like Pierre and Roberts are going to sign elsewhere. Soooo, we are still one LF and one leadoff hitter short. Wells would be great, but unless there's a leadoff hitter in there, forget it.

QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 15, 2006 -> 05:57 PM) There is nothing controlled about sleeping with a teenager. Out of control of their common sense is more accurate. No, I mean she can control the student. Make him do what she wants him to do.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Nov 15, 2006 -> 02:54 PM) How didn't the teller catch it? ATM deposit.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Nov 15, 2006 -> 12:30 PM) http://www.kgw.com/news-local/stories/kgw_..._.1ea1e06a.html For you ladies, what might be the appeal of having sex with a student? Perhaps the same rush somebody gets from breaking the law? I just don't get it really, it's not like most of these women would have trouble finding a man to sleep with, and even if they were into kids, how come they never called my name to stay after class to help clean up? One word...control.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2006 -> 02:43 PM) Perjury is the big thing they could get him with. Isn't the statute of limitations expired? It's been 11 years.

I will now tell everyone a story...about how dumb I am. I had just started this job and the first paycheck, no matter if you signed up for direct deposit or not, is always a check. Because you aren't in the system yet. So, I deposit it into the bank. Fast forward to next pay day. Get another check. Go to the bank. Deposit check. One week later, get same check mailed back from the bank. Yeaaahhh, it wasn't a check...it was a direct deposit receipt. And it even had "Direct Deposit" stamped on it. MAN, did I feel stupid.

I know about double jeopardy, but is there ANY chance that if there's some sort of slip of the tongue, if he could be re-tried? If not, he might as well just come out and say it, move to some foreign country, like Maine, and drop out of existence.

Take another guard off the table. Farrakhan going to Virginia.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 02:34 PM) I said it at the outset, some of it is 'spun', but overall... the general going on in the country is what most would consider as very good. Iraq was packaged by the Democrats as the end all be all of this election, and that may be the right thing, or it may not be. Everything else was rejected as 'nonimportant' and that's my point with posting this. And if the situation were reversed, a similar email would have gone out. I may have to pull an Alec Baldwin if we elect another Bush...move to Canada. Or at least threaten to move to Canada.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 11:55 AM) They also elected Jesse Ventura knowing he was a WWF wrestler...so their judgment is still in question Good point!

Biden is running AGAIN? Man, that guy has some stones to keep going for it. Good luck to you Joseph.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 01:21 PM) I know a lot of larger companies are switching to PTO which combines your sick days with vacation days and you can kind of take them whenever. I'm pretty stoked cause I get 23 PTO, 8 holidays, plus 4 office holidays (which are chosen by the top management our individual company locations). And we are encouraged to use every single one of those days throughout the year. It's about time this started. Our company starts with 12 days vacation time and it moves up to 17 days after 6 YEARS!!! And that's it. No more...ever. That's just ridiculous. Europe STARTS at 4 weeks.

QUOTE(Chet Lemon @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 11:25 AM) trade iguchi & dye to the yankees for cano and melky cabrera, then use the money saved from the trade to acquire a proven bullpen cornerstone and ink crede to a long term deal. Um, why would the Yankees need Iguchi? They have Robinson Cano. And their outfield is set as Balta said. Cabrera will be the 4th outfielder.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 01:19 PM) George Ofman's doesn't bring anything to the table. The winter meetings usually have more action, but I read the Phillies are going to trade Burrell for a package including their old Prospect Johnny Estrada. Doesn't Burrell have a full no-trade clause? And I do NOT want Vizquel back, Rowand maybe, but only because of past history. We can do better than those two. Much better.

QUOTE(R.Sweeney @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 01:22 PM) Stupid trades happen every year .Look at Balt., they gave up a young promising reliever for Wright whos in the last year of his contract and you never know what you get with that guy . Another one last year was Borchard to Seattle for Thorton then Seattle released him got picked up by Florida . Then theres the Cubs who do that every year . Point is you never know .We'll probabley hang on to Pods for trade bait for as long as we can in hopes that teams get desperate for lead-off help and over pay . Wright was a good pickup for the O's for one reason and one reason only, Leo Mazzone. Wright had his best years under Leo, and he probably will again. Pods could at least get a major-league ready player or two.

Ellison was elected by his constituency. They know he's a Muslim and they still elected him. End of story. As has been said before, this country is based on freedom. If he wants to swear using a Quran, let him do that. And Lieberman swore on a Bible, the original...cuz we all know the sequel is never as good as the original.

