  1. QUOTE(SnB @ Nov 21, 2006 -> 04:29 PM) having an argument between a 4/5 team is way less relevant than trying to decide the 2nd and 3rd best. A 4 team playoff is where it should be. What's wrong with an 8 team playoff? You can restore the glory of a couple of bowl games...Cotton and Gator come to mind. Cotton could even move to the new Cowboys stadium, if they sign off on that. So you'd have a rotation of Gator, Cotton, Sugar, Fiesta, Rose, Orange and then one of those can be the plus-one each year.
  2. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 21, 2006 -> 10:53 AM) didn't see that one coming.... Really? There have been rumors about this for a loooong time.
  3. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Nov 21, 2006 -> 05:36 AM) And oh yes, the classicly hilarious Bill Hicks bit from Chicago where he blasts the Hell out of a woman trying to ruin his set. Comics have said lots of things. If you believe what is said on stage as literal truth, then I've got some beachfront property in the middle of a landlocked state to sell you. "I've dug a real hole on this one, didn't I?" Hilarious. Look both LCR and Jeckle are right. Its the old adage, I don't come to your place of work and heckle you, do I? And sometimes comedians go off the edge, there's two examples that are CAUGHT ON TAPE. Who knows how many times this has happened, not on tape. Richards went too far, but to me, he got really angry and flew off the deep end. Anyone on here perfect enough to say that hasn't happened? That you get so emotional that these horrible things spew out of your mouth? Didn't think so. Let me do a little comparison: There have been rumblings for years about Mel Gibson being anti-semitic. He has alluded to some things in interviews over the years. So one day, he gets drunk, gets pulled over, the ego kicks in, and bam...here comes the slurs, sugartits. Has anyone heard anything about Michael Richards being a bigot? There's no public history there. Maybe he really is a bigot, and in the court of public opinion, he is. But that doesn't mean that we shouldn't give him another chance. Oh yeah, and where are all the people outraged at the hecklers using "cracker." Pot...meet kettle.

  6. If some team gives Gil Meche the $8 mil per he wants...that will trump ALL of the others...except maybe for Matsuzuka.
  7. QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Nov 20, 2006 -> 01:02 PM) The more I think about it, upgrading center with a guy like Patterson might be a good way to go. Anderson seems out of favor. If the Sox were to get a centerfielder to lead off like Patterson, Pierre, Figgins, or even Crawford (not sure if he can play center), they could keep Podsednik and put him in the mix with Anderson, Sweeney, Owens, Mackowiak, Gload, and Fields for left and let the best player or platoon duo earn the job. A speedy shortstop such as Rollins would work also. If Podsednik returns to form he would at the very least have value to trade. Especially if guys like Pierre and Matthews are really getting 10 mil per year contracts. If he doesn't really return, he can at least be moved with his reasonable contract. Let's keep Scotty but plan on him batting 9th instead of leadoff. It would give Ozzie his team speed. Patterson strikes out waaaay too much to be a leadoff hitter. And this team is gonna get a bullpen before they get a new LF/leadoff...unless they come together. So far, the addition by patience method seems to be working compared to what the free agents have been getting. AND, if the Sox can't get everything they need through trades, I would be ok with the Sox fielding the same team again, but like someone said, Pods better be in damn good shape.
  8. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 20, 2006 -> 07:48 PM) I'm surprised you of all people would consider Danks and Young equals. Young is one hell of a prospect, dont get me wrong, but getting an arm like Danks is much, much more valuable than an outfielder like Young. AND, I wonder if it would help get his brother Jordan, who, if I remember correctly, was drafted by the Sox by decided to go to Texas for a few years.
  9. But that top of the order...whew...Pierre and Furcal. That's some major speed up there. Unless the Dodgers would want to part with Furcal?

  12. QUOTE(infohawk @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 01:24 PM) Years from now Kenny's going to be trying to land Andruw Jones, Robbie Alomar, Carl Everett and Ken Griffey Jr. for his canasta team in the retirement home. Fixed.
  13. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 12:12 PM) Especially at 3B, he is a butcher there. He also has the same noodle arm as PODS if I remember correctly. The one thing that he can do better and that Ozzie wants is someone who can bunt...either for a hit or for a sacrifice. Pierre's good at it. Figgins is good at it. But, I would bet it's gotta be Garcia + someone for Santana and Figgins.
  14. QUOTE(VAfan @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 09:57 AM) So far, this offseason is not looking good for the Sox moving back to the top of the AL Central. I suppose the best news is that Liriano is out next year. But there don't appear to be good answers to any of the following questions: So far? SO FAR? Jeez, who HAS done anything? Blue Jays have been the biggest splash so far with Frank Thomas, a 38-year-old base clogging DH. I think it's a little early to say the offseason isn't looking good. This team doesn't need much. Yes, some of your points are true, but that doesn't mean KW needs to make a wholesale change. Let's just sit back and see what Kenny has in his pocket before we fly off the handle.
  15. I think we should trade him to the Cubs, they might want to slot him into a starting pitchers slot. Maybe we can get David Aardsma and Carlos Vasquez for him?
  16. I saw Aardsma pitch a lot when he was with Rice...well at least in the World Series and he was shutting down batters left and right. I think this is a good 2-fer. Aardsma will be good with a little Coop coaching. Vasquez is a throw in who might not turn out too bad. And someone mentioned something about Kenny Williams "losing his magic" or something like that...EVERY GM has good and bad trades/signings. They all have clunkers. The good thing about Kenny is that he's not afraid to make a tough trade as long as he and the coaching staff are on the same page. That makes him a good GM in my book.
  17. According to the ESPN Rumor Central (which is an Insider service so I won't post, but if anyone has it, they can confirm), the price that's being bandied about for JD Drew's services is around 4/$56mil. Um...yeah. I don't know what's worse, the fact that he thinks that he can get that or the fact that he probably will.
  18. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 02:56 PM) http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews....=rss&rpc=23 Wow...they just talked about him on the Colbert Report with the CEO of Timberland.
  19. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 11:42 AM) I love Anderson, but take a look at Wells and his numbers. If Williams was able to get Toronto to do Wells for Garcia and Broadway, he should run back to Chicago, and find a really good hiding spot, because it would be a steal. If we didn't have other pressing needs, I would do that, but JP Ricciardi would be bombarded by backbacon and Molson if he did that trade.
  20. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 09:37 AM) Gload in LF and hitting second, new shortstop who can hit leadoff (one of the many discussed here, or maybe even Young, not prototypical, but high OBP). That would be ideal, IMO. That's a LOT of trading for major league talent...which scares me because the cupboard is getting pretty bare. Let's worry about pitching first, that's what's going to win.

One of my favorites for summer driving is Moonpools and Caterpillars. Awesome band that was cut short. Or just fell out of favor. The other is The Vandalias.
