  1. QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 05:42 PM) Why? Buehrle >>>>>>>> Young. And then to throw in Pods? C'mon, we better be getting back some young pitching. Hopefully LHP. I'll take a workhorse LHP over just about any player out there.
  2. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 05:38 PM) Supposedly a local radio station in Texas is mentioning a possible Buehrle/Pods for Michael Young deal being discussed. A couple of guys in my sim league are talking about it. Just throwing it out there. I hope to hell we are getting MUCH MUCH more than Michael Young. MUCH more. Did I mention we should get A LOT more!
  3. But if you read the rest of the story, it says Atlanta will get Soriano. But wait, they already DID get Soriano. Does that mean that this trade is off?
  4. Houston out of the trading picture?
  5. QUOTE(knightni @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 01:59 PM) DJ reminds me of Uecker's color guy in Major League when Hawk gets going. It's almost getting to the point of the old Harry Caray days, when Harry would call innings 1-3 and 7-9 and I think it was Milo Hamilton would come over from the radio side and do innings 4-6. DJ does get to do some pbp.
  6. QUOTE(knightni @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 01:42 PM) I voted Josh Lewin as well. He's an excellent pbp guy. Really? To me he's just a big ol' snore.
  7. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 12:58 PM) Knowing KW, he may just go after a big fish after all. However, if there was one guy KW would overpay for it is Rowand, he carries sentimental value for this organization. Im a big fan of Rowand and all, but like you guys said we can do a whole lot better, and if KW can somehow bring Vernon Wells (a no miss CF gold glove capable outfielder) than i say go for it! But like i said before, its going take a crap load to bring him over. Were talking Anderson, Garcia and Broadway most likely. Now i would do that ONLY if he garunteed to sign an extension with us (similar to the Garcia for Olivo, Reed deal a few years back) would anyone take Chacin along with Wells?
  8. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 12:27 PM) the money is crazy, I can't wait to see what Lily and Meche eventually get. IMO big loss for the Cubs, they spend a ton on Soriano and haven't done anything to improve their roation. Now they'll probably have to give a ton to one of the two above mentioned pitchers so they at least have arms they can count on to give them innings and have major league experience. If the Cubs can't upgrade that rotation, expect a lot of 11-9 games. (Cubs lose, of course.)
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:55 AM) I don't worry about the long reliever position too much due to Ozzie's use of our starters. No matter how bad they're doing, our starters will always go 6 innings. But since Haeger is a knuckleballer, he would be easy to plug in if one of our starters gets hurt. Then we would only have to dip into the minors for the last arm out of the bullpen, not a spot starter. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 12:06 PM) As far as the trade goes, I digress to the more knowledgeable here. But as for the Rowand-bashing, can I point out this? As somebody else noted: Rowand = hard worker, may mask his lesser talent (although I don't remember a lot of balls getting by him, he just doesn't glide to them as easily as Anderson) Anderson = lots of talent, but we're not seeing it (at the plate at least) Rowand = okay hitter, but can hit lefties Anderson = awful hitter So it's almost sort of a wash--do you want to hard worker with less talent, or the more talented fielder but who's not reaching his potential? Here's the one thing that everybody overlooks: Rowand was a clubhouse leader. That "spark" sure didn't seem to be on the bench in 2006 with him gone. Do we really think that sort of contribution should be disregarded? I'm not saying this trade is a good idea, but I am saying that I think it's off-base to suggest Rowand coming back is a bad thing. Just the opposite. If it's the right price. Anderson has played one year of major league baseball. I don't think it's fair to call him an awful hitter yet.
  10. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 07:53 PM) I need to pee now.... does this mean men can start leaving the seat up and not get b****ed at? YES!!! Awesome. And now I know what to get my mother-in-law!
  11. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 04:59 PM) Those are the same brainiacs that use the combination of .... NOW we're talking.
  12. QUOTE(ChiSox9 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 08:12 AM) Regardless of everything, I dont feel that there is room for mack and his $2M plus salary on this team. We have a solid option with Sweeny in AAA to fill in in the outfield. Our Bench would look more attractive with: Ozuna (in/of), Cintron (in), Gload (in/of), Sweeny (of), Backup Catcher IMHO. I'll tell you what Mack gives you...a guy who can play the corner outfield positions and 3B, 2B and 1B in the infield. AND a left-handed bat off the bench that has some pop. Definitely more than Cintron. I won't comment on Sweeney since he hasn't played in the majors too much. Your bench players have a bunch of singles hitters on it. While not horrible, there needs to be SOME pop off the bench. And Mack give you flexibility. Crede's back up could be Cintron OR Mack OR Ozuna. Uribe's back up can be Cintron. Iguchi's back up can be Ozuna Or Mack. Konerko's back up could be Gload OR Mack. Dye can have Mack back him up. Anderson can have Ozuna back him up and Pods, if he's still here, can have Gload OR Mack back him up. That is flexibility, and from what I've seen over the past couple of years, is what Ozzie likes. And please let's not start the, Well player A is better than player B at X position. I'm not saying they are starting everyday, these are once a week or two.