Mental health days are just as important as physical health sick days. I think that employers have gotten to the point where it's mostly about the money and the time given by employees and have stopped thinking about how being physically sick or just fed up can affect other employees. If I'm sick, but only have a set amount of sick days, or just feel the midwestern guilt about not showing up, I could get other people sick and THEY'LL be out of work. So, instead of my 8 hours of sick time, you just lost my 8 + the amount of people I got sick. Similarly, if I'm overworked or something has happened in my personal life or something mentally or emotionally wrong in or out of work, that affects my work. So, you are paying someone to sit at their desk or do a job and not being productive. AND, depending on how much interaction that person has with co-workers, that employee could be holding up other people or just infecting the morale, and you get a trickle down theory. I'm certainly not in favor of people who misuse their sick days, and that's why there is a cap on them, but I believe, if it's needed, than it's needed. Employers, though, have the right to terminate someone if they feel they are abusing them, though. That's the way the world works. Unfortunately, we have gotten to the point where it's everyone for themselves. Employers should only expect one thing, for an employee to come in and do their job to the best of their ability and employees should only expect a paycheck and possibly benefits...and that's it.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 10, 2006 -> 04:47 PM) Wrong. It's the ESPN-Big Ten contract. I was going to say the same thing as Jimbo's, and we never agree. Keep drinking the Juice Kool-Aid. I understand...contract. Why weren't the Illini on more last year then?

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 9, 2006 -> 06:37 PM) so i'm guessing Kinky was your man? Yes, but not because we are both Jewish. But because a vote for Kinky was a vote against politicians. I hope you didn't mean anything by that other than a legitimate question, but I don't vote for religion, I vote for stance on things that are important to me.

Sorry people, but after a couple of tight games with Juice at the helm, ESPN picked up the games. Yes, I understand that Wisco and PSU are bowl-bound teams, but are you telling me that those were the best Big Ten games those weekends, not being picked up by ABC, which, by the way, are more regional than ESPN is. I don't know how many times I tried to turn on a Big Ten game on ABC here in Texas and I get Kansas State-Texas A&M or something like that. ESPN KNOWS that Juice is special, and they KNOW what kind of a recruiter Zook is, and they KNOW that he isn't a great coach, but a talent like Juice, mostly his feet, will overcome some of those problems. ESPN wants to see talent and the more talent that goes to Illinois, the more they will be on. And I think that would go for ANY Big Ten team. (see: Northwestern in '95 and '96 and Purdue with Brees).

Jermaine Dye and Joe Crede win Silver Sluggers

Didn't Dye just up his salary next year to $7 mil with that award? Just curious. -
QUOTE(danman31 @ Nov 10, 2006 -> 02:19 AM) Don't get mad at me for hating on U of I because this thread is a U of I lovefest, but...what a dumbass Benn is. He's going to a s***ty football school that's not a regional pick for him or anything. On top of that he can watch Zook blow multiple games from the sidelines while his talent goes undeveloped. Then again, I guess when the team on the field doesn't win anything the fans have to root for recruiting victories. If all players thought like that, then you'd have a depth chart of 8 5-star players on certain teams. NOw, you and I, who couldn't play our way out of a paper bag and have to watch and envy these 18 year olds, can EASILY say, oh, I'd rather win. But, I think what's on the top of mind with a lot of these guys is, "Oh, I'd rather PLAY!" You can't showcase your talent from the bench. And if ESPN is any indication, all it takes is one energetic player to be on TV. Why do you think the Illini have been on ESPN and ESPN2 as much as they have this year? To see John Stocco and the Badgers? To see JoePa (ok, maybe to see JoePa.). No, it's because of Juice. And it's because they are IN games this year. They are exciting and are only going to get better. Bottom line, Benn wants to play, he wants to go to a team, where when the get better, he is seen as a catalyst. I see nothing wrong with that.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 07:17 PM) OK, does your way involve any additional effort on your part? Meditation? Prayer? Bible? Volunteering? I agree with you that Heaven is not just for those that have been saved by organized religions. But, it seems that if someone professes some faith, their should be some actions to support that faith, and an hour a week for YOUR creator seems easy enough. Fixed. The thing I don't like about standard religion is the things people do in the NAME of it. Crusades, jihads, etc. Believe what you want to believe and apply it to yourself. If there is a judgment, don't judge me, someone of a much higher power will. Also, people who won't acknowledge that there COULD be another religion out there that MAY be right. Uch, that drives me crazy. To me, religion is ethereal and subject to interpretation, otherwise there wouldn't be this many different religions and sub-religions. BTW, I'm Jewish, just so's ya'll know.

QUOTE(Jimbo @ Nov 9, 2006 -> 04:27 PM) Its just one receiver...im playing dumb, but whats so great about one guy. Hopefully, one guy begets another 4 or 5 star recruit, who begets another 4 or 5 star recruit, who begets another 4 or 5 star recruit, and so on, and so on.... THAT'S what's so great about the guy. Getting a 5 star, arguably one of the best WRs in the class over Florida State and Notre Dame...AND to a 2-7 team. THAT'S a HUGE get.
