  1. Wow...just wow. I don't care who made this commercial. It makes me sick. Hey, let's pray on the fears of Americans instead of telling them what they will try to do once they get in office. Every election makes me hate politics more and more.
  2. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Oct 19, 2006 -> 04:28 PM) All I know is that Denver International and O'Hare are 2 fantastic airports. Denver is a great airport...if you don't have to go to Denver. It's like an hour away from the city...with no traffic.
  3. Just a question: With Gordon now an IU commit, do the Illini go hard after Mayo?
  4. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 19, 2006 -> 10:35 AM) I can't for the life of me figure out why in the world they'd deal Ibanez. Might as well ask for King Felix while you're at it. To get younger? To shed some payroll? Because he eats his sushi with a fork?
  5. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 07:52 PM) The Fear of Flying thread made me think of this. Answer one, some or all of the following: 1. Best airport 2. Worst airport 3. Best airline 4. Worst airline 5. Longest air travel excursion 6. Funniest/best/worst air travel experiences. Great thread Northside... 1. Austin, Providence, Zurich, O'Hare (sentimental reasons), the old Midway (haven't been through the new one yet), 2. ATLANTA! San Jose, Frankfurt, Pasco, Cleveland, Heathrow, LAX, St. Louis 3. American 4. Delta...by far! 5. Rome-Zurich-Chicago-Austin. 24 hours. Went through security 3 TIMES!!! I mean, I'm all for security, but after the first two times, don't ya think we're ok! 6. I have two. First, Austin to Raleigh. I was sitting in the aisle seat on Southwest and we hit some bad weather around Raleigh. And when I say bad, I mean, they had a tornado near Raleigh. And they, um, don't get tornados in Raleigh from what I hear. Anyway, we were circling for an hour in crappy weather, which means turbulance, and since it was nighttime and I couldn't see outside, I was starting to get airsick. Luckily I kept it together. Second, Chicago to New York LaGuardia. It had rained and rained and rained and rained and rained and rained in New York to where LaGuardia's runways flooded. In fact, it flooded so much and rained so hard that the terminal started to flood. Soooo, my Noon flight turned into a 8 pm flight. We got on the plane and sat for nearly 3 hours on the tarmac. Finally got to LaGuardia at 1 am...hotel at 2 am. THEN, two days later, my flight was cancelled going back to Chicago because of weather...IN CHICAGO!!! Fortunately, I called American and they switched me to a flight out of JFK...in first class.
  6. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 09:50 PM) lol ok I'll whisper for now. But once 400,000,000 comes I'm yelling again. When that happens, you'll be on my lap. Rowwrrr... Sorry, creepy.
  7. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 07:31 PM) Nyquil does the trick. I don't have a fear of flying, but I do have a brother who lives in Europe who I visit often and I can't sleep in a plane. That was until someone turned me on to Nyquil. Drink about half a bottle when you board, and when you wake up, you will be well rested and at your destination. Yeah, after you finish gagging. /no green YUCK!

QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 05:46 PM) Just wondering. I think the answer is, "yes." There are some who go into the doctor and ask meaningful questions and some go in and say, I want that! To me, it's just more white noise. Blah, blah, blah, arthritis. Blah, blah, blah, Mandy Patinkin's cholesterol. Blah, blah, blah, erections lasting more than four hours.
  9. QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Oct 19, 2006 -> 09:24 AM) My family used to have season tickets to the Blackhawks and I used to live and die with the team. Once they moved to the UC, my interested faded a little more each year. By the time the lockout wiped out the season two years ago, I hardly cared. Last year, they were out of the playoffs by Thanksgiving. I do have to say, seeing these guys play this year (on road TV only) that I am enthused and excited for the games. Hopefully they can bring the fans back. The old barn used to rock and the destruction of this franchise has been sickening since then. Let's hope they win and can overcome $ Bill Wirtz and his dinosaur mentality. Go Hawks! Let's hope this organ-I-zation makes it possible for the Wirtz' to sell it.
  10. QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 11:29 PM) You got a very good point there. I agree with you. There is no way a player that played professionally in another country is going to go back into a draft process to prove himself. They should be treated like free agents.
  11. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 19, 2006 -> 10:00 AM) Well, mine works as you can move the more flexible and talented player to a new position while not taking a chance with the less talented less flexible guy in a new position. It's not like you are asking Dye to move to C. That I would never do. Yes, everything is opposite, but I think Dye would be able to handle it. That being said, talking about Mariners, what about Raul Ibanez? He wouldn't be the lead off answer, but the boy can hit.
  12. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 01:28 AM) I feel crowded now. 300,000,000 is so much more than 299,999,999. Can you not talk so loud? I'm standing right next to you.

