  1. I can never tell if Hubert Davis calling McCamey "McGamey" is a play on his name or if he's serious.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 23, 2010 -> 04:24 AM) he's immune to critcism. He's basically earned that. MSU is probably like the 4th or 5th best team on the conference at this point. If they weren't able to hold on against Washington, they would be seriously questioning the NCAA tourney birth hopes.
  3. Illinois may have just played their worst half of the year. I was at the UIC game.
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 23, 2010 -> 01:16 AM) I'm telling you right now that Whitney Young would beat the UCONN womens team. Well duh. By 30 if there was a shot clock... WY usually goes 8 or 9 deep with D1 talent. I'm sure it's no different this year. That game would not even be a game. Just for reference, their 09 team had: Anthony Johnson- Purdue Chris Colvin- Iowa State Marcus Jordan- Central Florida Sam Thompson- Ohio State Stanford Brown- Lamar Ahmad Starks- Oregon State JR Reynolds- Would be playing D1 if it weren't for grades Derrick Randolph- Will be playing D1 basketball once he picks his college choice Jermaine Morgan- Will be playing D1 basketball once he picks his college choice That doesn't include the D1 talent on their lesser level teams. I think team like this, 30 points would be conservative with a shot clock.
  5. A good boys high school team would absolutely shred the UCONN women's team.
  6. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 09:07 PM) These ISU teams went to the NCAA tourney with these records (overall/conf), in the time I've been following them: 1992: 21-13 (5-9) 1995: 23-11 (6-8) Those were Big 8 seasons of course, but the relative records give you the idea here. To give another view, here are seasons where they had decent overall records (say 18 or better wins) and bad conf records but did NOT make the tourney, from the same period: 2004: 20-13 (7-9) So, looking at the past 20 years or so, of the three teams with 18+ overall wins but a losing conference record, 2 of the 3 went to the NCAA tournament. There hasn't been a team 4 games below .500 in their own conference since at least 2003. It just doesn't happen, and especially wouldn't happen to a team with who plays such a terrible non conference schedule. And 20 wins does not mean a whole lot any more at all.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 06:04 PM) 11-2 now, 2 OOC games left: @Virginia, and vs NIU. And they have 8 days off between this game they just played against a crappy team, and the game at Virginia. That's not a good combination, and I doubt they can win. Assuming they beat NIU, they go into the B12 schedule at 12-3, barring an upset of Virginia. I'll predict they go 6-10 in the B12 schedule, to go into the B12 tournament at 18-13 (6-10). That's an NIT berth most likely, but if they make some noise in the conference tourney, they could have an outside shot of going to the NCAA's. You would never go into the tournament with a 6-10 conference record no matter how well you do in your conference tourney...
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 21, 2010 -> 02:25 AM) So do you see Richardson and Richmond being 4 year players then? Because you seem to really expect their development to take place a year or so down the line if not more. What do you mean? What development does Richardson even need? He's all ready almost as good as you can expect him to be. Richmond has a long ways to go. I like him as the point forward with McCamey coming off the ball. He should have been used that way much more on Saturday. The few times he was, it seemed like Illinois scored. Worked in NY too.
  9. QUOTE (danman31 @ Dec 21, 2010 -> 02:14 AM) Wow, so to you the UIC game didn't happen? I find it interesting the range of reactions here. Some saying Illinois is a bubble team, some saying top 10-15 team. It's probably somewhere in the middle though. I don't think Illinois is a second week of the tourney team, but you never know what the draw gives. Up until Saturday, UI was one of just a few teams to score 70+ in all of their games. Then they gave UIC a game because they dipped down to 54. I'm guessing it was just a huge aberration.
  10. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 11:13 PM) A tad off-topic, but am I the only one that's starting to think the AL is no longer the more dominant league? Yes, you've got the two cash whores in NY and Boston. But that's somewhat offset by the NL cash whore that has become the Phillies. Outside of that, what's the difference between the two leagues? The NL will never score more runs due to the DH. That has nothing to do with quality of the league. Just a rule (a dumb one depending on who you talk to). The NL hasn't been within 20 wins of the AL in interleague since 2004. Until then, then yes you'll be the only one.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 11:46 PM) I agree Richardson shouldn't be used for negative recruiting, but as a one-dimensional player, I don't think he's going to ever be a great player for Illinois. We'll see next year when he has more control over the offense with McCamey gone. He's already a good defender though too.
  12. QUOTE (hitlesswonder @ Dec 19, 2010 -> 10:05 PM) If any coach needed any negative recuiting material against Illinois, they only need to look at what has happened to DJ Richardson's ability slash and drive to the hoop (which he excelled at before college), a ...Seriously? Who gives a s*** what he was in high school? He's was Big Ten FotY and looks to be the next great player at Illinois. I don't know how much negative recruiting you're going to get done there.
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 04:57 PM) Illinois is never going to lock down all top prospects in state, That's the point, they don't have to.
  14. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Dec 13, 2010 -> 01:39 AM) Deron Williams is from Texas, probably the best player in recent Illinois history. On the current team Mike Davis is from somewhere on the west coast I think and he is very important to the team's success as well. Can't solely rely on instate guys only. Mike Davis is from Virginia. He was a 2 star recruit that Illinois basically lucked into as a late signee since no other real major programs were offering him (at least without some sort of condition). This was also when Illinois' recruiting was reaching an all-time low and Davis was a huge reach, even at that time. Deron Williams is the exception to the rule of course. And no one expected him to turn out like he did. If you want evidence, just look no further than the past years year. They're basically on their best recruiting tear in the program's history and every single player was a local kid.
  15. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 13, 2010 -> 01:26 AM) Disagreed. Heck, I can't think of many times where the #1 recruits even come out of Illinois. There was Rose, though Gordon and Mayo all switched. I think you go where ever you need to to get the recruit you need. And? Illinois is not going to go into NY, NC, Texas or California and pull the top kid out. We pull the top kids out of Illinois, and you're going to do very well. More NBAers have been born in Illinois than any other state to gain some perspective. Illinois has no real in state competition for the top kids. They just have to worry about the national powers for the kids they want. That's a good position to be in, even if you do lose out on the Derrick Roses or Anthony Davises.
  16. Rays were either bought out or moved.
  17. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 12, 2010 -> 08:16 AM) Who is this Langford kid people are referring to? Nevermind, found it. I wish they'd pursue more out-of-state guys. Langford is a rare exception since he reached out to Weber initially (rather than vice versa), but Illinois should never look out of state unless it's eastern Missouri or Indiana. There's just no reason to.
  18. Does anyone know where to get Buehrlot or Don Cooper's wine? Looking for a Christmas gift.
  19. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 03:14 PM) Johnny Lujack Name the one baseball team to end a game with every player having the exact same batting average they did when the game started. The White Sox.
  20. I read a forum rumor that the Yanks are going to offer Wood 30 mil for 2 years...uhh.
  21. QUOTE (Chi Town Sox @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 06:25 PM) Jon Heyman on twitter reporting that a 7 year offer for Lee was put on the table by a "mystery" team It's the Nationals.
  22. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 06:16 PM) White Sox are very interested in Kerry Wood. f*** me.
  23. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 11:39 PM) a one man bullpen right now in Thorton Santos?