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 05:22 PM) Yahoo reports Mets talked to the Sox today about Garcia. Omar Minaya: "Hey Boras! Yo Zito! We don't NEED you. We would LIKE you." Borat: "I like you. Do you like me?"
  14. QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 06:07 AM) Why has she not been charged with indecent exposure? If a man had done something similar and been photographed while doing so, you can bet he would have been arrested by now. Ladies bodies = pretty. Men's bodies = yuck. /end debate.
  15. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 12:27 PM) I have a new one!!! But I am not going to type it here in case my bosses happen to wander by. Oh...f*** it...mandatory company Christmas parties can kiss my f'in ass. Shouldn't that be Holiday party? MAN, are you insensitive! My wife's Holiday party is the day before mine...AT THE SAME PLACE!!! That kinda sucks. Kid, maybe you can suggest where the party should be next year...maybe Chuck E. Cheese or a strip club...then you will never be asked to go again... ...well, maybe they would want you if you suggested the strip club.
  16. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 12:40 PM) I'll never forget a game last year. Bottom of the 9th, we are down 1 run, and AJ lines a shot into section 114 and breaks a guy's nose. If the guy had ducked, it would have smacked me square in the nuts. During all the commotion to help the guy, Pablo smacks a dinger to go into extra innings. Ahh, the smell of bleach perfuming my section (to clean the blood off all the seats), as the Sox won it in 11. Nice. Maybe you should pay more attention during games?
  17. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 12:34 PM) Free agent after '07 though it appears he may be negotiating a long term deal with the Sox currently. Do you think it's Buehrle? Or do you think it's both?
  18. QUOTE(WCSox @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 11:25 AM) $14 mil/year for Mark is reasonable. That said, it'll likely be a five-year deal. Unless JR can get a "hometown discount" at 5/$60, I think that he's gone after this year. I just can't see JR committing $70 million to a pitcher who has mediocre stuff and a ton of innings on his arm. He's still 28, a lefty, he doesn't have any pitches that put heavy torque on his arm like a Zito does, he pitches to the defense and has won a World Series. If he does it for anyone, I think Mark would be the guy.
  19. QUOTE(WCSox @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 11:21 AM) Freddy and Carpenter are apples and oranges. No way that Freddy gets $14 million/year... at least, not from the Sox. Sorry, I didn't mean for Freddy, I meant for Mark.
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 11:13 AM) 3 years for Buehrle? He would laugh us out of the room. We have to pray he would take 5 in this market place. If you have a mutual option for 2 more years, that's pretty much a 5 year deal.
  21. I found this at Baseball Reference when looking up Chris Carpenter. These are the similar pitchers. If you go to the site, it will explain their rating system. I think FG is higher because he's been around longer. 1. Moose Haas (955) 2. Matt Morris (955) 3. Freddy Garcia (950) 4. George Pipgras (947) 5. Erik Hanson (945) 6. Tex Carleton (944) 7. Mark Buehrle (940) 8. Rick Reed (940) 9. La Marr Hoyt (939) 10. Teddy Higuera (939) http://www.baseball-reference.com/about/similarity.shtml QUOTE(WCSox @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 11:05 AM) I agree, if Buehrle is the one who is re-signed. Unless he's willing to take a paycut, I'd rather not see the Sox re-sign Freddy and his mid-80's fastball. I think Carpenter just set the market. Maybe 3/42 with an player/team option year or two. That's a mil a year more than Carpenter, who's older and has a bit of an injury history.
  22. QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 10:10 AM) I wish our baserunners ran like his mouth Ozzie gets caught too much. /green
  23. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 07:24 AM) You mean a choice between drinking/eating yourself to death or giving literally billions of dollars back to the rest of the world? Give me Carnegie anytime. But could Carnegie hit a curveball? Methinks not.
  24. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 10:06 AM) Then he doesnt get a pitcher, see how that works? KW doesnt need to make sure that the deal is even on both sides, because he holds all the cards. If the Mets dont want to do that deal, we move on to the next one. Bingo! This is the first time Kenny has gone in on the sellers side, if I remember correctly. Usually he's the one being turned down. Now, he can go in and say, "So, you don't want to give us 3 of your top 3 major-league ready prospects? Okee dokee, it was nice meeting with you today. By the way, have you tried the turkey leg at Disney/MGM? It's to die for. Good day. I said good day."
  25. QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 11:39 PM) Yeah, he might. But not from his beloved Cardinals, that's for sure. And not if he struggles again this year. And not if the market reacts harshly to this spending spree going on right now. It's very easy to say he might get this and he might get that, but in all reality, would YOU turn down a chance at $55 million in guaranteed money and a chance to stay with the only organization you have ever been with (and recently won a World Championship with), to gamble at 5/75? I mean, I realize that is an extra 20 million there, but in all practical terms, what could he do with $15 million a year that he couldn't do with $11 million annually? Juan Gonzalez says hi.
