Can we put Javy on the DL if Contreras comes back?
-
Gosh, I hope Konerko gets it together. We really need him down the stretch run.
-
what happened to Zoomy? I can only get the online feed.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 27, 2008 -> 02:13 PM) I'm just trying to think like Ozzie. Do you really think he would go with Floyd or Danks over Contreras? El Duque had no business making the playoff roster over Bmac (it obviously worked out well). I'm almost 100% certain that one of Floyd/Danks would be moved to the bullpen. Unless something drastically changes, the four man staff would be Mark, Jose, Danks, Floyd. Javier is our fifth starter at this point and that is being generous. Contreras was essentially unproven going into the 2005 playoffs, but Ozzie played the hot hand. I have no doubt he would do the same with regards to Danks and Floyd over Vazquez.

Gameplan: knock the starter out with the game still in reach.

Let's get some runs.

Isn't there some great picture of Cliff Politte in the Negro League uniforms?

Never underestimate the badness of the Tiger's bullpen.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 06:26 PM) Still, I really think thats a steal of a deal for the Brewers. Even more so if they are considering signing him long-term because this gives them an exclusive window to negotiate with him and try to work something out. Plus, if they lose him they are getting two draft picks as compensation. So they are essentially giving up a AA stud (with lots of offensive upside) for a proven ace (easily one of the best 3 lefties in all of baseball) for either a few seasons (if they sign him) or the proven ace for a post-season run and 2 draft picks (to replace to an extent what you traded away). I'd say it was a no-brainer for the Brewers. Even more so when you factor in that LaPorta was without a position on the big league club (Braun/Fielder are both young and very good and play essentially the only two positions LaPorta could play). Those two draft picks seal this as a steal for the Brewers.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 06:20 PM) GM's just don't hold a ton of value for guys that are going to give you 15 more starts. It's a risky play. That might be true, but I think the hidden loss here is that the Indians most likely lose the "hometown discount" in an attempt to resign Sabathia. I think this is a pretty significant trade, at least symbolically. If you trade away your ace for prospects a minimum of 1-2 years from MLB, doesn't that indicate you don't expect to contend for 1-2 years?
-
Is it just me or did the Brewers pull one over on the Indians here? A pretty good AA prospect (LaPorta) and two low level prospects for an ace pitcher? Even if the Indians resign Sabathia, I think they could have gotten more in return.

Think about it this way: any game that Loaiza gets into is probably out of reach anyways. What he does isn't that important, as long as he eats innings in bad games. If he can come out as the long reliever and shut things down, that's just a bonus. It's a really great move because Masset has gradually been coming into his own. On a given day, we now have 5 relievers that we can be reasonably sure will come in and shut things down. This bullpen might actually be better than 2005's...

I'm a huge fan of Lost and "The Shape of Things to Come" was one of the most fantastic episodes in the series. I have a few thoughts about things. Ben waking up Tunisia is pretty significant. The story he gives Sayid is false 'I took Desmond's boat, the Elizabeth I and caught a plane here' was pretty clearly false. Here's my explanation (based on a spoiler from Comiccon): Some more random thoughts. Those hieroglyphics come from the native island culture (of which Richard Alpert is a member). The whole reason C.S. Lewis is on the show is to give us some insight into the island's history. I'm guessing that the three new freighter people will all be used to explain certain mysteries of the island that are remaining (Daniel is already starting to explain some of the time mysteries and Miles will explain some of the more supernatural elements to the show). By the way, did you catch the look on Miles's face when the guys were getting thrashed by Smokey? I wonder if he knows what that thing is. Anyways, back to my original point: it looks like the original island culture is somehow related to the smoke monster. Perhaps the room Ben went into was some sort of an island underworld, where he summoned the monster? The interesting the the producers said was that everything Ben gets the island to do has a price. There are specific mechanics to what goes on the island. Getting it to do something for you costs you something in return.

That's what she gets for hitting on younger men at the bars...

That was a good game. I'm glad that Danks got the ship righted. Hopefully that game against the Twins was an outlier. If it is, then this rotation is solid as hell, especially with some of the quality arms that we have in the pen.
