QUOTE(3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Nov 2, 2006 -> 11:01 PM) these commercials are such a cocktease, i really want to try sonic, just the sides make me wet, tater tots and mozzarella sticks (though White Castle satisfies this). Those toast breakfast sandwiches look good as hell too. Any out of towners have them? Do they deliver? LOL @ new commercial, BREAKFEAST! WOOOOOOOWWWW, breakFEAST! By the way, the guy in the commercials is TJ Jagodowski. I used to work with him and he is hilarious. Actually, I used to work with both those guys, the other guy is Peter Grosz. Not sure if they are still around Chicago, but if you have a chance, see them!

QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 10:33 AM) http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2006/11/02/...buse_Arrest.php for the victims and the police officers whose job it is to view this perversion and try to prevent it. More at link. Not being able to get there before the abuse started must be the most frustrating position to be in. This sick f*** should be locked up forever and ever. He won't be locked up for long...not because of weak punishment, but because the other inmates won't take too kindly to his type. And y'know what...good riddance.

From the Sun-Times BLOG by Michael O'Brien. I'm just posting it because I remember reading it. This is an opinion, but he knows more than I do, so TIFWIW:

QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 05:04 AM) The sox shouldn't and won't pay $2.75 mill to a 4th OFer. Esp one that can't play CF. Mack will probably be traded. With Sweeney around to fill in if someone goes down, Mack is expendable. Cintron is more valuable as he can play three IF spots. Yes they should, because he can play 3B, 2B, the corner outfield spots and is a LHB. Ozzie players that give him flexibility (see: Cintron, Ozuna, even Gload).

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 10:27 AM) It's official: Brian Anderson is indeed a communist. Shouldn't that be in red?

I'm not as upset that Juan or Crede didn't win it as much as it now taints (heh, taint) the award for those who truly have deserved it. The Ozzie Smith's, the Brooks Robinsons, the Willie Mays, etc. I mean, Ozzie Smith > Juan Uribe >>>>>>>>Derek Jeter.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 2, 2006 -> 05:26 PM) The GG, like the Heisman and most other media-voted awards, is absolute garbage. There is no correlation between winning it and being what the winner was intended to be. Except for one thing...$$$.

4 1/2 more years of finger waggling!

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 2, 2006 -> 11:05 AM) He was 22 in 2003, pretty much fresh out of the minors. And he'd be a fine leadoff hitter, regardless of what his numbers say. He's hitting #2 in Tampa because that's where Maddon felt he fit best in the lineup, and there's no reason beyond that. And 4 World Series victories since 1998, including 6 World Series appearances. The Yankees have also made the playoffs 12 straight years. He's in the same league, offense wise, as Pierre. Obviously, he'd be a much better LF'er. But, he's better as a 2, than a leadoff. And you can't compare 1998 Yankees with todays Yankees. Tino, O'Neill, Bernie, Brosius don't compare to the ridiculous salaries of A-Rod, Giambi, Sheffield and Damon. They started spending money on big-time names and talents and haven't won since. Pitching wins WS (or this year, pitchers being able to throw to a base that isn't home). Crawford would be great, but not for McCarthy.

QUOTE(Jimbo @ Nov 1, 2006 -> 05:29 PM) Just about to post that awesome...why would an illini fan even pay attention to their football team right now......Its bball season. two reasons, one because the football team is getting better and two, bball doesn't really get started until mid-November anyway...I mean, Lewis? SIU-E? Wake me when they play Maryland.

And even with the "Win Now" approach that people have been talking about, ask the Red Sox and Yankees about that. Biggest payrolls, 1 World Series win between them since 2001. I'd rather have B-Mac and Roberts than our current 5 starters and Crawford.
-
Carl Crawford is NOT a leadoff hitter. His stats for 2003-2005 in the #1 spot were .294/.332/.447. And last year it was .253/.323/.310. Great for a number 2 hitter, but NOT for leadoff. In the spirit of the season, I vote NO on the Carl Crawford Bill.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 1, 2006 -> 04:05 PM) Josh Bone our one incoming freshman this season is out 4-6 weeks now. That to go along with Chris Cornelius being out for the season and we've lost a bit of the great depth it looked like we were going to have. Hopefully Bone can come back healthy and be able to contribute but for the mean time we'll still be fine just with less depth than before. Heh, you said bone. -
No thanks, I'll take the relative uncertainty of Brandon over Crawford. But, if we could offer some other package for Crawford...I'm all for it. Young cheap pitching should never be traded for offense...unless it's Boone Logan for Pujols.

You are all forgetting one thing...he's not dead. Cheney shuttled him in Air Force 2 to Argentina or something. Seriously, though, the money was earned illegally. I see this as almost like alimony. Mrs. Lay should be able to get, maybe, the house in Houston and then a monthly stipend, decided by the court so she can live on. We all know that some of those monthly alimony checks can be pretty hefty. Maybe take her cut, put it in some sort of trust or account that will earn interest to keep her payments at the same level. That way, she will never want, won't necessarily live modestly, but then the rest can be distributed to the people Ken Lay screwed. Just a thought.

