  1. Kenny is in a fantastic situation right now. He knows that we have the best record in baseball and a double digit lead with what we started the season with... He can walk into any trade scenarios and say...look, we don't NEED what you're selling. But, here's what we have to offer. Take it or don't... Do the Sox need an upgrade? No. I don't think there are any bricks missing in this wall. Loose, maybe, but that doesn't mean it won't hold up (of course another brick for insurance could always help).
  2. Derek Lowe is a groundball pitcher...in a pitcher's park...and still has given up 18 HRs so far this year. No thanks.
  3. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 06:35 PM) I think San Diego only wears camiflouge because of the naval base near there--so I would be pretty shocked if the Sox got them. And when I first read that post I thought he was talking about these camis. And I was very confused. Not to be confused with Camus. And I can't...I just can't imagine Sisyphus happy.
  4. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 03:37 PM) Uribe = 0 wives beaten Lugo = 1 wife beaten that may be the clincher I believe either the charges were dropped or he was acquitted. No problem anymore.

  6. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 03:11 PM) I don't think the Giants are going to pay any of his deal, hence why I asked the question. Here's his contract FWIW; 3-year deal worth 12.25M signed on 11/14/04 thru 2007 season- + he receives salaries of 2.5M in 2005, 4M in 2006 and 4M in 2007- + 1.75M of a signing bonus is deferred till 2008-2009 (1M paid in 2008 and 750K in 2009) That's not a bad contract if the Giants pick up the remainder of this year and the signing bonus. We can always turn around and trade him, too after this year or next. Milkman...c'mon, you know that even though they SAY they will do anything to win this year, that's not what management is THINKING.
  7. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 01:59 PM) Loooooooots of speculating here. First of all, 50-50 chance we even get Burnett. Secondly, let's be careful in what we expect from him if we do land him. He'd certainly help, but he's just the best of what's available right now. Let's keep it in perspective. Exactly my thoughts. He has better stuff than Kris Benson, but that's kind of what this reminds me of. And as for picking up some of Contreras' contract, wouldn't we just be handing some of the money that we got from the Yankees to the Marlins, if this trade happens?
  8. QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 02:55 PM) Would he be worth going after? It would make things complicated on D. But that bat of his can turn our offense around in a hurry. He can easily be a 30-30 guy for years to come if we can sign him long-term. I can see Texas interested in a deal Centered around BMAC. Things to consider : Where would we put Soriano on D ? Can we move tadahito or soriano to SS? I know Tadahito does not have the same arm he once had. He is in his contract year. Boston fans seem to think they can get him for Emree and Bellhorn!! The ONLY way I see this happening is if Rowand is included. That would open up CF for Soriano (even though he doesn't want to play CF). And, I don't likey.
  9. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 02:50 PM) The Sox have got to decide whether or not its advantageous to acquire Vizquel right now, when they wouldn't offer him a 3 year deal in the off-season. Sure he probably contribute next season, but what about in 2007? If the Giants are willing to pick up a good portion of his contract, say half, then why not? He could be a Sandy Alomar Jr. type...a SS and in-dugout infield coach. Uribe, if we decide to keep him, will be super-utility/Crede replacement.
  10. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 06:55 PM) This was originally my idea(PK for KGF And Dye to 1B) and everyone shot it down so damn quickly. Funny how things change. Again, where are the Reds going to put Paul? Back to 3B? I don't think so.
  11. QUOTE(upnorthsox @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 05:45 PM) For the Sox, this might be as good as it gets since there are one of only 3 complete teams(the other 2 being St Louis and Anaheim) out there. There are no complete teams. Every team has a weakness. Even WS champions. KDub will make a trade if he and the coaching staff thinks they NEED to.
  12. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 05:19 PM) Don't look at me.. Kenny is so tight right now he's about to poop a 10K diamond. YEEEEEEEE-OOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
  13. Kenny Williams did play the game, y'know as did Ozzie...they know what it's like to be in a clubhouse. And I believe they have good enough communication to tell if they truly feel they NEED another player. That's the key word...NEED. Griffey, Schmidt, Burnett, Guardado, Wagner, etc. Are they NEEDS? Well, a 62-30 record says no. But, if Don Cooper is losing faith in The Count, that might change. Or if Ozzie starts to lose faith in Crede or Uribe, that might change. But, it sounds like this team will live and die with each other right now...so, adding someone might not be such a great idea? Only people close to the organization know............. ...........Steff?
  14. QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 05:03 PM) Frank is taking some ridulous swings up there. He doesnt know whats going on at the plate. From Yahoo Sports Frank Thomas Player Page: April 292 1034 182 308 69 3 57 208 232 167 7 7 .298 .425 .536 .960 Frank Thomas April Splits Been better, but he is definitely serviceable...the problem is...he hasn't PLAYED in a year. I'm not worried now, I'll worry in early October.
  15. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 03:22 PM) I'm sick of hearing about abortion. Seems that people have this knee-jerk reaction when they hear the words "Supreme Court" to think of or talk about Roe vs Wade. There're a lot more issues which are a lot more important to this country than abortion. In my estimation abortion is pretty far down on the list of what's imoportant. You are correct with your estimation. Unfortunately, you are one of a few that feel that way. It still is a hot button topic almost 35 years past Roe v. Wade. And that is the one that most people still latch onto. The thing about Roe v. Wade, though, is the underlying tone of it...rights. It's not the death of a "child" that really makes it a hot button topic, but rights of the mother compared to rights of the unborn. How far do said rights stretch? It's such a sticky situation and a very important one. It's a slippery slope either way it's decided.

  18. We keep getting these isolated t-storm arms of Emily. And these crazy rain bands of clouds. I'm tellin' ya, growin' up in Chicago didn't prepare me for seeing hurricane remnants. Don't float away, Tex.
  19. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 02:51 PM) As far as I can tell he's somewhat to the right of where O'connor is but he's not the flaming idealouge that the media was expecting...........and hoping for. I agree that I am surprised Bush picked Roberts and can live with the decision. He has said that Roe v. Wade was wrongly decided, but recently said he abides by the law, what worries me is that he is in the position now to possibly overturn that law and it makes me nervous. I hope he listens to the arguments and not the politicos.
  20. QUOTE(upnorthsox @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 06:34 PM) The Yankees getting Dave Justice was definitely big, don't remember the yr off hand. I don't think the Marlins get in in '03 without Urbina so that was pretty big. But yea if you go over the WS teams of the last 10 yrs the surprising thing is just how few trades were made by those teams in season. That said, we still need another arm for the BP. I agree, but that isn't a "big" trade. Like getting a Mariano Rivera, Eric Gagne (if healthy), or someone like that. Eddie Guardado would be a "medium" trade in my book, but great for the Sox.
  21. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 06:34 PM) From nbc5.com: Will County Declares Drought Emergency POSTED: 10:21 am CDT July 19, 2005 UPDATED: 11:06 am CDT July 19, 2005 JOLIET, Ill. -- The drought plaguing Illinois is forcing authorities in Will County to declare an agricultural emergency. A spokeswoman for county executive Lawrence Walsh said the declaration will allow the county to receive federal and state disaster funds if they become available. Spokeswoman Tammy Reiher said more than half of the county's farmers have lost at least 40 percent of their crops so far. And she said 20 percent of farmers report that 70 percent of their crops are a loss. I've lost 20% of my lawn...does that count?
