QUOTE(redandwhite @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 10:44 PM) Red Sox and "mystery" team take over lead: http://abcnews.go.com/Sports/ESPNSports/story?id=1334519 Anyone guess who the mystery team is? Off the top of my head, I think it would be the Dodgers. They done blockbuster deals before and IIRC, they have a terrific farm system. They also have a new GM who could be looking to make a big splash early. -
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 03:24 AM) Chicagoans generally aren't outdoorsman, it's a fact. Yes it is.

Maui Predictions: 1st Round Games Michigan State over Chaminade MSU will win in a route. Can't say much more here, as I don't know much about D2 host school Chaminade. What I can say though is that Tom Izzo WILL be in an ugly Hawaiian shirt. Gonzaga over Maryland As I have stated many times be for, I love Gonzaga's team this year. They feature the nation's best player in Adam Morrison and of course one of the nation's best coaches in Mark Few. Maryland doesn't have too shabby of a coach either. The Terps are rated nationally, though I don't think I would put them there yet. They lost do it all guard Gilchrist, and I think this will hurt more than people are saying. Arizona over Kansas No one on Kansas will be able to match-up with Hassan Adams. Adams took a step backwards last year under the shadow of Salim Stoudamire and Channing Frye. Kansas, both young and expierenced, won't know what is going on as 'Zona rolls in a surprising route. Arkansas over UCONN Upset pick here. Atleast most would call it that. UCONN just has too many problems for my liking. I also don't see anyone stopping Ronnie Brewer either. Expect the Razorbacks to give them hell in the win. 2nd Round Consolation Maryland over Chaminade The Terps get a gift to the fifth place game. Chaminade again has no chance an AAC power. UCONN over Kansas Bill Self can't seem to win in this tournament either. The Jayhawks don't have the bangers to match-up with Rudy Gay and Josh Boone. I really don't expect this game to be close either. It will be one of the many bumps in the road for Kansas this year, as they are destined for the poor 7th place match-up. 2nd Round Gonzaga over Michigan State Also my pick for the national championship game this year. That just goes to show you how great this preseason tournament is. Onto the game, I think it will be very close. Michigan State didn't look very good in the first game against Hawaii, but they will eventually get their act together, hopefully starting in this game. I still like the bulldogs to win, with NBA bound J.P. Bastista leading the way Arizona over Arkansas Assuming they are matched up, Brewer and Adams is as good as a player match-up as any you will see during non-conference play. The difference, however, will be the talent outside these two. Clearly, UA has the advantage there. This could be Ivan Radenovic's big break out game. Place Games Kansas over Chaminade for 7th place Yet again, Chaminade won't have the athletes to compete with its bigger conference foe. Kansas will roll. UCONN over Maryland for 5th place Both will be suffering from the point guard situations. This game will have to be won with the better big men and without a doubt the Huskies have the advantage there. Caner-Medley is solid but still not as good as the 2 major forces down low for Connecticut. Michigan State over Arkansas for 3rd place Brewer again should provide some match-up problems, though again not sure on how much help he will get. MSU has a nice balanced attack that I don't think the Razorbacks will be able to handle. This game should be a lot of fun to watch nonetheless. Gonzaga over Arizona for the championship An awesome final. This is going to be one of the best games of the season if everything holds through. All-American Adam Morrison won't be stopped, because frankly, no one can stop him. Derek Raivio and Mustafa Shakur is going to be a terrific match-up to watch. Batista on Radonovic will be great as well. I would like to see how Batista handles it. Morrison won't be the only high NBA pick on this team. Final Standings 1. Gonzaga 2. Arizona 3. Michigan State 4. Arkansas 5. UCONN 6. Maryland 7. Kansas 8. Chaminade -

Yep, Brother Rice does have by far the best student section. They outdraw every other team, home or away. Even named the best Student section in the country last year by EA SPORTS. -

Amazing play by Jarrius Jackson to send this into OT. -
QUOTE(Felix @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 11:35 PM) By the time the season starts, we could resign Frank, trade for Thome, trade for Delgado, or any other possiblity. Talking about how it would be smart to make a trade in the middle of the season doesn't make sense at all since by that time, anything could have happened to our lineup to make that specific trade a stupid one. the point was that Carl Everett is better than anything we have now, which is nothing. Our options aren't very good for the DH role right now either. Atleast certainly not as good as you try to make them out to be.

