  1. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 05:03 PM) The cubs 3 aces are who?? I'd say Zambrano, Prior, and potentially Wood. Maddux on a very, very good day.
  2. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 05:00 PM) The only current MLB talent we might begiving up is Marte in which we could replace him with Guardado? Who are we giving up for Guardado? Doesn't Guardado's rotator cuff injury on his throwing arm concern you?
  3. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 04:44 PM) Name me 1 team that has 4 aces right now, or even after trades will have 4 aces on their staff in the American League or even the National League. The Yankees QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 04:33 PM) Which LA is that? LAD or LAA? Just wondering but I'm guessing the Angels. But still, Contreras and El Duque have been very bad and/or inconsistent lately. Schmidt = Consistency and Ace. Not this season... Look, if we can can rip off the Giants, I'm all for getting Schmidt. I just don't think that's going to happen and I don't know if it's worth giving up current major league players.
  4. I've said it before, but it bares repeating: Buehrle's productivity at this stage in his career is comparable to McDowell and even Hoyt. That said, he's even more valuable, since it seems like he could enjoy a career twice or even three times as long as those two. Buehrle seems like he could be the new Maddox.
  5. As a number of other posters have concluded along with me, the only pitcher we should trade significant prospects (such as McCarthy and Anderson) for is one that will significantly improve our World Series chances. The only one that comes close to fitting that bill is a HEALTHY Jason Schmidt. That said, it is fairly questionable if he is in fact healthy enough for a stretch run at a pennant and if can in fact contribute in a significant fashion given the current make-up of the club.
  6. QUOTE(winodj @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 01:59 PM) The Transformers movie should not be remade on the principle that no movie featuring Orson Welles should ever be remade again. I don't think it's a remake. Rather, it's a live-action movie. Not sure what generation of Transformers will be used, but hopefully it's the originals: Optimus, Bumblebee, Ironhide, Megatron, Soundwave, Starscream...
  7. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 02:04 PM) Are you talking about the GI Joe movie that was just out on DVD in the last year or so? Or an older one? I don't know if it was just out on DVD or not, but it featured Cobra Commander getting turned into a snake.
  8. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 12:50 PM) Do you want to throw this years El Duque or Conteras out in game 4 with the pressure on. El Duque is hitting 84-85 and Conteras is a mixed bag. He may throw a great game, then again he may s*** himself silly. Its too much of a risk. I'm going to make an assumption here: the Sox will win the division and make the playoffs. This is a valid assumption because no team has had a 10 game lead on its league/division prior to the all-star break or July and not won its respective league/division. For lots and lots of years, lots and lots of baseball has been played and for that to not have occurred yet is remarkable and suggests it is highly unlikely to occur in the future. Yes I know Minnesota and Cleveland and Detroit are teams that can all make a run, but barring two major injuries (i.e. a starting pitcher and an everyday player going down for the rest of the season), but the Sox have done well against them the entire season thus far. I digress, this is not what I am arguing about. Hopefully I'm not making a rush to a conclusion here, but you're telling me that we should get Schmidt if it cost us some mixture of McCarthy, Anderson, Marte, and Sweeney (definitely 2 out of those 4 and maybe 3 out of those 4). Because we have already assumed the play-offs, we will not be needing Schmidt to reach this point. Rather, you're stating that essentially we only need him for one game: game 3 or game 4. The question you need to ask yourself is this: "does Jason Schmidt give this team a significantly better shot to win a game 3 or game 4 in the playoffs (either by pitching it himself or moving down Garcia/Garland in the rotation to that game) to the point where it is worth it to concede several prospects that many foresee helping the White Sox to future division championships?" Schmidt's health thus far this season, coupled with his fairly weak vs. AL stats make me question if he will be able to upgrade our chances this season to a point where it is worth giving up the crown jewel prospect of the Sox, a good reliever, and maybe two good OF prospects.
  9. Sorry for asking this dumb question, but why do we need Schmidt or Burnett again?
  10. There was a He-man movie? I missed that one. The GI Joe movie was pretty solid, even if a little weird with the whole Cobra-la thing.

QUOTE(soxhawks @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 10:37 AM) we did good against them without vlad, and mostly without francisco rodriguez We didn't have Frank, either.

why's everybody so scared about the Angels? We did pretty well against them so far this season. I think we could take the Angels.
  13. Yeah, that Dare to be Stupid scene was pretty awesome... I remember almost crying the first time I saw that movie, they killed a ton of my favorites (like Optimus, Ironhide, and Prowl) right away. I am stoked for the new movie which is supposed to be released next summer.
  14. As a sidenote: I remember Starscream from Transformers saying this in the Transformer movie (which was awful).

QUOTE(Be Good @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 09:45 AM) Give up on Chavez, I don't want him even if he was available. Schmidt on the other hand, don't jinx it. I know it wasn't in green...but maybe replace the batteries on the old sarcasm detector?

QUOTE(rangercal @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 09:39 AM) Boston Doesn't scare you? :headshake Not once we get Jason Schmidt and Eric Chavez
  17. I'm just glad that Politte has turned into one of the best set-up men/middle relievers in MLB.
  18. I hate Bush and am leary of Jon Garland. Not sure how that affects your argument, but for every guy like Jason Schmidt that just snapped it on one year, there's guys like Esteban Loiaza that have career years and fall off the map. Qwerty was right: Garland is more successful this year because he's better at pitching inside and isn't getting rattled when guys get a hit off of him, as he did in the past. In this case though, the cause of the cause is more important than the effect or the cause. Garland is pitching great, we can all see that. That is caused by the things that we've mentioned above. The question you should be asking yourself is what is causing the causes? Is the change coming from within or without of Garland? Is it because he grew up or quit doing drugs or got a girlfriend and has settled down on the mound (internal factors)? Or is it because of AJ and Widger calling better games (external factors)? QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 10:58 AM) I used to laugh when I ehard people say this country is full of idiots. Not anymore, not after I've come to realize it's really true. Be careful, lest you become one of them...

  20. FWIW- I turned off signatures almost the day I got on this site. They can be sort of annoying and make quickly reading posts difficult. I like the avatars, though. That said, I have no problem with signatures existing, just as long as I can not see them if I so choose.
  21. oh dear God, that's hilarious...