I said sometimes as well. If they are hurting themselves, like with drug or alcohol abuse, then that won't sway my opinion, but when that abuse starts affecting their mouth (paging Mr. Gibson...) then, yes, I'll boycott. Also, Tom Cruise just annoys me, but I don't know if I've gotten to the point of boycotting. Anyone boycott Polanski here? As for advertising, since it's sorta what I do for a living (I like to say I work FOR and advertising agency, not IN advertising...I know, I know, it's nitpicking, but it keeps me sane), I would say that advertising isn't going to appeal to everyone, all the time, but even not-so-good advertising can do the trick. I judge based on the product, if it's a bad ad, but it has something that I might try, I'll try it. But if the product doesn't do what it claims to do, or if a store or restaurant isn't what it claims to be, I'll never go back. The best advertising is word-of-mouth. And Rex, I think the Whole Foods thing kinda comes from being born in Texas, where it's a right-to-work state. Unions, as a whole, don't really mean too much down here.

QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 1, 2006 -> 05:05 AM) Agree. I hated Cancun. Whatever you decide, do lots of research. There are a ton of deals out there and as for what you have to spend... I absolutely positively HATE spending stupid amounts on hotel rooms. You sleep and shower there. I don't understand a grand for a hotel stay. A grand for a resort with everything included (food and drink) is another thing though. $2500 I think is more than enough to find something great. And it's about the time together not how many stars the hotel has.. Um...i don't know what you did on your honeymoon, but Me and Mrs. Can spent A LOT of time in the room... Seriously, though, Steff is right...research is the name of the game. I went to Disneyworld the first time around...and had an absolute blast (looking back, I wish I woulda left the first Mrs. Can there in the Haunted Mansion). I have friends who did the Sandals thing in St. Lucia and LOVED it. I don't know how much it cost, but everything is included except airfare and you can go to the other Sandals in St. Lucia and get the same deal. Good luck and congrats. When's the big day?

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Oct 31, 2006 -> 03:49 PM) New DePaul uniforms...I like the retro look, and the patch in honor of Coach Ray is done well... Those are close to the unis of the late 70's early 80's heyday of Aguirre, Cummings, Corbin etc. I love those unis and am glad to see the stripes. -

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Oct 31, 2006 -> 07:24 AM) to the earlier question about why someone would want to play at illinois. rex is correct in identifying playing time and the chance to be a part of a turnaround as a big factor. for benn, though, i also think that the quarterback situation plays a factor. from all accounts, juice is a pretty dynamic personality in addition to being pretty talented. he's taking his lumps and making mistakes now, but if you watch him, you can see where someone would want to play with him. i have a friend who plays defensive back for ohio state, and i've asked him about juice. he said from the film he's seen so far, he will be the best quarterback they've played all year. now, that doesn't account for much considering osu hasn't played a murderer's row of quarterbacks, but i thought it was a nice compliment and telling considering juice is a true freshman. The other thing is: Zook, for as poor of an in-game coach he is, he is willing to put the best team on the field, whether that's a senior or a freshman. And, he plays A LOT of players. And keeps them all in the game. Yes, Illinois has sucked for a long time now, but anyone who watches and knows football can see they aren't that far from being 1) good and 2) the top half of the Big Ten.

Anyone notice Jered Weaver was at the final WS game wearing full Cardinals gear? I know it's not the same, but c'mon...do you honestly think that the Angels are up in arms? Well, maybe they are , but still, it's no big deal.

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Oct 31, 2006 -> 08:59 AM) Well since young is going into his final year of his deal and so is Garcia, it would make sense for both teams. Texas NEEDS pitching and we LOVE Young. Hmm could an Uribe/Garcia for Young type deal occur? I can see it. Can Young be a leadoff hitter? Okay now a light bulb just went on in my head. First off patch up the bullpen!!!! Then trade Garcia and Uribe for Young. Next, sign Pierre or Roberts to play LF. 2006 Starting Lineup Pierre or Roberts LF Iguchi 2B Dye RF Thome DH Pauly 1B Young SS Crede 3B AJ C Anderson CF Rotation: Buerhle Garland Contreras Vazquez McCarthy That would be great, but your lineup is a bit off: Pierre or Roberts LF Young SS Dye Thome Pauly Iguchi Crede AJ Anderson I think the Sox will try as hard as they can to get Iguchi out of the No. 2 slot if they can. He's a run producer and even though he's done a fantastic job as a 2, he should be given the chance to drive in some runs.

Dave Roberts looking like a strong possibility
CanOfCorn replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The other thing Roberts can do that Pods seems to have lost is bunt. The Sox need someone who can bunt their way on and Roberts is that guy. If he's going to be an injury risk (even though we have the best trainer in MLB) I'd say 2-years with LOTS of incentives. -
Should the Cards win tonight, the Cubs two worst enemies...
CanOfCorn replied to wilmot825's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I understand what you all are saying, but MAN, the won with Weaver pitching out his butt, Pujols had, what, two RBI's? Edmonds is playing in a cloud of haze. Eckstein and Molina got them through this series...oh, and the fact that Detroit's young, inexperienced guys gacked this series away. A win is a win...congrats to the Cards, no matter how they won or how they got there... Of course, they were one more game over .500 in the playoff than they were in the regular season...(six vs. five). GACK!