QUOTE(Brian @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 11:12 PM) Will get to watch him vs. Waukegan this year. I hadn't seen him in person since his freshmen year. He's a bit overrated, IMO. To me he just seemed to be a product of the system. Literally every play has to have like 5 or 6 picks until he gets the ball with an open shot available. Not sure he can succeed with a different style around him. -

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 09:26 PM) Enough with the Everett jokes, they're seriously old and not funny in the least. Agreed. However, in all seriousness, it might not be a bad idea come dealine time to trade for him with our current DH situation.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 01:22 AM) Sam Houston State @ Drexel is a good one. Sam Houston is shooting 91% with 9:41 left in the first half but is only up by one. Yeah. I've been watching that rather than the crap they are showing on ESPN. -

NIT Preview and Analysis: 1st Round Match-ups Duke over Boston University Tonight we'll be able to catch our first glimpse at the 05-06 season with this match-up on ESPN. It will be the first of 73 Duke games on national tevevision this year. And yes they are all the same, Duke players very low-major and wins by 50. No surprises here. Manhatten over Seton Hall Bobby Gonzalez should have his boys ready to play against big conference foe Seton Hall. This win should come at no surprise either for the Jaspers. They are the better team, simply put. Princeton over Drexel But then again, who cares? Alabama over Miami Ohio The Crimson Tide will tear apart the boys from Miami, who will be stricken to middle of the MAC East after taking the title last year. Still though, this remains one of the best first round games for the NIT. Just don't expect it to be close. Memphis over Wisconsin-Milwaukee Although UW-M took some heavy losses, they will still give Memphis a very good game. Calipari and the Tigers have a history of playing down to lesser opponents. A victory for the Panters is certainly not out of reach. Temple over Army Chaney gets another start this year with what should be a crushing of an awful Army team. Nothing much more to see here. UCLA over New Mexico State Reggie Theus faces a tough job replacing future Hall of Famer Lou Henson. One bright spot is Elijah Ingram, former MDAA who has transferred from St. John's. In the end though, it won't be very close, as the talented, young backcourt of UCLA will prove to be too much. 2nd Rounds Duke over Manhatten Not much hope for the Jaspers going up aganist national power Duke. Bobby G should have them hang in there for a bit though. Missouri over Princeton What a pitiful regional this was. No way should one of these teams advance to New York while Alabama, Memphis, Miami and UW-Milwaukee are all stuck in the same regional. Anyway this should still be a close game. Missouri doesn't always capitalize on their possessions, something Ivy League schools have learned to capitalize on. Expect Princeton to slow the game down considerably but in the end fail to win. Alabama over Memphis Oh man, what an awesome regional final this is. Both deserve to be headed on a plane to New York, but only one can win. I'm in love with Memphis' talent this year, but for whatever reason, I just don't see them beating SEC power Alabama. Ronnie Steele is part of that awesome class of Sophmore PGs, as is Darius Washington. They will be matched-up with one another. This should be one of the best early season games, with the Crimson Tide prevailing. UCLA over Temple This should be yet another great match-up of 2 of the best PG's in the nation. Marty Collins may be a future lottery pick as he leads Temple up against Jordan Farmer, part of that aforementionted Sophmore PG class. Temple won't have the depth to go up against UCLA but it should be another great game. Semi Finals Duke over Missouri In what should be a snore of a semi-final game, Duke will destroy Queen Snyder and Missouri. The Blue Devils will put the Tigers into shame. I would be shocked if heartless Missouri even puts up a fight. NEXT. UCLA over Alabama I luuuuuuuuuuv UCLA's talent this year. Another great match-up of point-guards will be won by Farmer. Should be interesting to see how Bozeman is this year, after he missed all of last season with an injury. Micheal Fey will be the ket down-low for the Bruins. If he can make his stops, UCLA will win this game. Championship Duke over UCLA A throw back game in which maybe the 2 best programs of all-time go at it. If there is one team in the NIT who can best Duke, it is UCLA. This game will be close all the way through. In the end though, UCLA will have no answer for powerful big man Sheldon Williams.