  14. Recess 2050: "Alright kids, it's time for recess." "YAAAY." "Does everyone have their Wairbags®?" "YEEEAAAHHH!" "OK! Now go outside, get in your safety bubble, and most importantly...don't touch anything or anyone. Oh yeah, and have fun!" I think it's time someone sued the school for banning fun.
  15. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 11:30 AM) I found that a combo of xanax and bloody mary worked for my trip to Vegas. How long were you in that coma Kid? Larry Eustachian tubes?
  16. What gets me through flying, even though I really don't have a fear as much as an excitement, is to nerd out. I think of the engineering feats that gets that flying metal tube off the ground. Sure, I've been scared with bad takeoffs and landings...flying through horrible weather and the like, but at the end of the day, you will get there. The other thing I try to think of is the millions of people who have done that action before me and survived. yes, there are people who haven't, but there is a far, far, FAR greater majority that are fine. Concentrate on what a fantastic time you are going to have in Iceland and if you see Bjork, get her autograph for me.
  17. A friend of mine and I were talking right before the AZCards punted and he says, "I don't want them to give this ball back to the offense." And I said, "We won't have to." BOOM! Goes the Dynamite...Devin Hester runs it back. My friend turns to me and says, I can't believe you just called that. And I said, "Team of destiny, my man, team of destiny." Ok, I didn't really say that, I jumped around like a little girl, missed high fives with other Bear fans in the bar because we were so excited and yelled, "I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT JUST HAPPENED!!! DAAAAAAAAA BEARSSSS!!!"
  18. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 11:37 AM) Manny is vastly superior to Pods in lf. The only major knock when it comes to Manny's defense is whether he tries. When he does try (which contrary to popular belief is most of the time) he's actually pretty darn solid out there. Now I don't know how he'd do having to cover a bit more ground (not having the monster) but he is very very good at getting off quick and accurate throws and actually throwing guys out. I watched a lot of Manny in LF this past year and my opinion of his defense greatly changed and I now thing he's a better fielder than anyone gives him credit for. Sorry...I don't buy it. He knew how to play the Monster. And people would run on him trying to stretch a single off the MOnster to a double. He doesn't have a good first step to the ball and he's not as fast as he once was (or lollygags around the outfield depending if there are shiny things around). He does have a good arm. No thanks...we don't need that kind of offense.
  19. Has Pierre ever played LF? I wouldn't mind it. I'll take a few more bunt hits and sacrifices over a few more walks. Ozzie isn't Billy Beane, he's not an OBP fanatic. Ozzie likes to put pressure on the opposing defense and trying tolure them into making mistakes. Plus, he has a great relationship with Ozzie. It's not an ideal signing, but it works for the direction the team wants to go in, so why the heck not? Maybe he'll give us a Jermaine Dye Discount®?
  20. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 07:31 PM) Yeah, and everyone should quit their job before looking for another one. Makes perfect sense. Didn't I just say that in the last line...if it's going to be a business, then fine. Nothing stops my company for gathering resumes just in case I quit, but to actively recruit and interview my replacement would make me worry and I'd be out the door much faster, even if they liked me and weren't planning on letting me go. Also, if I offer you a job, and you accept, I STOP LOOKING!!! Last I checked, most of the time, those are verbal agreements, until I start on my first day and sign some sort of employee contract. But, if I'm still getting offers, I'm not going to accept a job. By the way, the door for snarkiness is on the right.

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Oct 14, 2006 -> 07:39 AM) For the party I'm going to: Only wearing a pair of nice Dockers and that's it. I'm going as a premature ejaculation -- I just came in my pants. I'm so glad that I wasn't drinking coffee at the time I read this...THAT IS HYSTERICAL! Can I borrow it?
  22. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 07:14 AM) 300,000,000 yeah! Hmm, I don't feel any different.
  23. What you all may be forgetting is the Dee Brown factor...yes, he's gone, but that might not be a bad team. Last year, at times, the Illini would stand around and wait to see what Dee would do. Same with James Augustine. Weber seems like the kinda coach that would say to his kids, [insert gravely voice here] "Hey, the big stars are gone now, it's on you to show what you got and prove these pollsters wrong." McBride will be back after a few games...5 at the most, I would imagine. The Illini will be in the top half of the Big Ten, possibly top 3. Get to the semis of the conference tournament, get a 4 or 5 seed and make it AT LEAST to the Sweet Sixteen. Watch for a breakout year from some of these same players that others on this board are dogging.
  24. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 10:18 AM) I think KW is actually making a strong push for him. I can't believe he is the first GM to call about him. If New York would be willing to pay some of his ridiculous salary like Texas for him already. Crede and Garcia I might have to agree to that. A-Rod's defense might not be as good as Crede's but, A-Rod is probably one of the top 3 best hitters of all time. But does this team need another power hitter?!? Can Arod steal bases? Because what we need is more speed. I honestly think A-Rod would go back to SS. And they would either sign a FA or bring up Josh Fields. Also, there's a pitcher out there we may want to consider: Doug Davis. had a down year this year, but had a hell of a year last year. Just throwing that out there. Oh yeah, and Jason...NO TO MANNY! Pods was difficult enough to watch in LF...I couldn't even imagine watching Manny being Manny.
  25. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 01:34 PM) Are you aware that Gordon and his family were the ones to inititate the contact with Indiana? http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...llege-headlines Yes I am. We all knew. The honest thing to do would be to decommit as soon as he was arond 50/50 about Ui vs. IU.
