October 18, 200619 yr I played "Smear the *****" in gradeschool. (PS: Yes I know the title isn't "P.C." but that IS what it was called) Officials at an elementary school south of Boston have banned kids from playing tag, touch football and any other unsupervised chase game during recess for fear they'll get hurt and hold the school liable. When I was in 3rd grade (roughly 1991), we played TACKLE football. My friend broke his collar bone, but still. We WERE allowed to play it. Note: Edited by Tex.
October 18, 200619 yr they took our football away in elementary school. So we played imaginary football. The amazing thing is there was like no arguments about what happened. If someone called an interception its the way it was.
October 18, 200619 yr When I read the topic, I was like..."Why would 4th graders need body spray?"... heh
October 18, 200619 yr They should probably ban showers after PE too. Don't want anyones feelings to get hurt there either.
October 18, 200619 yr God I'm out of it today, when I read the headline I assumed it was Tag Body Spray, and was just overly confused...
October 18, 200619 yr My daughter was running around on the concrete at her school one day before the morning bell rang. She tripped and fell and chipped her two front teeth on the concrete. Obviously we missed our chance to sue the school to retire young. What where they thinking putting a sidewalk at the school were kids could fall on it and get hurt? My point is that suing the school was never even a thougth that crossed our minds. How could any parent think of that? It was my daughter's fault for tripping over her own big feet. We took her to the dentist, he patched her up and everything is fine now. They're kids, kids get hurt while they are playing games and running around. Next we are going to be dressing them up in full body armor complete with helmets and facemasks. BTW, this isn't the first time I've heard of a school doing something like this... October 18, 200619 yr Tag?!?! We played tackle football, maul-ball (like Rugby) and bombardment at recess. Not to mention dodgeball in gym. There was a whole discussion on this in Buster. This country has become sue-happy. Kids are going to be come vegetables with all the video games and wimps with the lack of risk. Sad.
October 18, 200619 yr We played tackle football on frickin' blacktop and no one ever got hurt outside of the expected scrapes. Yet they wnat to ban tag....for what?
October 18, 200619 yr Growing up my pediatrician always told my mom that a few bruises, scrapes, and skinned knees/elbows just meant you have a healthy active child. Sounds like more parents should take that advice. . .
October 18, 200619 yr I really thought the reason was going to be sexual harrassment, not the fear of lawsuits. \

Of course one of my fav's was capture the flag but that was just a more high tech sneaky version of tag in a sense. Truly lame of that school. I absolutely loved playing big games of tag in parks.
October 18, 200619 yr You take something away such as "tag" or flag football--even for reasons such as liability-- these kids are going to compensate. So, they'll just create other, more violent games. Or release there aggression out across other areas deemed safe, such as basketball. I propose the reemergence of V-Bombs. Atleast that's what we called them in grammar school. You would tightly fold up a sheet of paper, fold it into a 'V', and then lauch it from a rubber-band at someone. This little activity made recess during the winter months enjoyable. Nothing could POSSIBLY go wrong from kids these days using V-Bombs. Edited October 18, 200619 yr by Flash Tizzle

We'll see more and more violence in schools, if we take away simple playing activities.
October 18, 200619 yr Recess 2050: "Alright kids, it's time for recess." "YAAAY." "Does everyone have their Wairbags®?" "YEEEAAAHHH!" "OK! Now go outside, get in your safety bubble, and most importantly...don't touch anything or anyone. Oh yeah, and have fun!" I think it's time someone sued the school for banning fun.
